Taste a bounty of heirloom fruits and vegetables and learn about organic gardening and seed-saving during this fun, affordable family-friendly festival unlike any other, held on the breathtaking West Lawn of Jefferson’s Monticello.
Join us September 8-9th, for more than one hundred educational programs, hands-on workshops, garden tours, an organic, local food marketplace, and more.

Thomas Jefferson’s historic mountaintop home, Monticello, is a National Historic Landmark and the only house in the United States designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monticello is owned and operated by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc., which was founded in 1923. As a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation, the Foundation receives no ongoing federal, state, or local government funding in support of its dual mission of preservation and education.
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange (SESE) located in Central Virginia, started in 1982 in a small family garden adn a kitchen co-opted for seed processing. The kitchen garden has since expanded to numerous growing areas supplemented by a nationwide seed grower network. Now the seed company has its own office, germination testing facility, and environmentally controlled seed storage areas. SESE emphasizes seed varieties adapted to the Mid-Atlantic region, it serves gardeners throughout the United States and Canada.
Seed Savers Exchange conserves biodiversity by maintaining a collection of over 20,000 different varieties of heirloom and open-pollinated plants, varieties with the ability to regenerate themselves year after year. These seeds (and tissue cultures or other plant materials, depending on how a plant reproduces) have the power to withstand unforeseen pestilence and plant disease, climate change, and limited habitat, and to stop dinnertime boredom forever.
