BUILDING CONNECTIONS A symposium on mental health and innovations in care and cure.
Sacred Heart University, under the auspices of the College of Health Professions, College of Arts
and Sciences, Davis Henley College of Nursing, St. Vincent’s College, and Farrington College of
Education is the Lead Partner for this event.
Everyone is invited to join in the conversation about mental health, the impact mental disorders have
on our communities and how we can all be a part of the network of care. According to the National
Alliance on Mental Health, 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. live with a mental health condition, and 10 million
adults in the U.S. live with a serious mental illness. OPTIMUS Health Care is taking a bold step to
bring the conversation to light with special emphasis on the mental health of women and girls.
As an Event Sponsor, you can help raise awareness about mental health and mental disorders;
support this unique convening of healthcare professionals, educators, advocates, community
leaders and others; and strengthen the connections for improving the quality of care for those
living with mental illnesses.
Lorna Luft is a health advocate, Broadway star, and author of two books –
“Me and My Shadows” and “A Star is Born: Judy Garland and the Film that
Got Away.” She is also the daughter of the beloved legendary star, Judy
Garland. Lorna talks candidly about the challenges of mental illness, the impact
it has on women and their children and the courage it takes to seek healing.
Luft recognizes the importance of comprehensive healthcare. She’s battled
breast cancer three times and survived brain tumor surgery. Despite her own
health concerns, Lorna continues to be a dedicated philanthropist who fights
for a breast cancer cure. Lorna is also a major advocate for children’s healthcare
and generously supports charities that provide HIV/AIDS services. Lorna is a
founding board member of The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative.
