The Education Network’s Anchor/Producer, Claudia Shea, develops scripts and oversees the production each week, mentoring and featuring students in the roles of television anchors and reporters. She also recruits schools to provide video reports of current and special events at their school to be featured on the show. Showcasing the positive news around the District that is delivered by our own students that are positively impacted or recognized makes this show exciting to watch! Information about shows: Tropical Holiday Music: This is a series of (3) 30 minute programs that feature 7 Palm Beach County school choirs, bands or orchestra students performing classic holiday musical sets. These shows run every day on The Education Network from the week of Thanksgiving through the first week of the New Year. The Academic Challenge: This is an annual event taped in January that features more than a dozen schools with teams of students competing for district honors and qualifying to compete at the state level. Last year, one student made it to the national level, and won the category. These shows consists of (3) Preliminary round shows and (1) District Final show. It is a quiz show, and host Ric Blackwell reports updates after each round. Each show features 3 rounds. These students are typically looking for sponsorship to help cover cost to attend the state finals. Palm Beach County students typically score high at competitions. The Battle of the Books Competition: These shows feature final round coverage of elementary, middle and high school students. The winners receive a trophy and all receive a medal for participating. Palm Beach County has a lot of talented readers, and it takes a lot of reading to prepare for this annual event. Claudia Shea is host and moderator of this yearly event that is covered in (3) shows.
