CHA Annual Meeting

The Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) has represented hospitals and health-related member organizations for more than 90 years. From its Wallingford, Connecticut headquarters, CHA strives to advance the health of the citizens of Connecticut by representing and serving hospitals and their related healthcare organizations.

The CHA Annual Meeting, held in June, is the premier annual healthcare gathering in Connecticut, with hospital CEOs, physicians, and other key hospital and healthcare decision-makers in attendance. Each year, nearly 600 of the state’s most influential healthcare leaders gather at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Connecticut to celebrate Connecticut hospitals’ accomplishments, discuss the challenges of the future, enjoy first-rate entertainment, and network with one another.

The 91st CHA Annual Meeting will feature the Association’s annual awards, including the Healthcare Heroes Awards, the Community Service Award, the John D. Thompson Award, and the prestigious T. Stewart Hamilton Award, which recognizes an individual for contributions to Connecticut healthcare and service to CHA. The meeting also features entertainment, which this year will be a keynote address by Carl Bernstein, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist (see below).

Keynote Speaker, Carl BernsteinFew journalists in America’s history have had the impact on their era and their craft as Carl Bernstein. Mr. Bernstein has written—among other works—the definitive accounts of three of the most remarkable figures of the past half-century: Richard Nixon, Pope John Paul II, and Hillary Clinton. In the early 1970s, Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward broke the Watergate story for The Washington Post and set the standard for modern investigative reporting, for which they and The Post were awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

Mr. Bernstein’s most recent book is the national bestseller A Woman In Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham, acclaimed as “a model of political biography” by the Los Angeles Times, “balanced and convincing” by the New York Times, and chosen by Amazon.com readers as one of the 10 best books of 2007.

Since Watergate, in books, magazine articles, commentary, television reporting, and as editor of an award-winning website, Mr. Bernstein has continued to build on the theme he and Woodward first explored in the Nixon years—the use and abuse of power: political power, media power, financial power, and spiritual power. Together, they wrote two classic bestsellers: All the President’s Men (also a movie starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman), about their coverage of the Watergate story; and The Final Days, about the denouement of the Nixon presidency.

Mr. Bernstein is a political analyst for CNN, a contributing editor for Vanity Fair Magazine, and a former Washington Bureau Chief and correspondent for ABC News.
