3 THE NATIONAL NURSING FORUM 2019
Bringing together nurses from across the country, the National Nursing Forum is our annual signature event that informs and inspires delegates through an exceptional line up of prominent speakers, networking opportunities and entertainment.
A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
In 2018 ACN welcomed almost 600 attendees to our annual National Nursing Forum (NNF) at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Gold Coast. The Forum was a tremendous success with a record-number of delegates from across the country and profession.
The program informed and inspired delegates through an impressive line-up of keynote speeches, concurrent sessions and masterclasses delivered by leaders in nursing, health and government. Through our theme, Diversity and Difference, a variety of thought-provoking and inspiring presentations left delegates armed with ideas and information to take back to their professional and personal lives.
From our Speed Leading and Networking Session to our Gala Dinner, there were numerous networking opportunities available throughout the event. Nurses had the chance to form meaningful connections and valuable relationships with colleagues working across all settings and levels of the health care system. The energy, excitement and passion for our profession and organisation was palpable at the National Nursing Forum in 2018.

5 THE NATIONAL NURSING FORUM 2019
Thanks to our 2018 Partners and Sponsors who provided 14 lucky delegates with a free registration to the National Nursing Forum.
SOME OF OUR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS SAID... Meagan Bransgrove MACNIn August, at the National Nursing Forum
I was inspired. Once again the buzz
of nurses engaged me back into this
amazing profession. Heading to the History
Conference before the main event set me up
to think about where we have been and the
NNF showed me where we are going. There
are some exciting times ahead, some scary
times too, but the breadth and scale of our
reach as a profession grows bigger every
day and I’m personally loving where it is
leading me!
Christine Bernasconi MACNI’ll use any excuse to justify attending
ACN’s NNF; this year, it was the theme
of ‘diversity and difference’ that drew me
in. I was reaching the halfway point of my
graduate nursing program, and the many
ways in which I felt ‘different’ had been at the
forefront of my mind. Taking a few days off
for the conference gave me an opportunity
to pause and reflect on my differences,
and consider how they could be seen as
strengths, rather than weaknesses. The
inspiring collection of speakers reminded me
that the world of nursing bursts at the seams
with different opportunities. It gave me the
confidence to be patient throughout this
transitional period of my grad year, knowing
that there will come a time (and possibly
place) where my ‘differences’ can shine.
David Carpenter MACNParticipating in the 2018 National Nursing
Forum has reminded me that as nurses
across Australia we have influence at multiple
levels, leveraging our numbers, presence,
knowledge, judgement and kindness, and
the respect we have earned as a profession.
We all make a difference individually in our
own practice context, but together we can
and do achieve even more to benefit our
communities and wider society.
Best quote: “You can’t change an experience
but you can change the meaning and
therefore the reality.” Carren Smith, Closing
Session Keynote Speaker
Alysha Toune MACNIt was inspirational to be around so many
like-minded, brilliant and revolutionary
thinkers of our profession, all in one place
at the same time. With all the great ideas
being presented, I could have powered a
small country off the neurons firing in my
brain! I have now got an interest in research
that I had never had before. Thank you so
much ACN!
Aaron Alejandro MACNThe NNF 2018 is a firm commitment to
the nursing profession in Australia. A
place where resilient nurses converge to
discuss emerging local and global nursing
issues. A venue that upholds leadership
and values our contribution to the society.
A time to connect with nurses from all walks
of their career. After all, we are diverse
but committed to one goal of making a
difference.
Jade Bonser MACNThe NNF 2018 exceeded my expectations
from discovery, networking and professional
development. Attending the sessions, visiting
with colleagues and interacting with the
exhibitors was eye opening. The conference
was full of an inspiring and diverse array of
presentations from all aspects of Nursing.
This was a conference which instilled my
pride to call myself a nurse.
Marli Millas MACNThe 2018 NNF has been a mixture of
what I expected, blended perfectly with
inspiration from a surprising source, with the
theme of difference and diversity. Nursing
as a profession is quite diverse and has
opportunities to vary your career and these
were highlighted:
• Change focus if you choose or your
lifestyle changes,
• Specialise if you choose and become an
expert in your field or,
• As I have learnt through the forum, branch
out as an EntrepreNurse.
We should celebrate the diversity
amongst ourselves as we all have different
backgrounds, different areas of interest,
and different career pathways. We may be
culturally or socially different, but that is
what we need to embrace, because these
are the differences also demonstrated in
those we care for. Our diversity provides us
with strength.
Leeanne Schmidt FACNThe 2018 NNF was like three whole days of
peer supervision – restorative, energising
and action!
My key take away messages are:
• We all share sameness for health being a
fundamental human right, regardless of
our diversity and difference
• Take all opportunities to challenge our
practice lens
• Continually advocate to reduce inequity
• Demonstrate kindness and self-care; role
model these qualities
• At the heart of every leader is generosity,
validation and self-esteem – it is an
inside job.
6 THE NATIONAL NURSING FORUM 2019
MARKETING YOUR PARTICIPATION
The National Nursing Forum is the cornerstone annual event for ACN. As such we invest significant time, resources and marketing to ensure the Forum is widely promoted not only to our members, but to the wider community of health professionals across Australia.
Some of the avenues we use are:
EMAIL BLASTS: regular email blasts promoting program updates, key dates, featured speakers and our sponsors and exhibitors. Over 10,000 member subscribers + blasts to our nursing students.
ACN WEBSITE: this will be the primary information point for everything NNF related. The website will be regularly updated with the latest developments. With over 190,000 website views per month on average, your company will be seen by the industry!
SOCIAL MEDIA: via our Facebook (over 32,000 followers), Twitter (over 3,000 followers), LinkedIn page (over 5,000 followers) and Instagram (over 1,900 followers) which promote interaction and discussion amongst delegates and stakeholders.
ADVERTISEMENTS: including postcards and advertisements to be used at ACN events and publications to stimulate interest and provide key information.
ONSITE SIGNAGE: logo acknowledgement at high traffic areas such as registration desk, plenary room screens and directional signage points.
FORUM PROGRAM: distributed to all NNF delegates upon registration and used as a reference point for planning session attendance and a guide to exploring the exhibition.
NNF APP: new for this year, the Event App will be available to all registered delegates. A highly valuable onsite tool, the App will be actively used by delegates who have the option to customise their own Forum program, view speakers deatils, read details information about individual sessions, and opt-in for peer to peer contact to facilitate networking onsite.
SESSION SLIDES: reinforcing your commitment and support to all delegates during sessions.
