Message from the President
Happy November, Everybody! Last month when I wrote we were anticipating
our Ghosts and Legends Tour! Well, we did it! Feedback from our guests has
been very positive. The weather was absolutely gorgeous through Friday of the
tour week. We were able to show off Carolina blue skies and warmer than normal
temps. Thanks to David and everyone in the Old Salem Chapter who helped to
make our tour a success. Brenda and I really enjoyed taking part, seeing old
acquaintances and making new friends, too.
I enjoyed the outing on November 10th
. Wow, what a good crowd and
excellent weather. Thanks, Gurney, for arranging for us to have a great day.
I hope that those of you who haven’t renewed your memberships yet will do so
as soon as possible. The Old Salem Chapter is very active and we need each and
every one of you. I am looking forward to 2013 and hope that you will join us for
another year of fun activities.
Next week we will celebrate Thanksgiving. I hope that each of you will spend
time with your families and rejoice in giving thanks. Brenda and I are thankful for
many things, including the friendships we have made in the Old Salem Chapter.
Our “thankful” list is long and it seems to get longer as time goes on.
Please join us for our next regular club meeting on November 20th
at the
Olympic Restaurant. We will eat at 6:00 and begin our meeting promptly at 7:00.
Hope to see you there!

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH The most drastically act that has ever been perpetrated on the American people in the history of this country probably took place on Sept. 13, 2012. You saw it in the national news, and everyone heard what Mr. Bernanke said, but very few realize the significance of what he was talking about when he said that the Federal Reserve, as of that day, would begin purchasing $40 billion in mortgage backed securities and Treasuries each month, indefinitely, from that point on. This $40 billion is in mortgages, whether they be toxic or non-toxic. Let me then put it in simple terms... it's the mortgage on your house. If your house it mortgaged, then the Federal Reserve could have possibly purchased the mortgage in September, or October, and every month... Where is the Federal Reserve going to get $40 billion every month? Indefinitely? They are going to print money out of thin air to purchase a home, a shopping center, any property held as security for the loan. The bottom line of this program: The banks, and those who control these banks in the Federal Reserve, will control every piece of mortgaged real estate in the U.S. before it is over. ― Pastor Lindsey Williams, Oct. 30, 2012
AACA Dues for 2013 2013 will be here before you know it and the Deadline for AACA Dues for 2013 is Dec. 31st. Make your checks payable to “AACA Old Salem Chapter” and the paperwork will be taken care for you, you’ll only have to write one check, and your name will be put in the pot for a free membership for the year at the January monthly meeting!

Our Last 2012 Downtown Kernersville Cruise-In Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Reporter
Saturday, October 13th
, was our last Downtown Kernersville Cruise-In for the season and WHAT A
GREAT ONE IT WAS! Mother Nature finally cooperated and gave us gorgeous sunny skies! After having
rained on the three previous Cruise-Ins, this was certainly a welcome change!
And because of that, we had a wonderful turnout of beautiful classic cars … 150+! They stretched from
the railroad all the way down South Main past the Harmon House …
what a sight it was! They all looked right at home! Just great! Our
friend Glen Anderson DJ’d the Oldies for us, too, on South Main, which
brought it all together! THANK
YOU, GLEN!
Our Honorary Member and
good friend Danny “Elvis”
Crouse was also there on North
Main to entertain our “troops,”
making it an even better grand
finale for our Old Salem Chapter! Danny never disappoints and
“Elvis” did pretty good, too! THANK YOU, DANNY!
We also want THANK OUR OSC BAKERS AND OTHER
VOLUNTEERS for helping us this year … we certainly could not have done it without the help of all of you
… A BIG THANK YOU!
We look forward to our 2013 Cruise-In season being bigger and better … and hopefully … with better
weather!
The NC Region Fall Meet at Spencer Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Reporter
Bright and early Saturday morning, October 20th
, some of us (OSC) met and drove together to the
AACA NC Region Fall Meet at the Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC, and such a gorgeous fall day it
was. At our last OSC meeting, it was announced that we were going to treat this Fall Meet like one of our
monthly Outings and encouraged all to attend even if they didn’t have a car to show, so we’d hoped for good
representation from our Chapter … and … we were pleasantly surprised, as I think they were, too. And … we
also had our Chapter represented in the judging arena: Gerri Dee and Bob Crummett, Hope Peddle (in photo to
right), and Ralph Proscia were judges on the show field, as well.
For future reference, these Meets are not just for the pristine show
cars but also for those that can
“be driven and enjoyed,” shall we
say. These are the cars that
qualify for the HPOF Class …
Historical Preservation of
Original Features … “originals”
… with no restoration work done
to them. Another class that is
available is the DPC Class … Driver Participation Class … and that is
for a car that is a “driver” and may have some minor modifications
done to them but still look much like the original parts (this is the class
that we registered our ’55 Chevy in).
4
The Transportation Museum is a really cool place to have this Meet. Not only are the participating cars
absolutely beautiful, but to be able to go into this unique museum and take in all that is displayed, is quite
special (but ‘ya need your walking shoes on … lots of walking). Displays include not only trains and cars, but
all modes of transportation. There was also a running train that was available for rides, too.
After all the judging was done and evaluations made, the awards were given out mid afternoon. Those in
our Chapter that brought their cars to the show field all got awards: Allen Martin, Ralph Proscia, Jason Ford,
Gerri Dee & Bob Crummett, Leigh & Mark Bodenheimer, and us, the Ronchettis. It was a fun day!
Don’t discount these AACA “Meets” (shows) in the future. Try to attend at least one next year so you can
experience another side of your AACA OSC member benefits. You may just enjoy it!
“Sock Hop” at Arbor Ridge Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Reporter
The very next day after the Fall Meet in Spencer, on Sunday, October 21, was another fun event … the
“Sock Hop” at Arbor Ridge Retirement Community in Kernersville. Our club had a personal invitation to
attend so we absolutely could not disappoint them. These are some of
our favorite people and they always treat us so well. It was another
gorgeous fall day and our Old Salem Chapter came out in bunches …
THANK YOU ALL SOO MUCH!
With the theme being the ‘50s / ‘60s, Arbor Ridge had it goin’ on
with everything decorated as such … and … in costume. There were
“Soda Jerks” and “Pink Ladies”
and the “Fonz” look for the
guys. We saw lots of ponytails
and “beehive” hairdos, neck
scarves, and saddle shoes. Of course, there were hot dogs, Moon Pies,
and RC Colas, and we were even treated to “malted milk shakes” …
yum! Then, if you went inside, their favorite “Elvis” was in costume
and entertaining the residents … “You Ain’t Nothing But A Hound
Dog” ♪ ♫ !
It was a really fun afternoon for both the residents and us!
THANK YOU ARBOR RIDGE AND TO ALL OUR OSC MEMBERS THAT CAME OUT “TO DANCE!”
AACA NC Region “Ghosts and Legends” Tour Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Reporter
Well, folks, we pulled it off … yeah! After many months of planning and preparation, our Old Salem
Chapter finally hosted our first ever AACA Tour on October 24-27 … we should all be very proud of
ourselves! CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE FOR A JOB
WELL DONE!
I had numerous jobs before and during the Tour, so I was not
able to personally go on the Tour, only attending a few stops here
and there, but I will try to fill you in the best I can as to how things
played out.
The Hawthorne Inn in Winston-Salem was our host hotel. We
used this location as our “hub” to start and stop our days’ travels
and we also had a Hospitality Suite set up for everyone to register
as they arrived and then to gather later in the day for some social
interaction with everyone. Also in there, our Hostess Committee
5
provided drinks and munchies, along with Clarence Lambe’s popcorn machine. Everyone knew when we were
using that because it always set off the fire alarm in the room ☺… heehee!
We were also fortunate to have some donations from our tour stops and others to use as raffle items. These
included beautiful prints from Bob Timberlake, Körner’s Folly, and
the Harmon House, and a framed print with matching Christmas
ornament from Dempsey’s Place. We also had gift baskets from the
Mt. Airy Visitor Center, the Winston-Salem Visitor Center, the
Kernersville Chamber of Commerce, a wine basket, a “car” basket,
and Reynolda House also donated two large poster prints. These were
all displayed in our Hospitality Suite so tickets could be bought
anytime during the tour.
We had 40 cars and 91 people registered for the tour; ten came
from New Jersey, and
nine from Tennessee. We
also had one couple come from NY, Carol and Donald Conklin,
and that was the oldest car on our tour, a 1919 Ford Touring car. It
was trailered, of course, to get here, but it ran our whole route
without incident, even going up and down Pilot Mountain without
a hitch! Also, our National Board Member, Joanna Cooper who
flew in from Oklahoma, was pretty much their “constant
companion,” just loved riding in that old car!
We also had a family from Florida, Judy and Jim Briley with
their two grandchildren, who drove
their 1958 Pontiac Convertible, and unfortunately, they had a serious
transmission breakdown the first day so they wound up “hitching” rides during
the rest of the tour and because of that, the grandchildren also loved being
passengers in that 1919 Touring car, too. It was certainly an unfortunate
situation for the Briley’s but they wound up making lots more friends as a result
and enjoyed the tour from another perspective.
And … we had a cute little dog on the tour, “Lucy” Finlay, and we made up
her own nametag, too. She was a good little girl and everyone enjoyed seeing
her.
Wednesday, Day 1:
This was our “Early Bird” Tour day. The first stop on this day was to drive to Greensboro to see the
wonderful private car collection of Jim Nagel’s, housed in beautifully built garages that look like small houses,
thus, he calls it his “village.”
From there, was a drive to Kernersville to Körner’s Folly for a tour of the
“Strangest House in the World.” To make it a little more special our members,
Hope Peddle and Dick Strohmeier, dressed in period costume as the Körner’s
and spoke a little about the house as people arrived. I was not able to see this,
but saw some video and they both did a FANTASTIC JOB, very realistic!
THANK YOU, HOPE AND DICK!
Whenever our guests chose, they ate lunch in Kernersville before departing
for a cross-country drive to the Winston Cup Museum in Winston-Salem.
Housed here were NASCAR greats’ cars and memorabilia from the 33 years that
R. J. Reynolds sponsored the races. Then it was back to the hotel for the
Opening Reception that started at 5:30 pm.
6
Our Opening Reception was very nice … the Hawthorne Inn did a
wonderful job with the set-up and the food. This was our first “gathering of the
troops” after their arrival so we needed to make a good impression … and it all
worked out beautifully. After dinner, Tour Chairman David Hawks got up and
walked everyone through the week’s activities and then to conclude the
evening, our own Duke Marley came out dressed in costume as “Marley’s
Ghost” … really cool … and Hope Peddle also came out in her Körner’s Folly
costume. They really made a hit with everyone … it was great! Until then,
most of the tour guests did not realize that Hope (they saw her previously at
Registration/Check-In) was the one that was at the Folly!
Thursday, Day 2:
It was an early morning for everyone, having to leave the hotel by 7:30 am
to drive to Bowman Gray Stadium for a
quick, one lap around the track, and then
a non-stop exit. From there, they traveled to the early 1930’s Shell
Station on Sprague Street in Winston-Salem to have their photo taken
in front of it for a keepsake later. After exiting there, it was on to the
town of Welcome to the Richard Childress Racing Complex.
Upon arrival at RCR, there was a “Coffee Break” set up with coffee and Krispy Kremes … yum! Small
groups then began loading onto shuttle buses to take them to either
the RCR Shops at the Main Building or to the Engine Shop in the
rear of the complex. After all was said and done, everyone got to see
both areas and then at 11:30 am, a BBQ lunch was served on the
second floor of the main building, where we also arranged to have
two of our OSC members’ cars displayed. Bob Coker had his
Motorama 1954 Buick Landau show car displayed, as did our
Honorary Member Dick Bear, with his “McBearen” racecar that he
built. Also, during that time, Judy Childress, wife of Richard, spoke
about “her life as Richard Childress’ wife” … very interesting.
After lunch, our guests had several options to choose from while
there. Immediately next to the RCR Main Building was Rod Crafters Restoration Shop that they could visit
and see some really cool work being done, and of course, the RCR Museum was also available to visit. Our
member Jimmy Hailey arranged all the details for this visit, and he did a remarkable job, but sadly, he was not
able to even be there due to surgery scheduled a few days before. WAY TO GO, JIMMY … GOOD JOB!
After all that was done, on the way out of RCR, another shop
that was anxious to see us was Dempsey’s Place. This shop is artist
Dempsey Essick’s Gallery and also a Specialty Shop, mostly for the
ladies’ likings, and husbands looking for presents for their wife.
From Welcome, the next stop was the famous artist Bob
Timberlake’s Gallery in
Lexington. Not only is he a
very well known artist, but he
also has a line of beautiful
home furnishings. Mr.
Timberlake was not available
for some of our earlier arrivals but when John and I got there, we were
fortunate to arrive just shortly before he did and were able to talk and get
a picture with him.
7
From here, it was back to Winston and into the Hospitality Suite. Having this room worked out really great
… it was a good gathering place for all to come after the day’s events and it was just abuzz with excitement.
For that evening, dinner was on-their-own.
Friday, Day 3:
Another early morning for everyone as this was our longest travel day, 112 miles. The first stop of the day
was on the summit of Pilot Mountain for a “Coffee Break” … coffee and Krispy Kremes, again … yum! As I
mentioned earlier, that 1919 Touring Car made it up and down with no problem … amazing. The drivers were
given an option on parking their car at the Ranger’s Station at the bottom and riding with someone else if they
felt uncomfortable about driving their car up and down the mountain.
After Pilot Mountain, Mt. Airy was the next destination, traveling the scenic back country roads. Upon
arrival, “Barney Fife” and “Otis” greeted them at Wally’s Service
Station and then had their car’s picture taken in front of the “Mayberry
Courthouse.” It was a little slow getting things set up and started but it
was a real hoot during the shoot. “Barney” and “Otis” are a real
comedy team!
After leaving there, the driving directions took them past Andy
Griffith’s Homeplace and then to the Andy Griffith Museum. From
there, they went to Downtown Mt. Airy and then parallel parked on the
street stretching them out about four blocks! They were on their own
in Mt. Airy to shop, eat, etc. For those that signed up ahead of time,
there was a guided 30-minute “Ghost Walks” scheduled in the afternoon. Another attraction in Mt. Airy that
they could see before they left was D & D Automobilia. This is a small husband and wife business in their
home where they re-make old steering wheels, and mold lenses and knobs for antique and classic vehicles.
Needing to leave Mt. Airy by 3:30 pm, the next and final stop of the day was for dinner at The Depot at
Cody Creek in Dobson. We had to schedule dinner early so we could get everyone back to the hotel before
dark since a lot of these old cars don’t have the brightest headlights around and others possibly having
problems driving at night.
Upon arrival at The Depot, you drive through a covered bridge and then
to the right is a neat little General Store. The premises look like you’ve
stepped back in time seeing an old timey chapel and a BIG log home type
restaurant. Our Touring Group used the new banquet hall that had just
been completed this past summer. It was very impressive, along with the
wonderful food.
Saturday, Day 4:
This was our shortest driving day … only 8 miles. It started with a visit
to Old Salem and all the special buildings and history it has to offer. A Moravian style lunch was then served
in the Single Brothers Workshop complete with a beautiful little Moravian star given to everyone as they left.
Our member John Fowle made all the arrangements for this visit to Old Salem and everything went off without
a hitch … WONDERFUL JOB, JOHN!
From there, our people went to Reynolda House and Gardens in Winston-Salem where they were able to
park in the grass in front of the house, which was also very eye-catching for any other Reynolda House
visitors. Due to the size of our group, two smaller groups needed to be
used so while one group toured the house, the other went into the gardens
and then vice versa.
Sooo … that was the end of our touring … the only thing left now
was the Closing Banquet. The doors were to open at 6:00 pm for that,
but people started arriving way before and then by 6:30, “it was
showtime.” Our friend Danny Crouse was already there overseeing the
background music and everything was in place.
The Hawthorne Inn along with our hostess committee, again, did a
8
great job setting everything up … the room looked great! Our meal was very good, given a choice of Grilled
Salmon and a Triple Medallion, which consisted of pork/beef/chicken.
After the meal, Tour Chairman David Hawks took the podium … announcements and introductions were
made. Joanna Cooper, our National Board Member and Membership VP said a few words; Jeff Oaks, our NC
Region President spoke; and our Chapter President Roger Hockaday spoke and “clowned around.” (‘ya had to
be there). Awards and winners of the raffle items were presented, and then the drawing for door prizes
finished that segment of the evening.
Then it was time … “Elvis” was in the building and closed us out with a bang! The “Ghosts and Legends”
Tour is now one for the history books.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND CONTRIBUTIONS!
“Fun in the Sun” Cruise to North Myrtle Beach Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Reporter
Wow! Where do I begin? What a fun time we all had participating in this! Bright and early on Thursday,
November 1, eleven of our OSC members … Leigh & Mark Bodenheimer, Bettie & Dale Moody, Benny &
Ralph Proscia, Judy Colley, Jason Ford, Dick Strohmeier, and John & I … met at a rest area on Hwy. 220 just
past Asheboro joining 100 +/- other classics to get ready for our Cruise to North Myrtle Beach! What a site to
behold in that rest area!
This trip was planned and organized by two super people, Carol and “Uncle” Benny Huff, Cruis’n the
Streets Productions www.cruisnthestreets.com … and … with a lot of help from their friends! This was the
second annual event this year, even bigger and better than last year when we had about 77 cars; this year there
were 130 +/- … wow! GREAT JOB, GUYS!
After leaving the rest area, our first rest stop was in Rockingham, then from there our sites were set on
Bennettsville, SC, where they were expecting us for lunch. Needless to say, we filled up a few parking lots in
the downtown area as we drove in. They were definitely expecting our caravan and prepared a wonderful hot
lunch for us upon our arrival. We were invited to wander
their quaint little town while there. We also experienced a
“Cruise-In” in the parking lot complete with the “Oldies”
playing before our departure. Next stop: North Myrtle
Beach!
What a nice drive and so much fun to be in the company
of that many old cars out on the road! Onlookers really
enjoyed it, too, some even pulling over to the side of the
road to let us pass as if it was a funeral procession … very
funny!
Our destination had been reached … yeah! Now, it was time to get us all parked and checked in at the
Ocean Drive Beach and Golf Resort which was a major process given the numbers that we were …but it all
went smoothly … just not quickly … but that was okay. Once inside, we picked up our Goody Bags to find
not only sweatshirts for each of us, but also t-shirts, and an “Oldies” CD and a few other goodies … wow!
After getting settled in, we had a hot dog / hamburger supper with all the fixins which was then followed
by an evening of fun at the Beach Club in the hotel with music, dancing, and “entertainment” by the “Village
People” … that was a hoot … just ask Dick Strohmeier … he wore himself out doing his “old people version”
of the “YMCA!” Very funny! Door prizes were also handed out and even included a Hayes Jewelers diamond
dinner ring … but of course, none of us were that lucky to win it. We had a blast!
Friday morning, some people got up very early to move their cars to Fat Harold’s Beach Club parking lot
for good parking spaces for the day. Most of us decided to stay parked where we were; we were still within
close proximity of where all the “action” was going to be so that’s where our cars stayed. Games were set up
for all to enjoy ... there was corn hole, lifter toss, and fan belt toss … and a Poker Walk to keep us entertained,
along with good music, beautiful cars, and good company … all with GREAT weather! We were lucky on the
9
first day of games; John won the lifter toss and got a nice “Fun in the Sun Cruise to the Beach” t-shirt!
Okaay … now it was time for dinner and we all decided to go to Flynn’s Irish Tavern, a short walk up the
street. Their Irish Stew was just great and then topped it off with
some Irish Coffee! Mmm … good! And … it was really nice to
share it all with friends! Now it was time to waddle out of there … it
was a good thing we had to walk back to the hotel … needed to work
off some of that dinner … and it was a lovely night for a stroll. We
decided to go to the “Ronchetti’s Hospitality Suite” and continue our
“conversations” there … good wine, uh huh!
Saturday morning was another beautiful day and once again, the
early birds were out moving
their cars; this time we could
put them in the street since it
was officially blocked off for the day’s Cruise-In. The games were
set up, the music started playing, and everyone took their places …
time for another day of fun! We did hit a bit of a snag though … our
’55 Chevy got “keyed”
during the night and we
noticed it shortly after we
moved it on the street …
darn! But, fortunately, we
have Hagerty Insurance and all it took was one phone call advising
us to get a police report on it before we left.
John called the police and two officers arrived quickly after the
call, but said another one was on the way that would take the report.
Well, wasn’t John lucky?! A lovely female officer took the report
and happily “frisked him down” (after we told her about Roger
Hockaday in Mt. Airy) … and John loved every minute of it … heehee! (See Roger, you aren’t the only one
that got frisked down by an “officer.”) To fill you all in … during our tour, we got “Barney” in Mt. Airy to
frisk Roger down as a joke … see picture.
The afternoon was a lot of fun; it actually got pretty hot in the
sun! John played some more games and we did the Poker Walk
again, as we did the day before. This is like a Poker Run if any of
you are familiar with that, but this was a shortened, condensed
version of that. We each got a sheet with playing cards marked on
it, then we walked to the specified stores and drew a card at each
store, marking it on the sheet. The objective is to get the best Poker
hand to win … we didn’t … but it was fun! At the end of the day,
the winners were drawn for all the games and … guess what? John
won again for the lifter toss and this time he got a beautiful hand painted wooden duck … but … we couldn’t
figure out how that related to throwing lifters into an old engine … LOL … but anyway, it was nice.
Dinner this night was seafood at Duffy’s … yeah! And when we walked in, who did we see? Our favorite
bartender from the night of our “YMCA” fun … what a hoot ... THAT really made our evening even more fun!
The food was great … and we were full … decided to go back to our room for some liquid refreshments and
wound up spending the rest of the evening chatting and having a great time with great people!
Sunday morning was time to say our goodbyes to “Uncle” Benny & Carol, Dominic & Tommy,
photographers. Tommy took a group picture of all of us in the parking lot before we left … anxious to see it.
On our way out, we all stopped at “Stacks” for a group breakfast and then we went our separate ways … our
OSC buddies back to NC and John and I had a long drive ahead of us to New Jersey to get our little Muffie
from John’s sister who was dog sitting for us while we were doing our busy October “stuff.”
We ALL had a GREAT time … y’all come with us next November!

and we hope you’ll be able to reduce the quantity of your treatments until you’re doing great without any.
Pat has been having some back issues on and off and we hope they go away and stay away.
Please keep Jimmy and Pat Hailey on your prayer list. Jimmy had surgery on Monday October 21st right
before the Tour so doctor’s orders and a lot of pain kept them from being with us on the tour. After healing
from that, he had to go back in the hospital Nov. 11th
for a couple of days and some more test. His doctors
are deciding the best plan for him which may be another surgery. We know Pat is taking good care of you
and we hope you’re as good as new in the near future.
Please keep Fran Powers (and Richie) on your prayer list. Fran is doing as well as can be expected and
she still has a great attitude even though she tires easily. Richie is doing a wonderful job taking care of her
and she is doing a great job taking care of him.
Please keep Gerri Dee Crummett (and Bob) on your prayer list. Gerri Dee had the second surgery on her
hand last month and it is still healing. She also had the flu the week of the Tour which kept her from
participating in it as she had planned. We pray that you’ll have good use of both hands again real soon!
Please include Frank Harris to your prayer list. Frank has been having some issues with his back but he
endured and helped coordinate several events with the Tour. Frank has also helped Jimmy and Pat Hailey
with their transportation during Jimmy’s down time. We thank you for your help with the Ghosts and
Legends tour as well as your help with Jimmy and Pat, and we hope your back heals soon.
Thanks to Clarence Lambe (and Imogene) for allowing the Tour Committee to use their garage at the
Harmon House for our meetings. And thanks for the use of your popcorn machine (and the popcorn) for
the Hospitality Suite during the Tour. Our touring guests really enjoyed that!

Ramblings from David
After two plus years of planning and preparation, The “Ghosts and Legends” Tour has come and gone.
The lower than anticipated registrations we received created some doubts by some, but after a few
“adjustments”, it really made for a better tour. That can be attested by all the great comments that we received
from those who did participate. We really had some wonderful folks visiting with us for the better part of a
week and those of you who didn’t participate in the tour really did miss out on a lot of fun, some great tour
stops, and an opportunity to meet all of our wonderful touring friends. Words just can’t describe the
experience of participating in an AACA tour and being able to share some of our own local history and places
of interest with our fellow AACA members by hosting a tour is the pinnacle of AACA touring. Being on both
sides of touring does add a new perspective and a deep respect for those who have hosted previous tours and
for those who invite us to their future tours.
As a service to our touring guest, and others who are interested in our “Ghosts and Legends” Tour, we had
an official professional Tour Photographer who took approximately 2,600 photos during the tour. He is
producing a “DVD set” that is available for $15 (plus $2 s&h) and includes a DVD video with background
music, plus another DVD with photos in jpg format. The video DVD is divided into several chapters, to group
each day’s tour stops and attractions. It can be played and watched on your TV. The second DVD contains
photos in jpg format so you can view and print them on your computer or take them to almost any drugstore or
location that has a photo processor to have any or all printed as you desire. An order form is included on the
last page of this newsletter or you can request one directly from the photographer/producer, Lloyd
Montgomery, by calling: (276)733-9783 or sending an e-mail to: [email protected], or you can
request an order form from John or Ruth Ann Ronchetti or from David or Jo Ann Hawks.
Our official “Ghosts and Legends” Tour Book is also available for $15. It includes a 1-1/2 inch binder
with 8 dividers, and is full of information about the area and the stops and attractions for each day of the tour.
The dividers separate the General Information, Tour Information, each day’s Tour Route, a Roster and our
Tour Sponsors pages. The Tour Book should be interesting for anyone living in this area as well as those of us
who love to take the scenic routes and enjoy the drive.
Now that the Tour is over and the cruise-ins, shows/meets are winding down, you would think that the Old
Salem Chapter would be slowing down somewhat but when one “season” ends, another is getting started.
When we see Thanksgiving right around the corner, we know Christmas isn’t far behind and that is the start of
Christmas parades, our Christmas Dinner/Party, and lots of decorating, shopping, and get-togethers with family
and friends. Next thing we know we’ll be starting the cycle again with another new year.
The Old Salem Chapter has really grown since Jo Ann and I first started editing Spinning Wheels. Our
first issue of Spinning Wheels was in January 2002. It was only a couple of pages then but it still included
some of the same things that are a part of this November 2012 issue. Communication is the lifeline of any
organization and the newsletter is the best form of periodic communication. Yes we have telephones, cell
phones, smart phones, I-pads, facebook, tweeters, and other means of communication, but they are only the
“means of transmitting information” and without compiled information/data to transmit, they would be
virtually useless.
A newsletter helps bond people together by keeping everyone up-to-date with what has happened, what is
happening, and what will be happening. It keeps members updated about other members so people get to
know each other better. Also a newsletter is a good tool for attracting new members by letting others know
what activities our organization is doing and how much fun they could have if they were a part of it.
It’s been fun and rewarding to be your Spinning Wheels editor as you are the incentive for publishing it.
After 12 years, it’s time for Jo Ann and me to turn it over someone else so this will be our last issue. John
Ronchetti has volunteered to be your new editor and I’m sure he will do a great job. I, for one, am looking
forward to seeing what John has in mind and how he will make it better than ever. I know Ruth Ann will
continue with her great articles and since she isn’t too far away from John, they should be a perfect
combination for editing future issues of Spinning Wheels. Don’t be surprised if you see an occasional article
from me. We may not be the editors but it’s OK for any of us to submit articles!
