Speech Recognition and Digital DictationPathSpeech SR is an advanced digital dictation and speech recognition solution developed in response to pathology’s increasing demand for quality, efficiency and turnaround time improvements. It supports the delivery of digital pathology in line with the principles of interoperable IT connectivity, essential for the drive for greater efficiency highlighted in Lord Carter’s report and the QIPP agenda. Streamlining the dictation process with seamless integration and traceability, PathSpeech SR allows the user to dictate directly into with the CliniSys LIMS.
PathSpeech SR creates the ideal dictation and speech processing solution for the pathology environment employing a comprehensive medical dictionary to rapidly understand and handle all pathology terms, maximising recognition and speeding up data entry.
Facilitating the Adoption of Optimised and Modern WorkflowsCustomers currently using analogue dictation methods will be familiar with the inherent challenges and limitations experienced. PathSpeech SR, as it allows dictation directly into the LIMS, also supports network deployments where work is processed over multiple locations and geographical boundaries. PathSpeech SR utilises the inherent security within the LIMS and provides the essential access and backup features absent within analogue workflows.
PathSpeech SR is a truly scalable and networkable solution supporting clinicians and secretarial teams working at separate and remote locations. Being a departmental and/or Trust wide solution, PathSpeech SR is supportive of the evolving workflows seen as a result of the increasing prevalence for multisite pathology services.
CliniSys fully understands that workflows and working practices differ from customer to customer. To support our customers, PathSpeech SR has been developed to be extremely flexible and highly configurable to individual needs.
Improved Performance & Efficiencies PathSpeech SR is seen to improve patient safety by eliminating the risk of transcription errors currently observed in an analogue solution where lost or broken tapes are common. With the clinician dictating information directly on the screen within the CliniSys LIMS, observed bottlenecks such as limited availability of secretarial support can be eliminated. The rapid entry of information is further augmented via the use of user definable text block templates / standard reports.
Proven to Support Increases in Productivity and Decreasing BacklogsIn general, implementations of speech recognition and digital dictation solutions embracing modern workflows have returned an increase of productivity by approximately 60% and have shown a decrease of operational backlogs by up to 80%, when used in conjunction with the adoption of Lean workflows. Revenue savings have been identified as a result of a reduction in the medical secretarial team. Turnaround times for reports are reduced as Biomedical staff (BMS cutup for example) and clinicians are afforded the ability to immediately dictate directly into the patient’s record.

Ensuring the Quality of the Digital Dictation ProcessPathSpeech SR harnesses the power of Microsoft Speech RecognitionTM and incorporates vocabularies and terminologies specific to pathology via a medical dictionary. It attunes rapidly to its users, background noise and local dialects and readily delivers a 98% accuracy level with crystal clear sound quality.
The improvement of patient care is of paramount importance and the PathSpeech SR features deliver a high level of reporting confidence and quality through the removal of transcription errors. The digital dictation and speech recognition process is only truly successful when integrated with your Laboratory Information Systems. This is necessary to ensure that all of the relevant patient demographics are automatically attributed to the report. CliniSys is the prime contractor for the complete end to end solution covering all deployment, integration and support activities ensuring interoperability and traceability with all CliniSys LIMS.
Product FeaturesPathSpeech SR has been designed to replace the keyboard by enabling speech recognition into any edit control. The solution allows the user to place their cursor in any CliniSys LIMS text box and immediately begin dictating. The 98% accuracy level can be readily achieved with just 45 minutes of usage.
The select and say feature within PathSpeech SR enables the user to select a word or a combination of words by using their voice and correct the selection by simply dictating the correct words. Easy to use navigation and correction facilities operated by voice alone are fully supported.
PathSpeech SR’s architectural design provides a central sever based solution and saves server based imprints of the users’ voice recognition files rather than onto local PCs. This removes the limitations seen in over the counter retail boxed products which are loaded onto individual PCs and are trained to individual users.

Ability to dictate directly into the patient record with seamless integration with CliniSys LIMS
Adjust screen layout with moveable dictation box
Correct dictations and navigate by voice
Playback, fast forward and rewind your dictation
Create AutoText to insert text using a simple term for further efficiencies
Work with a headset and/or SpeechMike
Simply and quickly access your dictation history
Define your own function keys
Voice command and navigation
Ability to use standard reports/ templates
PathSpeech SR
Operates on a reduced workstation specification, making it ready to use on the majority of NHS PCs
Can be delivered as a hosted or locally installed product
Scalable enterprise solution
The context dictionary is managed centrally and all users benefit when new words are added i.e. new medical terms and/or auto-texts
No delay in text appearing on screen
Ability to create and utilise auto-texts with jump points (ability to use voice to navigate through auto-text headers)
Dragon Dictate
Dragon is CPU heavy requiring a higher workstation specification to operate
Dragon is a boxed product that must be installed and managed per workstation
Requires an install on each individual PC
Dictionary is managed on an individual level
Delay in text responsiveness
Does not support jump points
Centrally managed solution means the end-user does not need to administer the solution on an individual level
Requires user to install and manage application at a workstation level
