Who should attend? Learning objectivesIntroduction

ARTC and Nalco Company, EnergyServices Division, are pleased topresent this review of refinery desaltingtechniques and treatment.

This course will provide an overview ofthe value of a sound desalting process –why you should be concerned withmaintaining good performance toprotect downstream equipment andoverall reliability, and how totroubleshoot operational challenges thatcan occur.

This program should appeal to a widespectrum of refinery operationprofessionals. It provides a sound basisfor the main areas impacting desalteroperations, and includes industryguidelines to target and options to focuson for desalter performanceimprovement activities.

It is ideal for refinery process engineers, operators, and maintenance staff (newand experienced) – particularly crudeunit and waste water processengineers. Supporting companies to therefining industry – consulting andengineering companies, and suppliersof services – should also gain useful andpractical knowledge of the desaltingprocess.

Upon completion of the courseparticipants will have increased theirknowledge of the key desalteroperating practices. They will haveimproved their understanding ofdesalter performance impacts related todesign and equipment differences ontheir individual sites, and should alsohave a better ability in troubleshootingoperational issues using mechanical, operational, and chemical solutions.

They should also take with them therealisation of how critical the desaltingprocess is in:•••••• Protecting the downstream

operations•••••• Improving equipment reliability in

terms of reducing corrosion•••••• Fouling•••••• Energy consumption•••••• Waste water treatment impacts•••••• Reducing total cost of operation

Course description

The course will introduce participants to the desalting processas a whole, covering the factors that influence design andimpact performance, along with the benefits it provides to therefinery process overall.

This training course will cover the following competencies: •••••• Discover the differences in desalter designs •••••• Desalting theory and electrical systems •••••• How to troubleshoot the desalting process •••••• How changes in desalter performance impacts refinery

economics

The course environment is open with many opportunities toask questions throughout the training, whilst networking withindustry peers. Participants will learn best practice and takepart in interactive case studies.
