Each drawing willbe given a visual and a few words that act as mnemonics.With these drawings, I hope to make an impression onpeople by creating meaningful illustrations that wouldtouch peoples hearts.ConceptualDrawingsThis Milo project is a personal work that I decided todo. Milo is an energy beverage that you drink in themorning, where the energy you get from it can last foralmost a day. What I did was to use the Milo cup fromtop view as a symbol of a medal and added straps toit to make it have the full look of a medal. The taglineI gave is Wake up everyday a champion, which wasinspired by medals.Kit Kat is another personal project I did. Kit Kat hasalways used the tagline, Have a break, have a KitKat,which inspired me to use these two countries that havealways been at war against each other; Afghanistanand USA. So it is time for them to take a break from allof it and have peace with one another.PrintAdvertisements 13. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 19I see myself as a passionate person, especially whenit comes to art and design. Throughout my years oflearning, I have developed a strong ability and senseto design, especially in typography, illustration,and layout design. I am infatuated with details, andbelieve that design is a tool to enhance and achieveeffective communication, not just merely a means ofdecorating, but one that holds solid conceptualisationand appropriate visual that is able to communicate.I find that the colour Red suits me a lot. It is a colour offire and blood that is associated with energy, strength,and determination, as well as passion, desire, and love.It is also one that is often used in Chinese culture, asubject with which I have very deep understanding indue to my family background. It is a sad ChineseOpera story that talks about the love between PrincessChangping and Prince Zhou Shixian. In this project, Ihave created and illustrated a logo for the event, whichfeatures a ladys face, portraying the main heroine.Besides that, I have also created a set of promotionalitems such as the event poster, tickets, magazine ad,leaflet with the CD album, and the programme booklet.The PatrioticPrincess Branding 14. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 21This is a packaging design of coloured pencils named,CREATIVE KINGDOM, which is aimed towards primaryschool children. The overall look was inspired by theforms of a castle, like the logo and packaging shape.This product features 32 different colours of water-solublecoloured pencils which allows children toexpress their personality and emotions as they drawor colour. There is also a chess map behind the colourpencil case for the children to play, which helps toexercise both sides of the brain and raise their IQ.Creative KingdomPackagingSHAKE is a newsletter that talks about dance. Dance isa type of art that involves movements of the body, oftenrhythmic and music-centered. The newsletter toucheson the highlights of dances from the past to presentday, showing how people have danced for thousands ofyears. Some additional information such as fashions,dance songs during the era and interviews of thedancers will be featured inside the newsletter.ShakePublication 15. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 23I see myself as an adventurer, enjoying the life ofcamping, swimming and hiking mountains, daring totry out sky diving. This colour of luxury and pleasureappeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving type ofperson who likes lively places. Orange is of youth,strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness.I am flexible and adaptable, aiming to handle anykind of environment or workload. I specialise inillustration, advertising, branding and graphic design.As with the colour Orange, I enjoy socialising andplanning all types of social events. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 25The SMP of HIAP MOH for this project is, ShapingImagination. It is to rebrand the company and to let thepublic know that they are now able to fully bring intoreality the imaginations of a designer. Besides that, thelogotype is made with shapes that form the letters Hor M, leaving room for people to imagine the logo whilestill allowing people to know what it is from looking.Hiap MohCorporate IdentityIn 2013, we won a Merit for a competition calledKancil Award. Along with my group mates, we cameup with a simple idea: ASTRO ON-THE-GO will transformanywhere, any place, into your living room so that youno longer have to rush back home in time to watch yourfavourite channels. People these days are often toobusy to watch them just in their living rooms, so insteadof going back home, we bring the living room to them.Kancil Award:Astro On-The-GoBeforeAfter 17. I want tohelp people find new ways of doing things.I am a fun and loony person; I like to experiment withdifferent and new things. That is what sets me apartfrom normal human beings. I am attracted towardsbeautiful visual but the reason behind that visualis what makes it much more compelling. I wantedto highlight the fun and vibrant colours throughoutthe whole musical by using illustration and certainsets of colour. The weird and unusual is funbecause it shows a different perspective of what theynormally look like. My drawings tend to have a senseof humour and fun. The medium I favour is pen andpencil on paper, while bright and simple colours aremy favourite palette.FURU KARA means full colour in Japanese. My SMP forthis packaging is the strength of the colour pencils. Iused the concrete texture to emphasize the strength ofit and the Fuji Mountain element in the logo to furtherenhance the message. I also wanted the colour pencilsto aid the user. By adding clips to the packaging, theuser can clip the coloured pencils on their sketchbookand wherever they like.Doodles &IllustrationsFuru KaraPackaging 19. When it comes to mycharacter, I am full of what yellow speaks of. Ispread the joy and happiness, applying it alsoin design, because I think everything should bedone with a hopeful outlook. Continuous growthand constant innovation is what I pursue, as Iknow, they give a different sense of freshness.They are also the reasons of why I am able toachieve stable design skills and great patience.When it comes to Green, it is a colour of sunshine, joy,and happiness. It is able to evoke pleasant and chipperfeelings of the other person. Green however, symbolisesgrowth, harmony, and freshness. It anticipates the thingsto come, and suggests stability and endurance.05LIMEGREENThis is a branding project for SAVE ONES SIGHTMISSIONS which fights blindness in the eyes. Thelogo concept uses SOSMs 4A mission: Awareness,Accessibility, Aid, and Attitude. The alphabet A isturned 360 degrees to represent Infinity, tellingthe message that this company is able to reachinfinite lengthsoverseas and everywheretostop vision degeneration.Save Ones Sight MissionsCorporate Identity 20. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 33The packaging project, LITTLE PARADISE, is acertified, fully-organic baby product. The conceptis that babies are a precious gift from God and arelittle angels from LITTLE PARADISE. Therefore thisproduct is here to help mothers care and protectthe health of their little angels. Flora and birdgraphic elements are used to say that the baby willbe happy and grow up healthily.HAPPY INVENTORY is about dessert, and to show theaudience that desserts are not just for taste but canbe made into creative and special creations that willform wonderful memories of happiness. To attractdessert lovers or youngsters, I have designed thelayout in a modern way using graphic elements andphotography so that the readers will feel happy andenjoy the newsletter.Little ParadisePackagingHappy InventoryPublication 21. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 37This projects aim is to revamp the brand called, HiapMoh It is a leading paper merchant in Singapore withsubsidiaries in Malaysia and China. It has existed for atleast 80 years since long ago. I rebranded their companywith the SMP, Paper With Emotion, because designerswant their artwork to be perfect and bring out the feelingsthey want by using different papers. So I created postersto showcase that papers have emotions, and to let othersknow of Hiap Moh.This publication showcases objective stories ofcigarettes. The purpose of the publication is to letothers know about the pros and cons of smokingcigarettes. It is very interesting how design can changeones behaviour, or how it touches peoples hearts.I believe design plays a very big role and has a hugeinfluence on society. I do not merely want to createdesigns that people can forget the next day, but I wantto develop designs with great ideas that can make animpact on people for a greater cause.The colour turquoise means clarity of thought,communication, and also creativity. The clarityof my thought process leads me to have aclear objective to form out the best solutionfor my designs. I personally think that designis not only about pretty things but about themessage it is saying.07TUR-QUOISEThis is done for my corporate identity rebrandingproject. We have to rebrand a paper merchantcompany called Design Line. According to myanalysis, designers are very particular when itcomes to choosing paper. From that point,I was inspired by how artists express themselvesthrough brush strokes. I use these as a mnemonicthroughout the collateral to capture the essenceof the expressions. Colourful strokes are thenused to show the quality of Design Lines paperwhen designs are printed on them.Design LineCorporate Identity 24. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 41These illustrations and doodles are what I did asmy side project. I like to draw lot of different things,but most of the time, I draw a lot of female portraitsand their fashion. I like to do life-drawings as well,sometimes doodling random things and the peoplearound me. I also tend to jot down some of mythoughts along with them so that they can act likea journal which I can look back to. Ink pen is myultimate tool for drawing, which is why my lines onmost drawings look rough and doodle-like.ECOPAL is a project done for my Packaging Designclass. It is a self-made brand of wood-free colourpencils. These pencils come from thousands ofnon-biodegradable materials that are meant to bethrown away. I wanted to make a packaging thatcan tell stories to its buyer, so I made full use of thepackaging to send the message, including the pencilsthemselves. Lastly, the style is quirky and doodle-like,to make it look appealing to the younger audiences.Doodles &IllustrationsEcopalPackaging 25. There would be no progressionthat I would be satisfied with. I like to be free, to doanything I like, and to improve on it to make it betterthan before. I aspire to be a bird, enjoying its flight inthe sky, breaking past my limit.When the Sky Blue colour comes tomind, the first thought is the picture ofan unlimited blue sky, and the vastnessof it. It represents my freedom in design,the unlimited creativity with no rules orboundaries to restrain its development.08SKYBLUEHUMMING BIRD is a pencil box packaging. Thebeautiful bird represents a leading figure forchildren to explore the colourful journey. It isgreen so that it will stand out from the shelfamong other competitors. The packaging designbrings out the unique selling proporsition of thecolour pencils, which is the erasable feature. Thebox is designed with a movable cover, where whenit is pulled up, the colour of the bird changes.Humming BirdPackaging 26. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 45This TVC is to promote the amazing facts of the seacreatures in Aquaria, such as the Giant Grouper,which can weigh up to 600kg. The story talks abouta rich man who goes into a restaurant to order 600peoples worth of food with a short time limit forpreparation. The chefs then get an idea to order agiant grouper which solves the problem.Aquaria TVCStoryboard 27. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 47I am more inclined towards illustration,copywriting and graphic design. Floral elementsand minimalism are my loves. Much like Blue,I care for the needs and conditions of others,knowing that they are not robots but people withfeelings. I do not seek to create conflict, but tomaintain an order of peace in relationships.During chaotic times, I remain calm: one ofthe well-known attributes of Blue. From lifeand design experiences, I keep in mind what Ilearned from my mistakes and from othersfriends, colleagues and seniors who are moreadept. With new knowledge that is gainedeveryday, I impart these into my designs,making them better than the last.09BLUE Dora Yap Kit Yee 014 701 4183 [email protected] www.behance.net/whiteballadsSIX GENERALS is a Chinese Opera with a rather ironicname. You may guess that it is about six generals,but in actual fact it is about a prime minister named,Su Qin. Using this point, I illustrated a visual with SuQin shown upside-down, reflecting that things maynot be how they seem at first. He then contains thesix generals who are right-side up as he was theone who united the nations of these generals. Thelogo was hand-drawn to complement the style of theillustration. Stationery of the event includes eventposter, leaflet, booklet, tickets and a magazine spread.Six GeneralsBranding 28. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 49My class was given the task to write a sloganfor Wonder Bras ads. Something catchy wouldalways remain with people, thus I tweakedthe well-known phrase of kiss goodbye andturned it into kiss silicone goodbye, as oneof the unsaid competitors of Wonder Bra arebreast enhancement surgeons who use silicone.The second ad was done according to theWhats on his mind season of Wonder Bra,implementing the two words that form thebrand name, into the slogan.A magazine about flowers and the lifestyle of modesty.As there are two topics inside, I decided to makea separate, smaller book in the middle for a moreinteresting reading flow. ACACIA is released once everymonth and includes Monthly Bloom, This flower iselaborated in detail and shown on the cover of the issueit is highlighted in. I went with a mild tone of colour to fitthe subjects of the magazine, reaching a sort of dreamyand soft look that I find is suitable for its target audience.Wonder BraCopywritingAcaciaPublication 29. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 51Nevertheless, I am also the type of person whodoes not rely only on instinct but from variousother perspectives as I believe design is notjust about the look and feel, it is about how itfunctions. I will always get myself ready andkeep moving forward to make sure I will dobetter in my career as a graphic designer.Indigo, a combination of deep blue and violet;It is the colour of midnight. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 53GEMPackagingThis project is to design a product packaging forcolour pencils and to create a new brand for it.The brand that I created called GEM, representsthe vibrance of colour. The structure and graphicalpatterns of the packaging were inspired from gemstones. I fully utilised the space of the packaging tomake it compact and easy to carry around.Black and white photography brings us into the worldof monochrome. Without the distractions of colour,stories and emotions can be fully expressed. It isalso able to add timeless romance and a mysteriousatmosphere to make the photos even more impactful.Compared to ordinary coloured photographs, blackand white shows a completely different kind ofconcept and photography experience.Tone of TimelessnessPhotography 31. SPECTRUM 1108 SOLE COLOURS 55I may not be the most outstanding in terms of designskills, but my strength is in articulating the ideas andpresenting to people. I am an active and sociable typeof person. Purple signifies an individual who is creative,knowledgeable and mysterious. We usually follow ourkeen intuition which is rarely wrong.I am a realistic and hard-working person. Atthe same time, I love travelling to many placesand savouring different types of food. I also likeworking on anything hands-on, which correlateswith my passion of educating kids about artsand crafts. The idea for this colour pencilpackaging came from the laboratory and inspiredby the creativity of children that likes to try newthings. The idea was to try and combine thecreativity of children and the colourful outsideworld into a box of colour pencils, making itmore interesting. The materials used for thisbox are Perspex and test tubes, so that childrencan straight away start using the test tubesas containers for watercolour pencil usage.This is a Corporate Identity project for the papercompany,Design Line. The SMP is Reinforce Design,which means that Design Line gives the foundation andsupport for designers to reach superior quality works.The logo is formed by D, L, and a line that showsthe support for its whole form. The posters and paperswatches also show how paper supports design usingthe graphic mnemonic from the logo. It is used likea base, to fortify, prop up, and emphasise.
