Prostate Biopsy - Histology Cassette Transport Kit

Tissue biopsies are commonly used in pathology laboratory testing to diagnose disease. This collection and transport kit allows trained physicians to collect and transport biopsy tissue to diagnose prostate cancer, neoplasm, the cause of prostate enlargement and other prostate related abnormalities. Provided preprinted histology cassettes reduce error and save time by transferring biopsies to the cassettes during the collection process rather than at the testing laboratory.

Once the biopsy specimen is collected in accordance with established protocols, each preprinted biopsy specimen cassette can be placed into the color coded pre-filled formalin vial. Once the completed test requisition is placed into the provided biohazard bag with absorbent, the kit is ready for transport to the laboratory by a preferred courier.

All kits feature standardized components to maximize the ease of collecting and packing specimens for transport. Primary receptacles in the form of 20mL jars are 95kPa certified for transport in compliance with DOT and IATA standards for leak resistant transportation. The kits come with either six, eight, fourteen or sixteen 20mL jars pre-filled with 10mL of formalin solution. Jars are secured by a corrugated insert and placed into the provided zip-style biohazard bag with absorbent material for transport. Corrugated inserts are printed with the prostate biopsy location ID for easy recognition. Additionally, a set of jar labels with the location ID is included in the kit to ensure proper placement of the specimen jars at the point of packing and processing once received at the test laboratory.

The StoneScreen™ collection and transport kit provides a means of collecting and transport kidney stone samples for laboratory analysis. The kit features the StoneScreen™ kidney stone collection cup that is constructed to capture renal calculi and for use with patients attempting to pass stones following extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy. The urine-straining device is a collapsible plastic strainer cup designed for both men and women and includes a nylon screen at the bottom of the cup for stone capture. Once the stone is captured, it can be placed in the storage space under the lid and saved for analysis. After the entire cup and sample is re-collapsed following collection, place the specimen cup into the zip style bag and return the bag containing the specimen cup into the transport box along with the test requisition for courier pick up.

Therapak offers two variations of GI biopsy collection and transport kits. Both kits feature standardized components to maximize the ease of collecting and packing specimens for transport. Aqui-Pak™ Absorbent Pouches

Absorbent sheets are the most cost-effective absorbent product that complies with the regulations governing specimen transport. These tissue-based papers are impregnated with super-absorbent polymers to absorb liquids that may escape during transport. Sheets can be purchased in a variety of stock sizes or custom cut to meet your specific requirements.

Aqui-Pad™ is specifically designed for use on the laboratory benchtop to absorb spills or drops of aqueous liquid during routine lab work. Aqui-Pad™ consists of two material layers with absorbent media sealed inside. The top layer is a non-woven polypropylene pad and the bottom layer is impervious polypropylene film to enclose any liquid spills. Inside the two layers is an absorbent media fabricated from tissue paper and wood pulp materials that are impregnated with a super absorbent polymer. Aqui-Pak™ was designed for the safe transport of laboratory specimen tubes by keeping the tubes separate and providing cushioning at the same time. 95kPa Transport Bags for UN3373 Biological Substance Transport

The two-pocket specimen bags are ideal to use as a secondary watertight receptacle in accordance with DOT and IATA regulations for shipping Biological Substances. DOT and IATA shipping regulations require that UN3373 Biological Substance, Category B specimens are transported in either a primary container or secondary packaging that has passed the 95kPa pressure differential test.

These 95kPa certified bags feature a patented leak-resistant seal. Specimen tube(s) and absorbent materials can be securely sealed within the front pocket of the bag by peeling away the white tape and folding the adhesive down to cover the opening. The back pocket is typically used to hold a requisition form.

Transport Boxes

Each box has a specific tab-lock mechanism to keep it closed during transport. These ambient shipping boxes are ideal for kit packaging and outbound shipping of diagnostic kits. Therapak’s TearTech® Tube Shuttle is a leak-tight, easy-to-open transport bag for holding up to six standard blood or urine tubes. All tube slots are numbered for ease of use. After the tubes are inserted, simply remove the release liner and fold over to seal. The TearTech® Tube Shuttle should be transported either in one large courier bag with absorbent or rolled up and placed into a standard 6” x 9” biohazard transport bag.

Therapak also offers an 8-tube shuttle made of polyethylene film with a zip style closure. The 8-tube shuttle features numbered tube slots for easy reference. Once tubes are inserted, seal the zipper closure for leak-tight transport. When shipping, an absorbent cloth should be inserted inside the secondary bag or container.

The ConstanTemp® features an insulated pouch combined with specially formulated gel that holds temperature for extended periods of time. Car Caddies are large capacity containers for specimen transport that fit well in most courier vehicles. Available in four different internal configurations, the Car Caddy provides for multiple temperature possibilities within the same container. Specimens requiring frozen, refrigerated, and ambient temperatures can be easily segregated while maintaining the required temperatures of the individual specimen. In addition to the interlocking foam lids, a nylon mesh belt with a quick-release buckle is utilized across the top to assist in securing the lids. The outer shell is composed of green 4mm corrugated plastic, which is both durable and easy to clean. Built-in reinforced metal handles assure safe transport from the vehicle to the testing area. For the ultimate preservation of your specimen integrity during transport, the Duramark® Electronic Cooler offers a long list of convenient and beneficial features. With its state-of-the-art technology and digital controller, the required temperature can be set and maintained with complete confidence, from frozen to refrigerated. The Duramark® Electronic Cooler operates using either 12-volt DC or 110-volt AC power with included cables. Battery saving circuitry will protect courier vehicles from premature battery drainage. Virtually silent during operation, it is completely safe to the courier since it does not emit any CO2 gases common with dry ice use. Therapak offers two pre-filled 24 hour collection containers for remote site collection and subsequent confirmatory laboratory test-ing. Each three liter container is pre-filled with 30mL of the preservative which will be refrigerated and mixed throughout the duration of patient collection. Upon completion of the collection cycle, laboratory procedures will specify what the patient will use as a pour-off container in order to retrieve a representative sample of the 24 hour collection at the laboratory for testing. As indicated on the provided container instructions, the patient or acting physician will not send the entire container to the laboratory. Typically, a 90mL specimen container will be provided by the laboratory in addition to these pre-filled 24 hour containers to ensure the pour-off process is acknowledged by the patient or acting physician.

It is also recommended that the laboratory provide a basic urine collection cup with the pre-filled containers for the collection process. The patient is encouraged to void into a separate cup (beaker style collection with pour spout – see 22-131-562 on page 20) and pour the contents into the 24 hour collection container during the collection process. It is not recommended that the patient void directly into the 24 hour collection container due to the preservative acid content inside the container.

WarmMark2™ Time-Temperature Indicators monitor your temperature-sensitive samples during storage and shipment. These single-use indicators give you an accurate, non-reversible record of heat exposure and approximate duration of the exposure.

Some temperature sensitive products must never be exposed to temperatures below freezing. The ColdMark2™ Freeze Indicator is a single-use tool that tells you if your product has been exposed to freezing conditions. Once activated and the temperature dips below the temperature threshold, the large circular window will turn red. This color change cannot be reversed, even if the temperature rises back up above freezing.

The Cervex-Brush® Combi is a new patented, high tech product capable of delivering higher cellular yield of endocervical cells than the traditional Cervex-Brush®. Temperature Indicator Strips indicate the temperature of the specimen within minutes after the initial collection. As an integral part of the drug testing process, the temperature indicator strip provides verification that the voided specimen was indeed within temperature expectations eliminating doubt at the point of collection that a specimen was subject to adulteration. Temperature readings can be viewed in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Available in two sizes and two packaging quantities, these tamper evident seals are used for chain of custody procedures in drug testing to identify the presence of any tampering with the specimen containers or vials from the moment they are sealed until they are opened at the testing laboratory. After annotating the seals with donor identity information, remove the red adhesive seal from the liner and apply over the top of the urine container or vial and press the adhesive on to the sides and top of the vial until securely snug. After a few minutes, the tape will not be removable without showing signs of tampering.

Collection cup features a wide mouth for voiding the initial specimen prior to pour-off into a transport container and, in many cases, collection of specimen prior to rapid test screening. The 180mL cup is molded with a pour spout for convenient specimen transfer into transport vial. Part number 22-131-562 is inner packed 25 cups per sleeve. Gel Refrigerant Packs 0°C (+32°F) are an economical alternative to the wet ice commonly used with insulated shippers for transporting laboratory specimens. Enclosed in a durable 4.1 mil polyethylene film, gel refrigerant packs provide reliable refrigeration for safe transport without leaks or spills that can contaminate your product.

Gel Refrigerant Packs

The gel wrap has been used as a wrap-around barrier to insulate valuable samples such as clinical trial specimen tubes or other evacuated blood tubes and serum transport vials. No preconditioning is necessary due to the gelatin type mass that is concealed inside the outer polyethylene film producing an insulating layer of protection between extreme external temperatures and the specimen transport bag holding the specimen tubes. To use, lay the gel wrap on a flat surface and place your transport bag containing the specimen tubes and absorbent material on one half of the gel wrap. Fold the other half of the gel wrap on top of the tubes and place into a suitable insulated shipping container. Depending on the type of packaging selected to transport Biological Specimens, there are mandatory markings that must appear on the outer packaging according to DOT and IATA regulations. In accordance with current IATA Chapter 17 revised regulations for temperature sensitive products, this package marking label is in the process of adoption under guidance by the TTTF (IATA - Time & Temperature Sensitive Task Force). In an effort to develop minimum standards for the air transport and handling of time and temperature sensitive products, it is the responsibility of the shipper to apply the time and temperature sensitive product label to the outer packaging visible to package handlers. The marking label must be affixed to at least one side panel of each individual package. The lower half of the label may be used to indicate the transport temperature (allowable temperature range) in Celsius designation and in English. Biological Substances, Category B, are defined as human or animal material, including excreta, secreta, blood and its components, tissue, and tissue fluids being transported for diagnostic or investi gational purposes, but excluding live infected humans or animals. A specimen which meets the definition of Biological Substance, Category B (being transported for diagnostic or investigational purposes), but is known to originate from a patient with an infectious disease, should still be transported as a Biological Substance, Category B, specimen. The requirements for shipping specimens in this category must adhere to the regulations detailed by the DOT and IATA triple packaging requirements. In accordance with IATA Packing Instruction 650, for Biological Substance, Category B specimen transport packaging, the UN3373 diamond-shaped marking label with Biological Substance, Category B must be visibly affixed to the outer packaging by the shipper. Other requirements for this packaging include:

Exempt Human Specimen refers to specimens defined as clinical specimens (blood, secreta, excreta, tissue and tissue fluids) not known to contain or suspected to contain a pathogen or a Biological Sub-stances, Category B, specimen in which the pathogen has been neutralized or inactivated so it cannot cause a disease when exposure to it occurs. In summary, when there is minimal likelihood that pathogens are present in the specimen, shipping and marking the package as Exempt Human Specimen is the correct shipping classification.

IATA regulations cite examples of many routine laboratory tests that can now be transported as Exempt Human Specimens. Examples of those tests are: blood or urine for cholesterol levels, hormone levels, prostate specific antigens (PSA), tests to monitor organ function (heart, liver, kidney), tests conducted for insurance or employment, pregnancy, biopsies for cancer, drug or alcohol presence testing.

The Exempt Human Specimen (EHS) category has a specific packing and marking requirement. Specimen shipping packages consigned to couriers and air carriers must have the marking ”Exempt Human Specimen” and must, at a minimum, meet the following package requirements:

Exempt Animal Specimen

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) manual contains a category that was created for shipping animal specimens for which there is minimal likelihood that pathogens are present.

The Exempt Animal Specimen category has a specific packing and marking requirement. Specimen shipping packages consigned to couriers and air carriers must have the marking ”Exempt Animal Specimen” and must, at a minimum, meet the following package require-ments:

• 100mm x 100mm Dimension on One Side

• Leak-proof Primary Receptacle

• Leak-proof Secondary Receptacle

• Absorbent Between Primary and Secondary Sufficient to Absorb Total Primary Container(s) Contents

• Outer Packaging of Adequate Strength for its Capacity

This sturdy shipper has been drop tested under dry ice conditions and temperature tested to ISTA 7D standards.
