Tier I Specifications

• Low: 1,250 CFM & 155 CFM/watt• Medium: 2,500 & 110 CFM/watt• High: 5,000 & 75 CFM/watt

– Must meet both CFM and CFM/watt levels

– Individual models must be within + 5 percent of these levels

• Airflow efficiency (cont.)– Model tested must be representative

of models that will be sold to the consumer

– Multiple fan speeds: take measurements for each speed but report only three

– Fans that are to be sold with lighting (integral or attachable) need to be tested with that light kit mounted

Ceiling fan airflow is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Power use is measured in watts. To maximize energy savings,• Choose a fan with high airflow efficiency (CFM/watt).• Use Energy Star labeled lighting in your fan.• Remember to switch off your fan when you leave the room.

Additional Requirements

• Reporting Requirements (p.8)– “Families of residential ceiling fan

models that are identical in every respect but housing and blade finish may be qualified through submission of test data for a single representative model”.

Tier II Specifications (cont.)

– Specifications for Tier II shall apply to products shipped after September 30, 2003.

– All products, including models originally qualified under Tier I, shipped after this date must meet Tier II requirements in order to bear the ENERGY STAR label (including additional shipments of models originally qualified under Tier I)

Additional Requirements

• Partner Commitments– Qualify at least one model within six

months: not all partners reporting– Provide updated list of qualifying

models on an annual basis: products may roll over but must submit a list in addition to any new product forms (January 2003)

– Provide ENERGY STAR unit shipment data on an annual basis

Unit Shipment Data Requirement

• “All ENERGY STAR partners are required to provide unit shipment data or other market indicators to determine market penetration of ENERGY STAR [annually]”– Ceiling Fan Partners: 1st qtr. 2003

– Collection can be through a 3rd party (i.e., trade organization)
