Special thanks to Stacey Miller, who together with her daughter Bella coordinated the Juried Crafts & Fine Art Fair. More special thanks to Terri Howell, who does everything, including soliciting this year’s wonderful raffle prizes. (We urge BBCers to use the en- closed list of contributors as a guide when patronizing local restaurants.) And thanks to certified Fire Marshal and friend of the BBC, John Herouvis, who kept an eagle eye out. A special shout out to Nora Killoran. And thanks to these neighbors too, for all they did, on Fair day to make this the best Fair ever (hopefully we haven’t forgotten any one and apologies in advance if we have): Ida Anastasia, Glenn Berman, Tom Bur- rows, Mary Kay Doris, Laura Fredericks, Doug Kep- ple, Dora Nyffenegger, Patsy Powers, Stan Simbonis, Rhea Sohne, and thanks to the wonderful Joy Hor- nung, who organized our fabulous entertainment, and to our wonderful neighbor from Morton Street, Greg Jackson, who MC’d along with Brian Sledge. Thank you, Perry van der Meer, who along with BBCer Josh Gosfield, who designed this year’s BBC Ye Olde Vil- lage Fair poster, distributed them, which publicized the Fair so well. Clearly, it takes a village—a Green- wich Village—to make Ye Olde Village Fair the won- derful event that it is. Street Co-naming Moving Ahead by Alice Elliott Thank you to everyone who signed our petitions to have Bedford Street at Grove co-named Larry Sel- man Way. Sally Dill, Kathy Donaldson, Katherine Dieckman, Brian Wallis and Steve Gould were some of the neighbors who circulated petitions. For me it was an adventure in how our local government works. We first attend the Traffic Sub-committee chaired by Shir- ley Secunda. Do you realize that there were nine of our fellow neighbors, on the coldest night of the year, serv- ing this on this committee? I was so impressed by this grassroots commitment to process. Next I presented the proposal to the full community board, and in true Larry style, a woman I had never met in my 30 years Annual Membership is still (only!) $25. For information, please call (212) 366.1451 Bbcblockassociation.org. BBC NEWS AND VIEWS JUNE 2015 MEETING —The next BBC Meeting (and last until the fall) is Monday, June 22 at Greenwich House Music School (46 Barrow St.) at 7:00 PM. At 6:30PM, enjoy cool drinks and dessert with your neigh- bors in the Garden; later, decide with your neighbors the budget appropriations for next year. YE OLDE VILLAGE FAIR The 41 st Annual Ye Olde Village Fair was a smashing success! This year, the weather was perfect with Vil- lagers and visitors alike crowding the Outdoor Café, listening to live music, including old nabe favs such as The Grove Street Stompers, Blue Wolf Blues Band and Patrick Poladian Jazz Quartet. Our Juried Crafts & Fine Art Fair featured original creations of wonder- ful artists and artisans. As always, all monies raised through the Fair go back to our community—to care for our nearly 100 trees and treepits, and to help fund many worthy programs of local organizations. The BBC extends heartfelt thanks to Commerce Bar and Restaurant, New York University, Sotheby’s International Realty, Matt Umanov Guitars and Su- shi Nakazawa 2015 Ye Olde Village Fair underwriters, who helped subsidize our entertainment, as well as tables and chairs, publicity, cleanup, and raffles. Many thanks to these generous BBC neighbors and business- es. And extra special thanks to the generous individu- als and institutions, who together lent their financial support to the Fair to the tune of $7825: Barrow Grove Associates, Anne Ferebee, Fia and Moshe Hatsav, Henrietta Hudson, Daniel Kazar and Adam Moss, Doug and Christina Kepple, Randi and Jeff Levine, Barry F. Schwartz, Paul and Christine Smith and Ron Spalter WOW! That is generosity, that is community spirit, that is leadership.

of knowing Larry, spoke passionately about him and his community work The street co-naming was rec-ommended unanimously by Community Board 2. It must be approved by the City Council in July. I’ll let people know through the Facebook page. I hope you will join me at the Council meeting to see how local government works.

Have you noticed the new trees on Seventh Avenue South? Ten have been planted; many more are on the way. The 7th Avenue South Alliance, an organization formed by some of our neighbors with the mission of enhancing the aesthetic and safety of the Avenue, requested these new trees and is arranging for their maintenance. A quick historical note: In order to link Seventh Avenue and Varick Street in 1914, the Avenue was carved diagonally through our neighborhood, which is why the intersections have wonky angles and many buildings have triangular shapes. While the avenue quickly became home to chop shops and gas stations, today we enjoy the triangular islands (many now gardens), deco motifs along the tops of buildings (look up!) and charmingly askew commercial spaces that date from this period. Stay tuned for updates: more plantings, more litter pick-up and many other improvements. Beginning June 7, National Cancer Survivor Day, Chemo Comfort hosts Confections for Comfort, a weeklong event with seven participating bakeries sell-ing specialities and donating the proceeds to benefit our programs. Each vendor participates in a unique way, creating a special sweet treat to sell. Café Lalo, SweeteryNYC and Two Little Red Hens in Manhat-tan, will participate this year. Brooklyn’s Du Jour Bak-ery will join the effort. The Sweetery truck can be found most weekdays on Hudson Street, near King Street. Chemo Comfort, a 501(c)3 organization, helps cancer patients by providing them with product kits to man-age chemotherapy side effects. Please join us for this sweet week of celebrating cancer survivorship. Anne Marie Paolucci (BBCer) founded this organization.
