Calendar of EventsOCTOBER 2012

The Irrigation Festival float proudly represented Sequim and the Irrigation Festival at the Hoquiam Elks Grand Parade (part of the Hoquiam Loggers Playday) on Sept. 8 and received the Grand Sweepstakes award! Many people are not aware; however, the oat does not simply go back into the barn a er the Irrigation Festival. A dedicated team of volunteers travels with the oat to show the colors at various festivals and parades around the state. Kudos to all who make this happen, from the oat designers and builders to the truck drivers, chaperones, and of course our dedicated Royalty.

The contest to design the logo for the 2013 Sequim Irrigation Festival is complete and a winner has been chosen. The logo represents the 2013 theme of “Dancing rough the Valley.” Keep your eyes peeled for the logo to start popping up on our o cial website: www.irrigationfestival.com and on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/SequimIrrigationFestival. We already are at

work planning the many activities that will comprise the 2013 Irrigation Festival. You can take part in many ways, from working on festival planning in general or working on or participating in a speci c event, or even traveling with the oat to the many parades. If this interests you, please join us at the next festival meeting which will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Mariner Cafe.

The Irrigation Festival always has been about community and 2013 will be no exception. 2013 is the Centennial for the City of Sequim — consequently we will be encouraging even more community involvement in all the events next year. ink about creating a oat and walking the parade route, or getting your co-workers or friends together and forming a drill team! If you have wanted to test the selling of your cra s or art, think about getting a booth at the Arts and Cra s fair. Do you have that classic car just sitting in the garage? ink about bringing it out for the Car Parade and/or Car Show.

Volunteer of the Month!

JoAnn Sharts has been a volunteer at the Visitor Information Center for over 25 years! When asked how long she’s been volunteering here, JoAnn responds, “Well, about as long as this building has been here, I’ve been here.” JoAnn is being honored not only for her dependable support each and every Sunday at the VIC, but also for her dedication. She recently has undergone some health issues, and while she has had to have the occasional substitute, she is still as dependable as ever! JoAnn is quick to share a laugh, share her love for Sequim and to bring joy to all that she encounters. We especially appreciate JoAnn for her willingness to be our volunteer statistician; she keeps track of all of our volunteers’ hours and gives us a tidy report at the end of each year. We wouldn’t want to do it without you, JoAnn!
