Special Olympics transforms the lives of children and adults with an intellectual disability through year round sports training and competition. Through our grassroots sports programs, athletes get fit, have fun, make friends and feel proud. Athletes of all abilities are catered for and everyone from eight years-old and over can enter competitions where every athlete receives recognition. Special Olympics Western Australia is part of a global movement founded by Mrs Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Through her vision what started as a backyard camp for people with an intellectual disability is now the world’s largest grassroots sports program. Today more than 3.1 million athletes from around the world enjoy regular training and a competition ladder that offers opportunities from local through to State, National and International level. Special Olympics Western Australia is based in Perth where enthusiastic volunteers provide regular sports training in: athletics, aquatics (swimming), basketball, golf, gymnastics, softball and tenpin bowling. Special Olympics Western Australia Sports Programs

Special Olympics is the world’s largest year round program of sports training and competition for individuals (age 8 and older) with intellectual disabilities. More than 4000 athletes around Australia train and compete in more than 14 Olympic style sports at Local, State, National and World Games.
