The nominees for this year’s Business Excellence Awards all have one thing in common – a lot of hard work and effort.

Chamber Executive Director Allan Asaph says that “Abbotsford has a tremendous business sector, made up of individuals who work hard, and this is a chance for them to get recognition for a job well done.”

This year’s awards see close to 100 nom-inees vying for the Business Excellence title in 12 different categories, including: Retail, Home Based Business, Consumer Service and Young Entrepreneur. 

Each nominee is thoroughly interviewed before the judges announce a winner. The names of the recipients are kept confi dential until they are revealed at the

Annual Business Excellence Awards din-ner on November 19.

“Our panel of three judges for each cat-egory come from a pool of over 30 indi-viduals who volunteer their time, many of whom return year after year,” says Asaph.

“Our judges report that the nominees consistently demonstrate that they have achieved success by combining their passion with good old toil and sweat.”

The winners of each category are awarded with an engraved crystal trophy, but the real key is that all the nominees are celebrated for their contributions and receive a framed certifi cate that high-lights their nomination.

This year, the awards program is cele-brating 19 years as one of the largest attended events in the community. 

“I think it’s the excitement and the energy that comes from celebrating success that brings people together,” says Asaph. “Attendees have the opportunity to learn about the people behind the businesses, and every year, there are delightful sur-prises from businesses that didn’t really know that they were about to get a chance to show what they’ve become.”

The year’s theme is inspired by the movie Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, and features theat-rical entertainment and musical perfor-mances that refl ect the bohemian under-world of Montmartre, Paris, that tells the
