ADELAIDE CAREERS & EMPLOYMENT EXPOSPECIAL FEATURE
HOSPITALITY offers a sustainable career path for indigenous workers and HITsa Industry Training is helping them get the qualifications required in as little as four weeks.
The registered training organisation is one of the exhibitors at the expo, which provides the perfect chance for jobseekers who are considering doing a course to talk with representatives about what the training involves and job pathways.
HITsa’s collaboration withWorkskil Indigenous is co-ordinating training and job opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The program gives jobseekers nationally recognised training in safe work practices, responsible service of
alcohol, hygienic practices for hospitality service and food safety, meaning they can use their qualifications to obtain work anywhere in Australia.
Individuals can choose additional nationally recognised units to tailor their training to the job they want, whether it be serving food and beverage, preparing and serving espresso coffee, gaming, processing financial transactions and interacting with customers.
HITsa executive officer Olivia Muller says the
training is a journey for students and its staff.
“We watch a group of veryquiet and timid students grow and develop confidence over a very short period of time and the reward of seeing them gain employment is the greatest satisfaction, as everyone’s journey is unique,” she says.
Students also receive help and support with resume writing, how to apply for jobs through online registration, interview skills and presentation as well as mentoring.
Last month 14 students graduated at a ceremony served by students still in training.
HITsa’s industry trainers provide upskilling for the security, retail and accommodation sectors aswell as hospitality.
Smorgasbord of opportunities JOBSEEKERS can fast-track
their hospitality career by completing a HITsa course designed to give them job-ready skills to hit the ground running.
HITsa offers the hospitality training to workers but businesses can contact the registered training organisation directly to find candidates for vacancies.
The training includes four nationally recognised units in responsible service of alcohol, serving food and beverage, preparing and serving espresso coffee, using hygienic practices for hospitality service and using hygienic practices for food safety.
So far 10 workers have completed the course, with six being immediately placed into jobs.DETAILS: SEE HITSA AT THE EXPO, PHONE 8267 3000, VISIT HITSA.COM.AU OR FIND HITSA ON FACEBOOK
