PHOTOLUMINESCENT POLYTHENEAND POLYPROPYLENE SHEETING IN U.K.

Lumilight panels, developed in Belgium by Horizon, are now avail- able in the U.K. through KWR Chemicals (a subsidiary of RTZ). When exposed to natural or artificial light for a few minutes, the light is absorbed and stored. If the light source fails or is removed, the panel emits light for up to 3 hours. The filler is made up of non-toxic crystals based on pure, high-bonded zinc sulphide.

SPECIAL EFFECT LIQUID COLOURS

Metacol Ltd. in the U.K. says that its pioneering work into the use of liquid systens for on-machine colouring of PET, PVC and other thermoplastics has produced results superior in cost, quality consistency and colour availability to similar products. Metacol's colour range includes special effects such as fluore- scent, metallic, glitter, pearl and wood-style pigments and colours for PET.

Changing to the Metacol on-machine liquid colour system is claimed to be simple and extremely cost-effective. The system has been in use for over 10 years.

UV STABILIZER Additive Polymers, of Chichester, has introduced a range of UV MASTEBBATCHES stabilizer masterbatches (which are polypropylene based) to its IN THE U.K. additives range. It already supplies additives for LLDPE.

ACQUISITION

ACQUISITION

Ferro Corp. of the U.S. has acquired Canadien Plastics Concen- trates Ltd. based in Petrolia, Ontario. This will enable Ferro to expand its capacity for specialized colours and engineered plastic materials.

Himont plans to expand its plastics compounding business in the U.S. with the acquisition of a 180,00Ot/yr plant based in East Brunswick, New Jersey from Premium Plastics.
