Use of Part B Placement CodesUse of new placement codes for children ages 6-21 will begin with IEPs having a start date of December 2, 2006 or later.

Districts will have one year to transition to the new placement codes through the normal IEP process.

By December 1, 2007, all Part B reporting of special education placement for children ages 6-21 will be based on the new codes.

Placement CodesOLDA Outside Regular Class < 21% of Day-- Children with disabilities

receiving special education and related services outside the regular classroom less than 21 percent of day. May include children with disabilities placed in: regular class with special education/related service provided within regular classes; regular class with special education/related services provided outside regular classes; or regular class with special education services provided in resource rooms.

NewA Inside the Regular Class >= 80% of day-- Children with disabilities

receiving special education and related services outside the regular classroom less than 21 percent of day. May include children with disabilities placed in: regular class with special education/related service provided within regular classes; regular class with special education/related services provided outside regular classes; or regular class with special education services provided in resource rooms.

disabilities receiving special education and related services outside the regular classroom for at least 21 percent of day and no more than 60 percent of day. May include children placed in: resource rooms with special education/related service provided within the resource room; or resource rooms with part-time instruction in a regular class.

NEWB Inside Regular Class <= 79% of day and >= than 40% of the day --

Children with disabilities receiving special education and related services outside the regular classroom for at least 21 percent of day and no more than 60 percent of day. May include children placed in: resource rooms with special education/related service provided within the resource room; or resource rooms with part-time instruction in a regular class.

special education and related services outside the regular classroom for more than 60 percent of day. May include children placed in: self-contained special classrooms with part-time instruction in a regular class; or self-contained special classrooms with full-time education instruction on a regular school campus.

NEWC Inside Regular Class < 40% of Day -- Children with disabilities receiving

special education and related services outside the regular classroom for more than 60 percent of day. May include children placed in: self-contained special classrooms with part-time instruction in a regular class; or self-contained special classrooms with full-time education instruction on a regular school campus.

OLDD Public Separate Facility -- Receives education programs in public separate day

facilities. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services for greater than 50 percent of school day in public separate facilities. May include children placed in: public day schools for students with disabilities; or public days schools for students with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and in regular school buildings for the remainder of the day.

E Private Separate Facility -- Receives education programs in private separate day facilities. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services, at public expense, for greater than 50 percent of school day in private separate facilities. May include children placed in: private day schools for students with disabilities; or private days schools for students with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and in regular school buildings for the remainder of the day.

NEWD2 Separate school -- Receives education programs in public or private separate day

school facilities. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services, at public expense, for greater than 50 percent of school day in public or private separate schools. May include children placed in: public and private day schools for children with disabilities; public and private day schools for children with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and in regular schools buildings for the remainder of the day; or public and private residential facilities if the students does not live at the facility.

facilities. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services, at public expense, for greater than 50 percent of school day in public residential facilities. May include children placed in: public residential schools for students with disabilities; or public residential schools for students with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and separate day schools or in regular school buildings for the remainder of the day.

G Private Residential Facility -- Receives education programs in private residential facilities. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services, at public expense, for greater than 50 percent of school day in private residential facilities. May include children placed in: private residential schools for students with disabilities; private residential schools for students with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and separate day schools or in regular school buildings for the remainder of the day.

NEWE2 Residential Facility -- Receives education programs in public or private residential

facilities during the school week. Includes children with disabilities receiving special education and related services, at public expense, for greater than 50 percent of school day in public or private residential facilities. May include children placed in: public and private residential schools for children with disabilities; or public and private residential schools for children with disabilities for a portion of the day (greater than 50 percent) and in separate day schools or regular schools buildings for the remainder of the day if the students.

Placement CodesOLDH Homebound/Hospital -- Receives education programs in homebound/hospital

placement. Includes children with disabilities placed in and receiving special education and related services in: hospital programs, or homebound programs.

NEWF2 Homebound/Hospital -- Receives education programs in homebound/hospital

placement. Includes children with disabilities placed in and receiving special education and related services in: hospital programs, or homebound programs.

NEWG2 Correctional Facilities -- Children receiving special education in: short-tem

detention facilities (community-based or residential); or correctional facilities

H2 Parentally Placed Private Schools – Children enrolled by their parents or guardians in regular parochial or other private schools and whose basic education is paid through private resources and who receive special education and related services at public expense from the local education agency or intermediate unit under a service plan
