Adelaide Guitar Festival brings together classical, contemporary, jazz, blues and rock musicians to celebrate the boundless possibilities of the guitar.

Resonance brings performers to the people and this year will connect with the residents, pupils, patients and staff of more than 30 aged care homes, schools and hospitals across regional South Australia.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this year’s Special Edition festival: artists, staff, partners, volunteers, community groups, and of course, our adventurous and enthusiastic audiences.

DOUGLAS GAUTIER AM CEO & Artistic Director Adelaide Festival Centre

The Government of South Australia is proud to support this Special Edition of Adelaide Festival Centre’s internationally renowned Guitar Festival.

This year the wonders of the festival will be spread far and wide, with gigs and workshops in Adelaide, UNESCO City of Music, and right across South Australia.

From Mount Gambier to William Creek, and from Wudinna to Murray Bridge, the Guitars in Bars program will bring six-string magic to more than 120 venues including bars, cafes, flower shops and barbers.

Wherever you go to enjoy this feast of live music, prepare to be inspired!

  • It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s special edition of Adelaide Guitar Festival!

Returning favorites, one of the greatest ensembles in the world, Punch Brothers’ breathtaking virtuosity, elegance, and spirit will be on full display at the Woodville Town Hall for one night only. Concerts will be given by Karin Schaupp and Miles Johnston (winner of the 2018 Guitar Competition). Jeff Lang and Danny McKenna will deliver a burning double bill with Cal Williams Jr. Our final concert, The Gathering, held at Elder Hall for the first time, will feature the Guitar Festival Orchestra as well as the Blues & Roots students showing off the week’s work and sharing

the stage with visiting artists and very special guests. The International Classical Guitar Competition heralds in a new era with its first annual appearance, and our intensive school holiday program, Winter School returns to develop the skills of Orchestral and Blues & Roots guitar students of all ages.

All of this is in addition to our rapidly growing Guitars in Bars and Resonance programs, which are both well and truly statewide this year.

Join me and the Guitar Festival team at all of these events – we can’t wait!

SLAVA GRIGORYAN Artistic Director Adelaide Guitar Festival

Adelaide Guitar Festival 2019 is a Special Edition between biennial festivals, which will return in full in 2020.We just couldn’t wait another year to bring this program to you!

    Dear friends

  • “The genius of Thile and bandmates, guitar player Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjo player Noam Pikelny, and fiddler Gabe Witcher is the artistry with which they mix bluegrass, roots, rock, pop, jazz, and classical to create a unique, contemporary sound.” ROLLING STONE

    An evening with

PUNCH BROTHERSThe triumphant return of Punch Brothers.

After flooring audiences in their previous festival appearances Punch Brothers return to Adelaide Guitar Festival bringing with them their celebrated new release, All Ashore. Released in July 2018 and having won the 2019 Folk Album of the Year Grammy, All Ashore is described as “…an album of rich instrumentation and understated beauty that reveals deeper nuances on each and every listen” (The Independent).

These icons of American music seamlessly marry the boozy headiness of bluegrass with the spirit of a great rock band and the virtuosity of a world class chamber ensemble.
