H.R. BharadwajGovernor of Karnataka

Dr. Hans Raj Bhardwaj was born on 17th May 1937 at Village Garhi Sampla of District

Rohtak in Haryana. His father, Late Pt. Jagan Nath Prasad, served as one of the Security

Officers of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. His mother Late

Shrimati Sarti Devi, was a religious lady. Dr. Bhardwaj, was married to Shrimati Prafulata

Bhardwaj, in February, 1960 and blessed with one son and two daughters. Dr.

Bhardwaj's wife, son and a daughter are advocates by profession.

Dr. Bhardwaj, had his early education at GBC High School, Rohtak. He graduated from

B.M. College Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, and did his Master's degree from Punjab

University, followed by a degree in Law from Agra University, (U.P). Dr. Bhardwaj, has

been conferred upon with awards and honorary doctorate degrees by several

universities in recognition of his commendable contribution in the field of law, legal aid,

and justice.

Dr. H.R. Bhardwaj, is a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and held several

important positions in his successful career. He was appointed as Public Prosecutor for

Delhi Administration from 1972-77 and Senior Standing Counsel for the State of Uttar

Pradesh from 1980 to March, 1982. He appeared as one of the Counsels for Prime

Minister, Bharat Ratna Late Smt. Indira Gandhi in Special Courts set up by the Janata

Government led by Shri Morarji Desai, the then Prime Minister and also successfully

argued the cases arising out of the split in Indian National Congress.

He was first elected to Rajya Sabha from the State of Madhya Pradesh in April, 1982. He

was re-elected from the same State in year 1988, 1994 and 2000. For his fifth term in

year 2006, he was elected to Rajya Sabha from the State of Haryana.

He resigned the membership of Rajya Sabha on 26th June, 2009, before assuming office

of Governor of Karnataka.

Dr. Bhardwaj had also been the member of several Parliamentary Committees such as

the Committee of Privileges, Standing Committee on Home Affairs, Business Advisory

Committee of Rajya Sabha.

Dr. Bhardwaj was inducted in the Council of Ministers as Union Minister of State of Law

and Justice from 31st December, 1984 to November, 1989, Minister of State

(Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Planning and Programme Implementation

from 21st June 1991 to 2nd July, 1992, Minister of State for Law, Justice and Company

Affairs from July, 1992 to May 1996, Cabinet Minister for Law and Justice from May

2004 to May 2009.

Mr. Arun FirodiaChairman,Kinetic Group

Mr. Arun Firodia – who has given revolutionary products like Luna – which gave mobility to common man and Kinetic Honda which gave mobility to women. He is now busy designing aircrafts and instruments for precision farming, early diagnosis of diseases like breast cancer and an equipment that reads a book – a great boon for visually impaired people.

He is a brilliant engineer and social activist.

Mr. Arun Firodia got his B.Tech with distinction in Electrical Engineering from IIT, Mumbai. He went to US for his post graduation and did his MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology.) with flying colours. He also did his MS in Management from 'Sloan School of Management'.

He inherits the rich tradition of his illustrious father late Shri H K Firodia, the Doyen of Indian Automobile Industry, who developed a variety of fuel efficient vehicles for common people and made them available at affordable prices.

Mr. Arun Firodia established “ H K Firodia Memorial Foundation ” in 1996 in the memory and honour of his father Late Shri H K Firodia. The Foundation has instituted “H K Firodia Awards For Excellence in Science & Technology”. These are given to outstanding Indian Scientists for their original and world class contributions to any branch of science. The awards are meant to inspire young people to take to science, develop a scientific temper and a spirit of innovation. Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Former President of India is the 1st recipient of this award. Other distinguished scientists like Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Dr. Madhavan Nair, Dr. R. Chidambaram, Prof. CNR Rao, Dr. R A Mashelkar and Dr. Obaid Siddiqi, Dr. P N Tandon, Dr. M. Annadurai are also some of the award winners.

B. MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology – USA ), Award (2007) for distinguished achievement and exceptional service to Country, Society and MIT.

C. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai – Distinguished Alumnus Award (2008) for excellent contributions to Industry, Academia and Society.

D. TERI – CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Award (2004-05) - in Appreciation for the efforts towards good corporate citizenship and sustainable initiatives amongst Corporates.

E. The NCPEDP - Shell Helen Keller Award (2004) for contributing to the rehabilitation of Leprosy affected people who had become social out casts.

Murugesh R. NiraniMinister for Large & Medium Scale Industry Government of Karnataka

Mr. Muruguesh Nirani is the Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries,

Government of Karnataka.

Mr. Nirani has been BJP State Committee Member from 2004 to 2005 and District

President (Bagalkot) from 2000 to 2003. Prior to that Mr. Nirani has been State Vice

President of BJP Yuvamorcha from 1993 to 2000.

Mr. Nirani has conferred with several awards, such as; Bharatha Udyoga Rathna Award,

Shri Vishveshvarayya Navarathna Award, Basava Shree Award, Mayura Award,

Ranichennamma Award for Excellent Performance in Industrial Development.

Mr. Nirani has taken up several development work in Bilagi Constitutency during his

Mr. P A NazarethManaging TrusteeSarvodaya International Trust

P A Nazareth, former high commissioner and ambassador to USA and many other

countries is also the founder and managing trustee of Sarvodhaya International Trust

which is dedicated to promoting the Gandhian values of truth, peace and non-violence,

communal harmony and humanitarian service. Nazareth is the recipient of prestigious

U THANT PEACE AWARD for his “life-time of dedication and world service in promoting

Gandhian ideals.” This award has been conferred on only a few very distinguished

persons.

He is the author of the book “Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership” which has been

acclaimed as one of the monumental works on the father of our nation.

After retirement from Indian Foreign Service, P A Nazareth has been passionate about

spreading the message of peace, truth and non-violence expounded by the father of

our nation. He has been giving lectures at various Institutions in and around India and

has been highly claimed.

Dr. Mathoor KrishnamurtiExecutive DirectorBharatiya Vidya Bhavan

Dr. Mathoor Krishnamurti, born on 08.08.1929, in a Brahmin family of Mathoor Village

in Shimoga District, has a multi-faceted personality. He was attracted towards Veda,

Upanishad and Sanskrit at a very young age and studied the scriptures with meaning

and commentaries, and practiced Kumaravyasa Bharatha Vyakhyana. Translated

several books into English from Kannada, Tamil and Hindi languages. Worked as a

Newspaper Reporter and rose up to the position of a Sub-Editor in Samyukta Karnataka-

a renowned Kannada Daily. Joined the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in 1969. The credit for

building the Bhavan's London Kendra to the present status goes entirely to the

indefatigable effort of Mathoorji, under the able guidance of its Chairman Shri Manek

Dalal. Consequent on his retirement at London in 1995, he was asked to continue at

Bangalore Bhavan, under the Chairman Justice Shri E.S. Venkataramaiah, former Chief

Justice of India.

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore with the support extended by the Hindustan

Machine Tools Ltd., Bangalore was able to bring the entire ten parvas of Kumaravyasa

Bharatha and the Shanthi Parva and the Anushasana Parva from the Moola Bharatha

(original) with Gamaka rendering by Gamaka Vidwan Hosahalli Keshalli Keshava

Murthy, in the form of Kavya Vachana and Vyakhyana in 200 audio-cassettes due to the

ceaseless efforts of Mathoorji.

The Ku.Vem.Pu. University has conferred Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) on

Mathoorji taking into consideration the yeoman service rendered by him in the literacy

and cultural field.

Hinduism (English), 'Yogakshemam Vahamyaham' and Gandhi Upanishads.

Narendar PaniProfessorSchool of Social Sciences

Dr Narendar Pani is an economist by training, he has, over the last thirty years, written

extensively on a variety of subjects. He is the author of Inclusive Economics: Gandhian

Method and Contemporary Policy, Redefining Conservatism: An Essay on the Bias of

India's Economic Reform, and Reforms to Pre-empt Change: Land Legislation in

Karnataka. He has published a number of academic articles in India and abroad.

He is also the author of an explainer on the WTO, two novels, a booklet on theatre and

several hundred articles on the editorial pages of newspapers.

Most significant research contribution: Reformulated the Gandhian method to make it

an effective tool to understand contemporary policy making.

Dr. M V NadkarniProfessorInstitute of Social & Economic Change

Dr. M.V. Nadkarni, an economist by training and profession, has deep interest in other

social sciences as well, as also in religion and philosophy. He was a Professor at the

Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, from 1976 to 1999, and is

presently an Honorary Visiting Professor at the same Institute since 2002. He is also the

Chairman of the Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Development Research, Dharwad

(CMDR), and a Founder Trustee of CISED at ISEC.

M V Rajashekaran

M V Rajashekharan is a veteran congress leader who belongs to the moderate school of

thought. He has been with the Congress Party for over five decades. Mr Rajashekharan

has penchant for rural development. He has been associated with several NGOs

working in this field. The 83 year old leader has made valuable impact on national and

state political scene. He has been a member of Lok sabha, MLA in Karnataka State

assembly, a member of Karnataka Legislative Council and member of Rajya Sabha. He

has been the Minister of State for Planning in Govt. of India.

Mr Rajashekharan is a rare combination of being trained in whole range of agriculture

related body of Knowledge including Balanced Farming, Agricultural Extension,

Cooperatives, Buying, Selling and Credit, Technical training in Education, Health and

Extension Services Educated at Mysore University, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi,

University of Missouri and Kansas State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences,

U.S.A.

In spite of being in politics all his life he prefers to call himself an agriculturist and his

profession the promotion Rural Development Programmes.

His political career spans five decades during which he has been active in almost every

segment of society from youth activist, labour and farmers' activist, parliamentary

politician etc. While in the Ministry of Planning at the Centre his contributions to

planning process are still remembered as landmarks in terms of promoting the rural

sector, putting Gandhian values in practice.

Surendra Laxminarayan Rao

Surendra Laxminarayan Rao is presently a columnist in the “Deccan Herald”

(Bangalore), and the “Telegraph” (Calcutta). He is an economist by training and has

worked as a professional manager for 28 years in marketing and general management

positions in multi-national companies and as an independent management consultant

for five years. He has taught management for many years as visiting faculty in major

Indian business schools and was Executive Chairman, National Management

Programme (1987-1990). He was Director-General of NCAER (National Council of

Applied Economic Research) from 1990 to 1996. From 1998 to 2001 as the first

Chairman of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission he established it as an

expert and independent agency. He was Chairman of the Institute for Social and

Economic Change, Bangalore, (2004 to 2010), President, All India Management

Association, (1985-86), Vice-President, People's Union for Civil Liberties, Tamil Nadu,

(1976-1979). He has written or edited fifteen books, many papers and hundreds of

articles. His latest book is "Powering India - A decade of Policies and Regulation".

Among his earlier books are From Servants to Masters? The Evolution of Professional

Management in India (2007), Successful Negotiation (1994), Indian Market

Demographics-the consuming classes (1996), Elephants Can't Dance-Managing in a

He is the Director of Bhavan's Management Research Centre(BMRC), Bangalore (PhD

Centre of Manipal University,Manipal) & Dean,M.P.Birla Institute of

Management;Associate Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Bangalore.

He was the Resident Director, Bhavan-Marshall Institute of Management. He was the

Resident Director of Ohio-Manipal School of Business, Bangalore. At present, he is the

Chief Editor, Dharana- Bhavan's International Journal of Business.

He has successfully guided a Ph.D thesis in Management entitled:Leadership

Effectiveness & Styles in Relation to Personality Characteristics-An Exploratory Study

for Manipal University(2008).He is on the Editorial Team of African Journal of Marketing

Management(AJMM).

He is the Founder Principal of M.P. Birla Institute of Management: Associate, Bharatiya

Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore. He was Professor of Marketing and Academic Coordinator at

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management and at Maharishi Institute of Management,

Bangalore. He was Associate Professor at Mudra Institute of Communications,

Ahmedabad (MICA).

He has had an assignment as Assistant General Manager at KSAM Board. It was during

this period spanning over two decades he was mercurially involved in the preparation

of several research project reports for the World Bank, Commercial Banks and related

institutions. He was largely responsible for the evolution of Market Intelligence System

(MIS) in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC). He has over sixty papers

Akber AyubColumnist

A mechanical engineer by profession Akber Ayub began his career in the merchant navy

and sailed for close to a decade. Later, following extended stints in different areas of

engineering – from being a project engineer in a five-star chain to an industrialist

exporting to Europe, to a faculty in a college – he finally settled as a writer, heeding to

what his heart indicated. He has been associated as a writer and editor with three travel

volumes that have a worldwide circulation. He is also a contributor to Jack Canfields

'Chicken Soup for the Soul' series of books, and now divides his time between writing

for various newspapers including the edit page, contributing to niche magazines in

different genres like travel, spirituality, environment etc, and writing for corporate

magazines. Some time back he made his first foray into technical writing and published

a book on Marine Diesel Engines, and then set to work on the next title. Akber Ayub is

currently working on his first novel. A self-help, spiritual book of over 82,000 words that

he has titled Wake up to your true self. Wake up to the natural world is due to be

published soon.

Dr. Subhash SharmaProfessorIndian Business Academy

Educated in India and USA, Dr. Subhash Sharma holds a Ph.D. from the University of

Southern California, Los Angeles and Post Graduate Diploma in Management from

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

Prof. Subhash Sharma has made distinctive and significant contributions to the

development of Indian Management thought through his creative and thought

provoking books, viz. Creation from Shunya (1993), Management in New Age: Western

Windows Eastern Doors (1996), Quantum Rope: Science, Mysticism & Management

(1999) and Arrows of Time: From the Blackholes to the Nirvana Point (2001). His

academic contributions have been acknowledged as 'creative and original' with 'quite a

few exciting, non-traditional and revolutionary points of view'.

Prof. Sharma has also made significant contributions to institution building. He was

founding faculty of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA). He has also

assisted in conceptualization and development of WISDOM (Women's Institute for

Studies in Development Oriented Management) at Banasthali, Rajasthan. He is

founding Director, Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore.

He is founding member, Indus Business Academy, Bangalore and is currently its Dean.

Prof. Subhash Sharma is associated with several leading management institutes and

professional bodies. He is also a recipient of excellence and achievement awards for his

significant contributions.

Dr Wooday P. Krishna represents a rare blend of a technologist, educationist, social

activist and humanist.

Law Conferences held in New Zealand(2007) and Malaysia(2011).lHe was a Member of the Indian Delegation that visited China in 2006 on a Goodwill

Mission.lHe successfully led the Indian Delegation to Sri Lanka at the invitation of the

Govermnent of Sri Lanka under the Indo-Sri Lanka Youth Exchange Programme in 2000

Dr. Anil RawatDirectorInstitute of Business Management & Technology, Bangalore.

Dr. Anil Rawat is currently the Director of the Institute of Business Management &

Technology and head of the National Initiative on e-Commerce. A Ph.D in International

Studies from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, he studied for MBA courses at

the Temple University Japan Campus. He received his training in Management of

Technology through Canadian Consortium in Management Schools; CENTRIM, the

University of Brighton, and SPRU, the University of Sussex, UK. He combines a long

academic career and industrial consulting experience. He has worked with the Council of

Scientific and Industrial Research, International Science Policy Foundation, International

Management Institute, All India Management Association. He is the founder Director of

the Institute of Finance and International Management, Bangalore. While working for his

Ph.D he spent several years in Japan at the University of Tokyo and subsequently as

Senior Fellow on Japan Foundation Fellowship. He is fluent in Japanese. He was awarded

Dr. Rawat has been a visiting faculty at the Fore School of Management, Indian Institute

of Management, Ahmedabad. He has been associated with the International Association

of Management of Technology and coordinates a Track on Technology and Sustainable

Development. He has participated in the programs of UN University, UNDP, UNIDO,

UNESCO etc. He has been invited to present papers in a number of international

conferences. His other interests are in the area of Innovation Management, Future

Studies, and Environmental Management, Human Rights and NGO activity.

Prof. Arun MudholDean - AcademicsInstitute of Business Management & Technology, Bangalore.

A Post Graduate in Management and a Computer Science Engineering graduate with

over eighteen years of industry experience. He has been a motivated achiever as a

senior faculty for the last eight years. He has been involved in many assignments related

to technology management and consulting thereby bridging the gap between the

industry and the educational institutions. Arun Mudhol has been involved in extensive

teaching assignments in some of the top Universities in China and India. He has been

recognized and honoured as the best foreign faculty by one of the top five Universities

in China. He has to his credit 14 books in IT, which he has authored apart from being on

the editorial board for several others. He has been on the Board of Studies for

Universities in India advising them on the need for implementation of technology

related topics in the curriculum. He was also involved in implementation of Distance
