The distribution, stock and quality of food resources are impacted by human-induced activities. Indonesia is increasingly facing food supply-related issues including a lack of food access, food shortages and high food prices. However, government interventions and local level approaches are making strides to ease society’s pressure on food resources, ensuring that access to food is equal and sustainable. MODERATOR: Mrs. Hayu Dyah Patria, Mantasa Hayu Dyah Patria is a food activist and an eco-feminist. In 2009 Hayu set up an organisation called Mantasa, which focuses on the activities of exploring edible wild plants to address the problem of malnutrition in Indonesia. These plants are often considered as weeds, even though actually they have a lot of goodness and potential to be explored further. Through her work, she has economically and socially empowered many women who partake ecopreneurship, turning wild plants into a variety of foods and drinks. SPEAKERS:
Mr. Mark Smulders, FAO Mark Smulders is a Senior Economist and Programme Coordinator of the Agricultural Development Economics Division at FAO and holds a B.Sc and an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from McGill University and the University of Saskatchewan. He has 25 years of experience in establishing food security information systems at country and regional levels, and in providing food security strategy and policy advice. As Coordinator of the FAO FIVIMS Programme, he has been a co-editor of the State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI) and has led the development of the FSN Forum at FAO.
