Dr. Shareefah has a private practice in Washington, DC. Dr. Al?Uqdah also conducts mental health evaluations for persons seeking polit ical asylum. In this capacity she has worked w ith several survivors of female genital mutilation. Dr. Al?Uqdah has expanded her private practice to a nonprofit community mental health clinic that w ill provide low cost mental health services while providing valuable training to graduate students enrolled in service orientated graduate programs.

Shareefah Al?Uqdah loves working in the community. She speaks on various issues related to mental wellness, parenting, community violence, substance abuse, and self-esteem building. Lastly, and most importantly, Dr. Shareefah is loving w ife and mother to four wonderful sons.

Shareefah N. Al?Uqdah, PhD, became a psychologist to address the mental health needs of African Americans. Upon graduating from Howard University w ith her doctorate in psychology, she began working in private practice. Dr. Shareefah soon became an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Howard University?s Counseling Psychology program, her alma mater.

At Howard, her commitment to diverse groups continues, as she helps educate future psychologists to ensure that mental health professionals are culturally competent scientist practit ioners. As a professor, she is an avid researcher of issues that impact urban families, which include intimate partner abuse, community violence, and parenting behaviors. Dr. Al?Uqdah is also committed to exploring the intersectionality of the African American Muslim identity.
