Plastics are the wonder material and the material of wonders! They are a key enabler of a modern lifestyle, fundamental to any innovation and a building block for a low carbon economy.

To raise awareness as to the amazing potential of this material, we decided to launch a European Innovation Awards competition.

This innovation award will acknowledge the work of companies that thanks to plastics have introduced and developed a new idea, a new method, a new product or technology that respond to a societal need while

respecting the 3 Ps of Sustainability (People, Planet, Profit).

With this award, EuPC, PlasticsEurope and SPE want to honour companies that have excelled with regard to innovation in the plastics industry. This new award is accessible for all companies that play a

role in the value chain of plastics products, from the larger chemical companies to the plastic converting SMEs, without exceptions.

European Plastics Converters (EuPC), PlasticsEurope and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) are pleased

to announce their European Plastics Innovation Awards 2015.

Eight categories were defined in which innovative solutions for the plastics industry can be submitted:

Jury

The evaluation of the parts will be made by recognized specialists from different branches of

the plastics industry and the academic institutions, the European Commission and the press.

They will represent different European countries to secure the pan-European nature of the award.

Award Night

The winning parts will be announced at an Awards Ceremony in Brussels during fall 2015. Exact date and location will be defined in the coming weeks.

Who can submit?

Any company that is involved in the development and/or production of polymer materials/additives and plastic components

can nominate parts for this competition.

Dubai, May 2015 - SPE (Society of Plastics Engineers), the world’s largest technology-focused society in the plastics industry, headquartered in CT, USA, and GPCA (Gulf Petrochemicals

and Chemicals Association), the voice of the downstream hydrocarbon industry in the Arabian Gulf region, have agreed to join forces in bringing information and technical knowledge

to the polymer and plastics industry in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council).

The well-known PlastiCon conference from the GPCA and SPE’s renowned technology conference, ANTEC, will be merged into one event for the GCC market.

PlastiCon is a yearly, prominent conference, which provides an up-to-date view on trends and developments in the regional and global plastics industry, and ANTEC was successfully

organized in Dubai in 2014. The joint conference will take place for the first time on 10-12 January 2016 in Dubai.

Both SPE and the GPCA believe that joining forces will ultimately benefit the entire industry.

Dr. Sadoun, Secretary General of the GPCA said: “Now in its 7th edition, PlastiCon has gained a reputation as the unique venue for gaining critical insights along the entire polymer value chain with an unbeatable lineup of speakers. Partnering with SPE allows us to reinforce

our commitment to providing a forum for plastics producers and converters to meet and to tap into the network and technical know-how of SPE.”

SPE’s CEO Willem De Vos adds that, “Partnering with the GPCA gives us access to a strong forum of polymers and plastics producers in the GCC and will allow SPE to reach a wider audience

and bring valuable knowledge to a region where polymer and plastic converting is growing and evolving from commodities to more engineering and specialty products.”

SPE also announced that its previously scheduled ANTEC Brussels conference in Europe will be postponed for an undefined time. People who submitted a technical paper for the conference

are encouraged to present it at PlastiCon/ANTEC Dubai early next year.

SPE & GPCA JOIN FORCES TO BRING INNOVATIVE TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE TO THE GCC POLYMER & PLASTICS INDUSTRY

The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) represents the downstream hydrocarbon industry in the Arabian Gulf.

Established in 2006, the association voices the common interests of more than 240 member companies from the chemical and allied industries,

accounting for over 95% of chemical output in the Gulf region.

The industry makes up the second largest manufacturing sector in the region, producing up to US$102.6billion worth of products a year.

The association supports the region’s petrochemical and chemical industry through advocacy, networking and thought leadership initiatives that help
