Introduction
Gilson offers the broadest array of SPE instruments on the market today, including the
GX-271 ASPEC™, the GX-274 ASPEC™, the SPE 215 and virtually any other Gilson instrument
that accommodates the Code 300 Series Racks. These systems are ideal for pharmaceutical, food &
beverage, clinical, forensic and environmental applications.
Fundamental to Gilson’s automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) system is our Mobile Rack and
Positive Pressure technology. The Mobile Rack technology allows you to automate your entire SPE
and Liquid Handling process from the initial condition to the fi nal transfer. Gilson’s SPE instruments
utilize Positive Pressure to ensure more reproducible fl ow rates and recoveries, less sample to sample
contamination and higher precision.
TRILUTION® LH provides an intuitive interface for creating SPE and liquid handling protocols/applications
to condition cartridges, load the sample, wash the cartridge, elute the analyte of interest and transfer the
eluent to a fi nal sample vessel or inject it
directly onto an HPLC or LC/MS system.
Available with a single probe,
multiple probe, or spannable
multiple probe instrument, Gilson
has an SPE and liquid handling
instrument solution to fi t your needs.

All of Gilson’s SPE and Liquid
Handling instruments are controlled
via TRILUTION® LH software.
TRILUTION LH was designed
with you, the user, in mind. The
graphical interfaces decrease the
learning curve while increasing
your effi ciency. TRILUTION LH allows
you to concentrate on the science,
not the software.
As is the case with all Gilson
instruments, the SPE and liquid
handling instruments are extremely
versatile, modular and robust. Gilson’s SPE instruments are versatile enough to adapt as your science changes and
robust enough to guarantee a low cost of ownership and a workhorse instrument for years to come.

Solid Phase Extraction System Features
GX-274 ASPEC TM with two 406 Dual Syringe Pumps
The 406 Single and Dual Syringe Pumps
deliver Positive Pressure via a gas cylinder
or the syringes. (To achieve more accurate
fl ow rates, use the syringes for the air push.)
Optional peripherals such as injectors,
on-bed solvent reservoirs, three-way valves
and peristaltic pumps extend the capabilities
of your instrument and allow you to tailor
the instrument to meet your specifi c needs.
Compatible with the most common and
widely accepted SPE cartridges and
96-well extraction plates, the Gilson
instruments are capable of utilizing
1, 3 and 6 mL SPE cartridges as well
as 96-well extraction plates.
On-bed rinse stations minimize
carryover and cross-contamination
concerns.
Pressure is constantly monitored and recorded
through pressure sensing modules to immediately
identify a change in performance, cartridge failure
or plugged solvent lines.
Gilson’s newest and most powerful SPE and liquid
handling software yet, TRILUTION® LH allows complete
control of the entire system.
Mobile Rack
technology allows
the user to perform
typical liquid
handling tasks as
well as SPE tasks
from the same
bed layout.
Positive Pressure
elutions guarantee
more reproducible
results, higher
percent recoveries
and more consistent
fl ow rates.

Why automate SPE?
Automating SPE increases throughput
and improves reproducibility, while
minimizing the exposure to harmful
chemicals. Gilson’s instruments are
designed to be workhorse instruments
that can be set up quickly. The
application can be started while the
researcher works on other tasks and
the instrument will fi nish effortlessly.
This minimizes the cost of labor
typically associated with manual
SPE processes, and allows SPE to
be performed without a researcher
present. With single, four probe and
eight probe parallel processing units,
you decide which instrument provides
the throughput needed for your
application.
