Dear WSI Sisters and Brothers,

As we are entering the out breathing phase of the annual cycle, it has been a great joy to assist in the birthing process of this WSI journal. In what seems a natural birth with minimal labor pains, contributions have appeared spontaneously, each showing a different facet of the wonderful jewel held in the heart of our service group for the world. In fact there have been so many articles submitted, (nearly 25) that we have decided to rename it Sparks of Light: The WSI Journal as a more accurate description. The contents of the articles in this Journal indicate how the theme for our Conclave in May 2010 – Love, the Fire within the One Heart – has reflected in our lives, in our groups and into our larger circles of influence. The obvious wish to share insights and experiences with each other suggests the pace with which the WSI is developing and becoming integrated as a group. Some of the articles also point towards the next Conclave, highlighting the astrological climate in which it will take place, and the interface between the 6th and the 7th rays which will increasingly influence the conditions for our present work. By encompassing both the present and the future, the Journal provides a sense of continuity. We hope reading it will inspire you to continue the particular service you are drawn to, while learning more about what others are doing in our worldwide network of LIGHT. As we know from the esoteric teaching, one of the major inner cause of the current world crisis is the receding of the 6th Ray energy that has given ideals, life force and substance to the current civilization, and the inflowing energy of the 7th Ray, which reveals the truth that spirit and matter are one energy, one unified field, vibrating at different frequencies. The 7th Ray impulses group endeavors that create new ways of organizing energies and systems so that the light of Spirit is revealed in new forms. The 6th Ray has played an essential role in helping people focus on the high ideal of becoming a perfected human being, which Christ so fully and archetypically demonstrated. Dedication, devotion to the ideal, one pointed focus, willingness to release lesser forms for the greater, are all wonderful gifts of the 6th Ray. The challenges arising around the 6th Ray in current times have to do with the less evolved use of it by humanity, resulting in personality worship, fanaticism, and the intense

desire to impose one's beliefs on others, which we can see in religious, political and scientific fundamentalism. Because we are at the end of the 2000 year cycle where it has been the predominant ray, we are also struggling with the crystallizing tendencies of the entire civilization built around this energy, which, although receding, is still radiating to humanity through Pisces/Virgo. When individuals or institutions begin to feel that the power they wield is waning, they reassert more aggressively the old values

and ways of functioning, hoping in vain this will renew the energy and power they knew in an earlier era. All this is not to say that the 6th Ray and its Master will not be present and fulfilling a useful function in humanity's life and unfoldment, adding its qualities to human capacity. It's just that the 7th ray is rapidly becoming the predominant energy on the planet, with its focus on the Divine immanent in all life forms. It brings Spirit and Matter into recognised relationship and builds a civilization that reflects the beauty of the higher truths and principles right into the "shrine of humanity's living," to quote DK. And it is certainly the energy that carries the most potent, fresh, and joyfully renewing life force.

This 7th Ray energy is increasingly pouring into the planet, stimulating the creation

of entirely new ways of living and new forms of social organization, based on entirely different principles. The major conflicts everywhere on earth today are between the outgoing 6th Ray, which says “everything will be fine if we just keep on with things as they are, guided by our old values,” and the incoming 7th Ray, which says “things are truly not right when we have such imbalances in available resources and opportunities on the planet, and the world needs to be set up differently.” This inevitably brings tension and conflict, ultimately leading to widely diverging views of what the problem is and what needs to be done to create a better future. This is the essential cause of all the tension and crisis we experience in the world today. The differences between the 6th and 7th Rays can be most clearly seen in a comparison between the principles of the current 6th Ray civilization, and the principles of the emerging 7th Ray civilization. A civilization focused on a 6th Ray underlying energy and thought pattern is oriented towards focalizing energy, power, money and control into centralized pyramids of power. One enters these

About 600 B.C., under the fiery eyes of Sanat Kumara, Christ took the third initiation, becoming the head of the Planetary Hierarchy, thus becoming, for humanity, the perfect image of God.1 In the Ageless Wisdom Teachings, we can recognize that Christ has at least five different aspects, or meanings:

1. The inner Christ, which refers to one’s “inner glory,” the human soul.

2. The historical Christ. The historical Christ came to the planet to build, in the soul of humanity, a prototypal being, an ideal man and woman

that would be exactly what was in the mind of God.

3. The Christ, Head of Hierarchy. Christ, in this aspect, is a name that is considered to be a title or office. When the present head of Hierarchy surpasses Himself and moves on to a greater position, the One who will replace Him will also be called “the Christ” The Head of Hierarchy does not belong to any one religion but to all religions, to the whole of humanity.

4. The Cosmic Christ, the soul of the Universe. The Cosmic Christ can be recognized as the link standing between matter and spirit. The Cosmic Christ is not only the bridge between Hierarchy and humanity but also the bridge between Hierarchy and Shambhala.

5. There is also the term Christ Consciousness, which refers to awareness on the Buddhic Plane.

further perfected Himself during the unfolding Age of Pisces, will serve the Universe as an image of the Cosmic Magnet as He enters into the Aquarius of the Greater and Lesser Zodiacs. In addition, it is thought that at some point during this reign of 2,500 years, as He enters into the lesser zodiac, is when the Law of Divisibility will likely be implemented, bringing an Aspect of the Cosmic Christ into incarnation into the three worlds.”1

The Lord Maitreya. Regarding the reappearance, Agni Yoga refers to the Epoch of Maitreya; The Master M. says: “Maitreya is coming, radiant with all fires. His Heart is aflame with compassion for destitute humanity. His Heart is aflame with the affirmation of the new Covenants. Maitreya’s is the Age of the Heart!” The Christ, when He comes into incarnation, will most likely project himself into many parts and be where he wants to be. This is called the Law of Divisibility, a term used in Agni Yoga that means a highly developed spirit—one who is able to contact, simultaneously, various people in various locations. For example, a Master can be seen in various groups at the same time. He can even be in

different planes serving and teaching on different levels to meet various needs of the people. He can do different jobs in different places at one time. He impresses the space with his images, and so forth.

I would like to change it to: The Aquarian Christ will magnetize the people who are imbued with the principles of the Aquarian Age: “Within the field of humanity, those who respond to the first wave of energy will be His disciples and Initiates. These are the ones who have a purified consciousness and are considered to be the more sensitized and receptive “cells” in the body of the Aquarian Christ. A receptive cell means to be as perfect as one possibly can be and to be free from hatred, jealousy, revenge, greed and the sense of separateness.”1

If we accept that fact that the Christ, the head of Hierarchy, in the Aquarian Age will serve the Universe as an image of the Cosmic Magnet, then each time we align to the Cosmic Magnet – the Center of Love – in our meditations, we will become further magnetized and charged with this fiery energy. The Cosmic Magnet is the Center of Love—the Heart Center of the

Living Etheric Awareness Every Day Printable Version

Within the 2010 Conclave in the Community of Living Ethics, the power of the meditation focussed in the cave in the head has been ascertained, that has made the group more cohering and effective in its subtle action. Many among us have highlighted, through this new methodology, further energetic sites used by the Soul within its physical/etheric instrument. This experience, now a group heritage, is allowing us to bring our attention on how the Soul operates in everyday life. The attention on the etheric body is therefore in the foreground: Master R. already reminded us that “when the etheric body is enough developed, the Soul uses it to master and control the mental nature, the astral consciousness and the physical body”.

Therefore it is easily understood how important it is for the Server to acknowledge the etheric body as the direct instrument of the Soul and to bring into everyday life the awareness and the development of the etheric dimension. The question is: “how to live in the etheric dimension?”

The answer lies in the concrete experience, through which we discover that the PRESENCE in the actions and on all the levels is

a first requirement to live in this dimension. That entails the development of the capacity of perceiving LIFE in everything is surrounding us, and the awareness of the invisible net, which is linking us not only within the individual structure, but to the family, to the friends, to the groups, to the nation, to the subhuman- and superhuman kingdoms, to the planet, to the solar system, to the galaxy, to the galaxies as well.

This life style is different than the common human being’s existence, because it is characterized by the basic awareness that every thought, emotion and action traces an indelible mark on the etheric field to which we belong.

Such a life style returns value to the small everyday acts and invites us to weigh our forces and energies, in order to be able to trace with the utmost delicacy those signs that the Soul wants to imprint in the finest etheric net.

All life’s aspects can be seen through an etheric viewpoint. This check requires an essential sight, free from the conditionings built during the times in the family’s social and national contexts. Such conditionings may exist within the spiritual research groups as well, sometimes deriving from idealistic attitudes. It is necessary to re-educate ourselves towards a multidimensional reality based on a simple and essential approach. The most trivial aspects, indeed, of the everyday life require a rediscovery of their value and a renewal realized through the meaning of ritual. So a new attention has to be given to breathing, movement, eating, relationship with the Light, working and resting activities.

Living according to an etheric dimension means to acknowledge within and outside oneself the LIFE’s FIRE, and to be able to draw it out in order to manifest it in everyday acts. That makes the Server a radiant instrument of evolution.

From Bringing the Ancient Wisdom into the Workplace

Setting: A classroom at Fredrikstadvej 1-3 in Aalborg, where people on unemployment benefits have been told to attend a 12 week course on how to find a job; the course is called “Getting Started Quickly”. I walk in to the room looking at the 20 people sitting at the tables, their looks vary from anticipation to frustration, even anger. None of them are here because they chose to, only because they have to or the state will take their unemployment benefits from them. I start by explaining where they are, why they are here and who I am. At the end of this, the looks are still pretty much the same and the room is thick with emotion. I continue to present the program

for the next 12 weeks, about resumes, applications, interviews, advantages and disadvantages of using different methods to get a new job, networking, personal profile, strengths and weaknesses, keeping motivated and barriers that prevent you from getting a job. Quote:

I am over the next 12 weeks going to present different topics, I am not going to tell you what to do, but I am going to tell you what options and possibilities you have. What you choose to do is up to you!

I want you to think about what you do, why you do it, if you want to do this and if the answer is no, then what do you want to do instead?

I don’t want you to do things because “that is how it is done” or because others want you to do it, but because you choose to.

I want you to become proud of who you are, of what you have to offer this world and take charge of your own situation. This is your life.

Through the presentation I show and tell them that I am going to treat them with respect, that I sympathize with their situation, and that I am going to teach them useful things. After the presentation the looks have changed, some are relieved, some anticipatory, some happy, others still a bit skeptical, but the emotional tension has lifted. Now we have a foundation to build on. Over the next 12 weeks I challenge their perception of themselves, the way they do things and try to make them understand that they are truly exceptional and that they have the power to choose what kind of people they want to be and how they react to the world. Quote from the movie Fish about a fish market in Seattle: “It is about who you are, while you are doing what you are doing. Who are you going to be?” The only reason I can do this job and do it well is because of my esoteric background, my view on life and people and because of who I am. I get to ask a lot of people (about 800-900 in the last year) some of the same questions, that I have asked myself on the path, questions that have made me into the person I am today. I don’t use technical terms, I use everyday language and use questions to get people thinking – challenge their perception. I bring all of myself to work regardless of the consequences, because this is who I am and who I want to be. And the response I get is fantastic.

This year I traveled for 3 months in Europe and South-America, the WSI Conclave in Italy being the first station. Two points of significance emerged on which I would like to report. The first is the importance of physical meetings and subjective work as our way of developing planetary consciousness. The second point is about world issues about the Jewish people which DK wrote about. First I present a few afterthoughts about the Conclave. The theme of this year’s conclave being Love, we shared deep meditations and many significant insights about Love; the group atmosphere was truly one of love, lightness and much joy. Yet this was, for me, only the fertile (back-) ground. What was of deep significance for me was a palpable shift or consolidation in the group mind – bringing into focus the need for practical application. From one angle this was inspired by the physical encounter with the Community of Living Ethics, whose manifesting powers are

extraordinary, if not to say stunning. And from another angle, there seems to have ripened in the intergroup an urge for practical action to go along with the meditative efforts. Some of the various service groups, who have formed over the years, seem to have moved into a more goal-oriented, engaged mode. This urge towards action was most strongly expressed during the last day, when the focus was on the Middle East. We started with the ceremonial reciting of the GI in the three last languages: German, Hebrew and Arabic. For me, and my coworker Helene, it was of special importance to be part of the German group while bringing in the Hebrew and the Arabic. I think for the whole group it was a moment of recognition and healing of large human patterns. The engaged and lively group discussion following the Middle East meditation was for me the highlight of the Conclave. We seemed to move together into a more tangible understanding of the importance of holding a global perspective, which the WSI so consistently pioneers. One theme was how to synchronize and anchor the various subjective services, like the ME Meditation, the Mediterranean Healing Meditation, and others, into practice; how to contribute as an

intergroup to the solution of world problems in a practical way. Think globally and act locally. Should the intergroup act locally by meeting on the physical plane in problem areas? In which other ways can we, as disciples, think globally and act locally? These questions continued to occupy my mind as I was traveling from Italy to England, Germany, Denmark, Brazil and Bolivia. From the many groups I met in these countries I was greeted with an urgent interest in some information and guidance in how to rightly approach the Jewish issue. Standing on the seam-line between the esoteric community and the Jewish people, I have pondered for many years how a ‘bridge of compassion’ can be built across the abyss of mutual misunderstanding. This summer I sensed a ripeness throughout the esoteric community to start to deal with this issue. In the DK Academy in Denmark we did a deep session on meeting our own glamour regarding the Jewish issue. We explored the polarization of pro-semitic and anti-semitic feelings. We grappled with the recognition that the entire

Human Rights and the Chinese Way Commentary of the Peace Prize being awarded to Liu Xiaobo

The following article is written in the light of my recent return from an uplifting 18 day journey to China and the fact that the imprisoned dissident Liu Xiaobo has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Since my journey to China 19 years ago I have been critical towards the potential role of China as a superpower acting with a great amount of pride and powerful arrogance in foreign policy and with considerable nationalism and regimentation towards their own population. This critical viewpoint is often confirmed when we hear about the imprisonments and house arrests of dissidents, when we watch interviews with the countless Chinese citizens who

express the very same ideas as the propaganda supplied by the government, when we see the support of China to the dictatorships of Africa, when we observe how the country buys support from poor states during votes in the UN and when we see how rigid their policy is at climate-conferences. The concern over the growing economic, political and military power is in no way eased by the knowledge through A. A. Bailey that China has the 1st ray for power as a soul-ray and as a personality-ray the 3rd ray for economy among other things. Furthermore, when we study the history of the country as an innovative nation with inventions like paper, porcelain, gunpowder, and printing as the world’s greatest and most advanced nation in over a thousand years, from the fall of the Roman Empire to the breakthrough of industrialism in Europe, and as the wealthiest country for the major part of this period, then we have to question whether or not the role of the United States and Europe as leaders within the areas of

economy, technology and the military is coming to an end. When China takes a leading position in world-society will it then be as the arrogant nation who ignores human rights as well as freedom of speech, or will it be as a global partner adapting to the values of the world-community? If we look at this game from a western viewpoint there is a fair reason for pessimism. But let us consider the following possibilities for optimism ensuring a balanced evaluation: Optimism based on historical and social development

• The West too has a history of oppression: Almost every country in the west has a history of oppression of human rights. Just how many dissidents were imprisoned or exiled in the western countries in the 1800? There was a

time when the United States government used military force in demonstrations and strikes resulting in numerous deaths. And the last dictator in western European history, Franco in Spain, only disappeared a few decades ago. All over the world we see how free opinion-forming is gradually taking place and often as a result of great sacrifice from generations before who pioneered for individualism.

• Neo-colonialism has its time: The role China has taken in Africa and in international politics is almost exactly what the United States specifically has done

since World War II:

Maitreya as he knows each of us. The last two stanzas express a state of open awareness without sentimentality, basically attaining the completion stage of the Path. This song can be used as an invocation of Maitreya’s Presence and as a prelude to silent meditation.

In Iceland, my home country, the crisis has been and is extremely violent. The population has experienced a natural catastrophe, which has a huge influence on the farmers in the southern part of the country, and not least on their domestic animals. As we recall, the volcano, Eyjafjallajökul has been active for a long period, and ash, lava and soil have destroyed the fields and the environs on the entire southern part of the country. Nobody yet knows the extent of the damage this has caused for the agriculture in this area. The other crisis is the wrecked Icelandic economy, which happened with a bang about 2 years ago. The impact on the country’s economy of the fraud and greediness of a few people was so catastrophic that it will take generations to rebuild the economy of the country again. It has been interesting for me to follow this process as a person from outside, who nevertheless feels so involved in the country. It was as if the population woke up from a longer dream in fairy-tale-land, where everything was possible just moments before,

but now no longer. The population woke up in the middle of a nightmare, and the nightmare continues. For months, hundreds of people gathered outside the Parliament building every Saturday; equipped with pots, pans and wooden spoons and with beating hearts and fear of loss, they tapped a sound together in the hope that the politicians would wake up and do their part in saving what could be saved. What differed from what I have seen before, elsewhere, was that most of them were artists, people who had lived a bit away from the rest. They were their own masters and you can definitely say that politics did not play a big role in their lives. My own background is the artistic milieu in Iceland, and therefore I know the space well in which you are totally distanced from politics, but where any expression related to life, death, politics, aesthetics and the human condition happens in artistic ways. But now it seemed the time had

come, the time for something new, the time to be a part of the community and pass on new ideas, which could be used to build something different from before. After a while, in the cold of winter, with mittens, winter coats and icy faces outside the Parliament building, armed with pots and pans and the will to change for the whole and for oneself, they succeeded in getting the old government out, the government which was part of catastrophe descending on the whole country. And they succeeded in getting a new government, which could put the pieces together and attempt to reconstruct what was left, in the ruins.

It became a great victory for the green parties in Iceland. But the story did not end with ‘everybody living happily forever after’. The problem was/is big and reconstruction will take a long- long time. On the 29th of May 2010 municipal elections were held in Iceland and this did not happen quietly. In Reykjavik a new party saw the light of day, The Best Party. Following a period where the citizens of Reykjavik had been exceedingly dissatisfied with the old system, because of the wrecked economy and corruption among other things, The Best Party won with

Protecting All Life: The EU Approved the Directive on Vivesection Printable Version Unfortunately, on September 8, 2010, the EU approved the directive on vivisection. Such directive excludes the laws that impose limits to the level of tension and pain to which the animals are subjected. All the rights acquired from the animals destined for such cruel practice, rights achieved after years of struggles, were cancelled in a day, by a group of nations which were delegated to represent the “new Europe”. The severity of this decision is perhaps the most evident sign that we have to act urgently to correct the relationship between humanity and the animal kingdom. It is important to constantly be reminded that the wellbeing of many forms of life depend on human choices, and that each battle in animal’s rights favor, even in small proportion,

reinforces the values which support “the Life” within the society. Luckily, there are many groups in the world which are involved in animal’s rights. We, as an intergroup, can give a great contribution following Master D.K.'s advice, that is to operate on the subtle levels, introducing new causes by the use of creative meditation. For this purpose we suggest the following seed thoughts:

• “That the prisoners of the Planet can be released”

According to a notice which the master Djwhal Khul, also called the Tibetan, gave to the theosophical organisation, Lucis Trust, in the 1940es, the sign opposed to the Sun sign represents the influence of the monad in the chart or the purpose of the spirit with the incarnation. The Earth is always placed in the monadic sign, as it is placed 180 degrees opposite the Sun. The Signs of the Heavens.

The two charts look very different and reveal two complementary perspectives of the same date: the Gemini full moon in 2011, focus of the WSI Conclave in Denmark.

The geocentric chart is related to the Earth as a planetary Personality; the heliocentric chart as a Soul. One could say that the first is operative, the second is causal. Both of them are useful and “relatively true”.

A planetary group needs to know both of them in order to listen to the elusive Covenants of the Heavens; to know what to do at the right moment; to be ready to do the Father’s Will.

In the geo-chart the soul

direction (the ascendant line, the “middle way”) is aligned with the axis of the solstices; that is, one with the primary cosmic Vector between Sirius and the Galactic Centre in this passage between the two Ages of Pisces and Aquarius! Port Harcourt: Nigerian Group for Goodwill, 2008, 283pp. Harry Juwe’s Nation Building: Working with the Divine Plan is a useful contribution to the continuing search for pathways and ideas for ensuring peace, justice, equity and progress in a world that has become increasingly unequal and complex. He defines the purpose of nation-building as a component of a Divine Plan, noting that although the world is one, it is not yet “one humanity”. How to achieve this oneness of humanity in accordance with the Divine Plan would seem to be Juwe’s original contribution to the existing discourse on nation building. His reliance on the teachings of ancient wisdom, and the pervading tone of spirituality in his analysis, may seem a bit complex for the ordinary reader, but the issues which he raises and examines in 14 lucidly written chapters are so relevant and contemporary, especially as he focuses on the limitations of developing nations, particularly Nigeria, and how such nations can be transformed for the common good. In the face of rising expectations, a failed social system and a further contraction of values in the political and economic spheres, not a few Nigerians have sought a spiritual explanation for the nation’s problems. At a global level, this God-discourse is further used to explain the disparities between the more developed countries of the North, and the highly challenged, poor and developing countries of the South. Nigeria has been described for example, as a failed state. The question has also been asked whether indeed it is yet a nation or merely a geographical expression. In a country with probably the largest number of religious places of worship in the African continent, the God-explanation for the people’s circumstances is bound to attract attention. In this book, which grew out of a speech delivered by the author in 2005 titled “The Place of Nation Building in God’s Plan”, Harry Juwe attempts a clarification of the Divine Plan. His premise is that the “sons of men are one”, and nations are interdependent and interconnected, but nations like human beings are evolutionary entities, at various stages of development. Their level of development is determined by their degree of attunement to the God-consciousness that is the unseen but felt force behind the whole of Creation. God’s Will for Humanity is encapsulated in such values as Love, Light, Wisdom, Beauty, Goodness and Progress, and the divine plan is for all human beings and nations to grow together and realize their potentials to the fullest in peace and harmony. But to fulfill this Divine destiny, human beings, communities, nations, must rise beyond the lower level of personality, the level of greed, glamour and illusion, and rise to the higher level of the Soul, the level at which the nation or an individual can access the powerful spiritual energies of God, or what Juwe calls, “the Seven Ray emanations of God”. As he puts it, “the ray of the Soul is the embodiment of God in man or in a nation and expresses itself as harmony, orderliness, justice, co-operation, sharing, non-violence, inclusive vision, and right human relations which are the distinctive qualities of divine Love” (p. 9). TERESÓPOLIS ANNUAL MEETING From the 24th to the 26th of September 2010, Avatar Cultural Foundation in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil gathered students coming from several parts of our country for its annual meeting. It was our 28th Meeting and it took place in Teresópolis, RJ, Brazil. Its theme was “JOY IN THE SERVICE.” Through small groups’ meditations, lectures, debates, strolls all over the place and delicious meals, we managed to integrate the several groups, by sharing their experiences and ways of life, besides uniting our friends.

Reflecting on the huge challenge our Foundation has been

facing, which is the continuity and the support of the Service that was started 40 (forty) years ago by a group of students led by Dr. Jayme Treiger, it was obvious that the theme SERVICE should be emphasized. That was the reason why the Meeting theme was chosen to be THE JOY OF SERVICE. Our joy was even greater when we were informed that groups from Brasília, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Rio de Janeiro and Niterói would join us; this meant that the head, the throat and the heart of Brazil would be represented. During the Meeting we had the opportunity to announce the Latin American Regional Conclave that will be held in Uspallata. Mendoza-Argentina, Latin America from the 9th to the 12th of November 2011. We prepared a projection with comments on some images about the last WSI Conclave, in Italy, which added positive feelings to our Meeting, besides leading us, once more, to those unforgettable moments lived in the Comunità di Ética Vivente (Community of Living Ethics) and in Assisi. This projection has aroused interest in the people who have never been in a WSI event to participate in the next Latin American Conclave. Another aim of the Meeting was to organize, as Service, a meditation directed to Brazil as a whole, and also to the coming elections which will be selecting its new leaders, so that the Brazilian people’s choice reflects the Divine Will.

pyramids and climbs the ladder upwards to ever greater power through the absorption of the values, norms and thought patterns of those centers. Although there may be a slight degree of cooperation between them, the goal is always to expand the base of each pyramid’s scope of power at the expense of other centers of power. This creates a very restricted flow of energy, resource and information, as control is a primary value. In a 7th Ray civilization the pattern is distributed and shared power, information and resources, with the underlying energetic pattern being interlinking spheres. Here information, ideas, resources, etc., all flow between spheres across points of contact and communication. This allows energy to circulate relatively freely, reflecting the pattern of the higher spheres. In this energetic geometrical pattern, the energy flows and circulates very dynamically, with each sphere or collection of spheres held within a larger one, proceeding into infinity. The boundaries of each sphere are semi-permeable, and information, people, ideas and resources flow across edges relatively easily. Rather than the

focus being on the accumulation of power and control by a specific part, the livingness and quality of life for the entire system is the core concern. We can see examples of both of these patterns playing out very clearly at this time. Crystallized, dogmatic religions, are losing adherents who have begun to ask questions for themselves, and are desperately trying to hold on to their power. They are reasserting their old theologies with increasing fervor, condemning all who do not accept their beliefs, further alienating people. Many corporations have manipulated and controlled governments to give themselves ever greater power to operate unaccountable to anyone, with ever greater profits and devastating damage to humanity and the earth, and most are now being seen as the scourge of humanity. Scientific, pyramidal institutions maintain a power control of what topics are even considered worthy of scientific study, and ignore all evidence of the nonmaterial world’s influence, as this would shatter many long held theories, and all the funding and prestige that goes with their dominance. At the same time, the 7th Ray civilization is rapidly emerging in hundreds of thousands of cooperative, group-oriented

projects being created to solve real problems all around the world. The invention of the internet has created the greatest information and resource circulator ever seen on the planet. Ideas flow around the world at lightning speed, and innovations spread like wildfire. Groups organized to solve social, political, economic and environmental problems are finding a receptive and open audience, and are helping to change policy, move resources to where they are needed, and expose wrongdoing everywhere. Cooperative forms such as community supported agriculture, socially responsible investing, microfinance loans to developing entrepreneurs, new ways of dealing with crime with restorative justice, new approaches to politics and decision making with multi stakeholder dialogues, and soul based education are all examples of the emergence of the new, 7th Ray civilization. As meditators and teachers, our role is clear: to orient our energy, attention, support and friends to the principles of love, right relationship to one another and all life, and the places where the new civilization is emerging. We can be sure that it is emerging somewhere very near to us, if we simply open our eyes

and discover the spheres of love and joyful energy to be found in groups all around us.

Christ, His Reappearance, and the Avatar of Synthesis

The Christ expressed Himself as Jesus. But it is not Jesus who will be reappearing, but rather Christ, the head of Hierarchy, Who is coming. And, the Avatar of Synthesis is going to express Himself through Christ. That is the mystery of the Avatars. When Christ was expressing through Jesus, He was the Avatar. The Avatar is the revealing one. The revelation is coming through Him.

the Christ energy. In this New Age, Christ is going to express the Avatar of Synthesis, Who is a great Entity.

And because the Avatar of Synthesis is coming from extraplanetary sources, the Planetary Logos will enter into His aura. It is up to the Hierarchy to recognize Him, as humanity must recognize the Christ.

The Teaching indicates that the Avatar of Synthesis is going to come as the embodiment of the Seventh Ray and is connected with the Great Lodge of Sirius, which is outside our solar system. His influence is, of course, coming already, as evidenced through this group and others.

The Tibetan Master says that this Avatar cannot approach closer than the Cosmic Mental Plane. However, He will project his image to our Higher Mental plane. As a Cosmic Avatar, the Avatar of Synthesis will not descend below the Cosmic Mental Plane. But He can project His image to the mental plane. Those who want to contact Him must be consciously living in the mental plane.

We are slowly seeing the influence of synthesis in the world and the disturbances it is causing; for example, the global financial crisis. Unity though is becoming more visible. We see

these things through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the William J. Clinton

Foundation, established by former President Clinton, former President Carter, and others.1 This union slowly will demonstrate; outer cleavages [will] be gone. Many are working for unity because the Avatar of Synthesis is opening the synthesizing centers in every human being. Those who oppose this idea of unity will be slowly eliminated from life’s arena.

What is the Avatar of Synthesis doing? He is trying to impress on humanity that the only salvation that humanity can have is through synthesis—through harmony, understanding, unity, brotherhood, and cooperation. He is on the mental plane and He is inspiring us.

If you carefully observe, you will recognize the writings of people who are in tune with the Avatar of Synthesis; those enlightened politicians, educators and psychologists, doctors, and scientists—they speak that language. They speak in terms of “unity.” You see it in groups, such as our group, the World Service Intergroup. But these groups are still in embryonic form.

The Avatar of Synthesis works through the Hierarchy as a whole, and specifically through

the Christ, the Manu, and Master Morya, Who form a triangle of energies into which (and through which) the energy of the Avatar of Synthesis can pour, finding right direction under Their combined efforts.1

The Tibetan Master says that the Great Avatar of Synthesis will transmit the energy of Synthesis. He thinks that Christ will be the representative of the Avatar of Synthesis and act as His transmitting Agent.

The Shambhala force, the force of Taurus, combined with many other forces, is paving the way for the reappearance of Christ. In A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, we read: “The reappearance of the Great Lord … will date from a certain Wesak festival at which a mantram (known only to those attaining the seventh Initiation) will be pronounced by the Buddha, thus setting loose force, and enabling His great Brother to fulfill his mission. Hence the gradual recognition of the Wesak festival, and its true significance in the occident is desirable, and opportunity will be offered to all who are willing to place themselves in the line of this force, and thus become vitalized by it, and consequently available for service. The reaction mentioned above, will also become possible through the pressure brought to bear by the present children, many of whom are chelas and some initiates.

They have come in to prepare the way for the coming of His Feet.”1

Does the Mother of the World play a part in the reappearance of the Christ? I think we would all agree in the affirmative. The Star of the Mother of the World is the planet Venus. In 1924, for a short time, this planet came unusually near to the Earth. Many feminine movements were kindled by those powerful rays. In June of 2004, Venus passed directly in front of the disc of the sun. This will happen again in June of 2012 and 2117.

“Can we see this as a sign of the incarnation of the Mother of the World, or at least an increase in feminine leadership in preparation for the return of Christ and the Mother of the World? Can these passages of Venus indicate the approach of the reappearance of an Avatar?”1

Let me reiterate what I said early, as a closing to this mini-talk: The Christ expressed Himself as Jesus. It is not Jesus but the Christ Who is coming, and the Avatar of Synthesis is going to express through Christ and the Planetary Logos will enter into His aura. When Christ was expressing through Jesus, He was the Avatar. The Avatar is the revealing one. The revelation is coming through Him.

Western society has a stake in it. We also reflected on the specific assignment that the Tibetan gave R. Assagioli in preparation of working with this world glamor, and how we can continue the pioneering work of this world disciple. In Germany, where I met some more heart-centred New Age groups, I found a strong interest and admiration for the Jewish people and Israel. I think that this is partly an idealization, the flip side of the still deep-seated anti-Jewish feelings. When I came to South-America I was surprised to find that this glamor is not part of the local racial mind. Viewed from this neutral base, I could distinguish more clearly the geographical contours and qualities of this world glamor. For many years I was looking for the problem mainly within the Jewish people. I knew of course that it needs two sides to create a polarization, and that the problem was caused by humanity as a whole. However, my eyes, as the eyes of the world, were on the Jews and more specifically on Israel, as the outer manifestation of the problem. I was busy with what needs to be done for Israel to

change its ways and thus solve this problem. To reflect on it from the vantage point of the Southern hemisphere helped me to see the part which the Western world plays in clearer perspective. There are less than 15 million Jews in the world. Those Westerners who have a karmic relation with the Jewish people, mainly Europe and North America, are in an overwhelming majority of 800 million people. Because the Jewish people in general, and Israel in particular, hold the ‘shadow of the West’ (early Christianity, crusades, colonialism, materialism, Holocaust), it is quite difficult for Western people to think objectively concerning the Jews. We all have strong feelings on the issue. The problem is so huge and so complex, that most people cannot grasp it. When we cannot hold a complexity in our minds and in our hearts, we polarize. We take on one side and reject the other. We see only one aspect of the issue. We disciples, too, are hard put to reach a completed point of view regarding the Jewish Riddle. DK gave us extensive guidelines; he told us that it is THE major world problem that we need to solve for World Peace, and he made it clear that it is part of the responsibility of his Ashram. And yet the Bailey

community has still not taken on this work. Many of us still find it difficult to digest what the Tibetan said and apply it to today’s urgent situation, with discrimination and compassion. Till today, this multi-layered glamor remains an impenetrable issue. In terms of karmic responsibility I find it interesting to note that DK’s sphere of influence coincides with the geographical area of this world glamor – Europe and North America. Of course there is also the whole complex Arab factor to consider in this context, but this would exceed the scope of this article. South-America, on the one hand, part of the Western culture, and on the other, quite a distinct entity in itself, has an interesting position regarding the Jewish issue. There is not the usual charge, no strong emotions, no strong opinions; it is not an issue. Most of the spiritual groups I met in Brazil and Bolivia have a strong service orientation; they see their role in supporting others in their work, rather than having their own agenda. I guess this reflects a bit the role of South America at large. They provide many resources, like the rain forests for the whole of the planet. The devic life is so wild and rich, waiting to be used. Also, South-America, with its soft

ray make-up, has a unique gift of living a natural state of harmonious coexistence, ethnically and religiously. It was a healing experience for me to see neighborhoods where Jews and Arabs live together and one can’t distinguish between them. I participated in the national esoteric conference in Bolivia, during which we signed a Declaration of Group Unity between Bolivia, Brazil and Israel. At first I was overwhelmed at the sight of the sizeable Israeli flag which was especially made for the event. (Of course this symbol of Israeli nationality holds all the conflicting energies for me). But as I got used to it, I started to understand the significance of this outer manifestation of our subjective work towards unity. I think it is important at this stage of the esoteric community group process that we develop new forms of applied planetary consciousness. We are the Ajna centre of the planet. We need to open our impersonal planetary eye to help the planetary logos make its step into the Aquarian age. We need to train ourselves to see larger patterns within the planetary field. I think that the combination of learning scientific planetary

subjective work together, while finding ways to ground it in the physical plane, even in symbolic ways, is now at the heart of the esoteric group effort. I close with a lovely simple planetary picture painted with the energies of Aquarius and the 7th Ray: After the Bolivian conference we visited the Titicaca Lake, the highest body of water on the

breaking through in China: The China we as travelers from Scandinavia experienced during the last 3 weeks is quite a different China than it was just 20 years ago. Our guides were free of Chinese norms in their thinking, that they

fully resembled young people from Northern Europe. In the universities of Shanghai it is as common with discussions, differences in opinions, and working in groups as it is in universities in Northern Europe. Family structures are breaking down faster in the larger cities in China than when the same shift happened in the western countries, and even the national TV creates programs with young people who promote themselves to get a date on live TV.

• Technological and economical enterprise creates a global mentality: All the big players from the United States, Europe, Japan and Korea were participating in the technological shopping center with hundreds of computer models and cell phone-models within a few hundred meters. The consciousness filling the air in such places are not in the least politically correct or Chinese in any way, it is so curious, innovative, communicative and

focused on experiences that it will influence the very soul of the Chinese people in a global direction and toward the understanding that it is not the nation but its people who are of central importance.

• The Chinese people are kind, helpful, curious and obliging: This was the biggest and most fundamental experience for all of us. We lived in 6 different cities, we traveled on 3 different trains, and on the Chinese National Day we were probably the only foreigners, together with 10.000 Chinese citizens, on one of China's sacred mountains. Everywhere we were greeted with smiles, kindness, helpfulness and desires to communicate. And with a population like this human values cannot be suppressed. And in a population like this, the manipulative nationalism will not be favored.

• Education creates awareness: The level of education is on the rise in these decades, and experience shows that an educated population has

critical questions and demands individual freedom.

• Goals of technocracy and economy are replaced by goals of awareness and well-being: The members of the present government in China is composed of people educated within technocracy and economy, who naturally consider economic growth as their primary goal, and who have created impressive results considering the challenges. The evolution will create new generations of leaders who prioritize human well-being and diversity as soon as poverty in China is eradicated and the nation has achieved respect in world society.

• An authoritarian government has the possibilities of eradicating poverty and shiftinf to green values: In reality the authoritarian China has proven to be much more efficient in reducing poverty than the so-called democracies in India and the Philippines. During the

past 10 years the percentage of the Chinese population existing below the global poverty line has been reduced from 25% to 4%. And one could ask whether this progress is more valuable than the right to vote and express oneself freely in India when the so called democracy in India does virtually nothing to change the condition of poverty. Similarly India is overflowing with plastic bags, while these are barely seen in China. Windmills, solar collectors and solar-energy plants are growing rapidly in China at the same time as half of the scooters we noticed are driven by electricity, while other large cities in Asia are filled with noise and fumes from 2-wheeled vehicles driven by petrol.

Optimism based on spiritual understanding

• 1st. ray can be a ray for life and 3rd. Ray can expand as diversity and the Holy Spirit: In our experience the soul-ray of China will not be

so much as a masculine center of power in the future, but more as a transforming and magical energy that attracts as life, dissolving the glamour of matter and materialism and as a unity reaching out to the whole of humanity. And the possibilities of the 3rd. ray will, to a larger extent than before, express itself as qualities of the Holy Spirit, the diversity and sacred life.

• China has many spiritual treasures from the past: During our stay we especially devoted ourselves to the wisdom of Lao Tse and Confucius, and we discovered that they both have infused the Chinese soul of the people with qualities of impersonality, humility and non-action combined with high ethics and helpfulness. This imbedded training and attitude towards life can balance the powers in China who do not respect human rights. And during the last decade the Chinese philosophy is being drawn forth from a century of oblivion.

• China will yet again blossom as the Land of the Sun: Time and time again we received inspiration that China is standing before a new golden age with solar-resurrection, beauty and human well-being, gender-equality and divine cooperation.

• China’s missions is a 3rd. Way: From several different sources we receive inspiration during these years that China is chosen to create a 3rd. Way between capitalism and socialism, and between a democratic form of governing to what can be called a meritocracy. This model has councils of educated people with special expert knowledge who guide on many levels in society rather than elected politicians who depend upon popularity and elections. Here we can compare the ease with which a Chinese government creates green technology and free healthcare and the difficulties of an elected president in the same areas in the United States. The 3rd. way is optimal only if its

leaders are idealists and listen to the people.

• The plan is that the new leaders value human well-being: According to our inspirations in China the inner plan is that the next generations of leading councils in China will be characterized by younger people who have visited the West, and who possess natural values as human rights and well-being for all.

• The Chinese soul of the people is like a river: 19 years ago I spoke with a professor at the Institute of Confucius in Beijing about oppression of the values of the initiated and about the situation of philosophy in China. His reaction toward my hint of criticism of the government was: ”The Chinese soul of the people is like a river winding through century after century. On its way the rulers seek to influence it in many different directions, but the river always ends up absorbing the new colours.” In other words: Do not fear the imbalances of the presence, the soul of the people is healthy and

deep and it wins. And even if certain human rights are suppressed these decades, then it is not a fundamental problem in China.

a majority of 34.7 % of the votes in the local elections and thus became the biggest party in Reykjavik. Jon Gnarr Kristinsson, the new mayor in town, has on his CV: stand-up comedian, actor and radio-host – and now mayor! The Best Party differs a lot from what we have seen before. Most of the other members are artists and therefore in contact with new ideas, which is very obvious in the goals of the party. It started as a JOKE, with an idea, with love for one’s town, with love for one’s country.

That joke became serious when the citizens, very unexpectedly, turned their hopeful faces towards The Best Party. It was a desperate action to take such a radical decision, to give your vote to something so fundamentally different, but it was also a decision that the old had to go to make space for the new. It was not because the party promised the earth, it was because it touched something in the population, which it was ready to receive, in desperation. The mission of The Best Party is among other things to eliminate fear and anger from society and to create a platform which facilitates a different kind of dialogue! They have decided always to be helpful and accommodating and always to strive to find positive solutions in all cases. They work very consciously from the creative thought and from positive energy, to be optimistic rather than pessimistic. They strive to see possibilities rather than limitations! The Best Party takes responsibility for the whole and includes nature. I would like to give an example of this. In the Danish newspaper ,Politiken, Jon Gnarr says: ‘We have exceptional possibilities to create something truly unique, because we are placed close to the edge

of the wilderness, which is not easy to find in Europe. And which, due to rapid climate changes, becomes more and more exposed at this time. Because of the changes, icebergs from Greenland come to Iceland more often, and with them also polar bears. Last year three polar bears arrived in this way, and as the law dictates, they were shot and killed with a rifle. I think that is sad. Next time a polar bear arrives in Iceland, we are going to receive it in a very friendly way. We will attempt to find the resources and the technology to catch it alive and to have some kind of facility in the zoo, where it can live.’ He comes up with more fine ideas about constructing an area in the landscape, where polar bears can live in peace and quiet, and Iceland is big enough for that! From what goes on in Iceland I can see the creative energy all over, it assists in lifting the consciousness of the population from the level of greed to the level of ideas and in that way to create new possibilities to live in a different way. Suddenly when everything collapses it becomes possible to think in new ways. That is what it takes. With its 300.000 inhabitants living on the island, Iceland is a small country. Iceland is known for its fantastic nature and for its artists.

It is not only Jón Gnarr, the new Mayor of Reykjavik, who has been visible in national and international politics, it is also Björk who is world famous for her music. Björk is now on a mission to save the natural resources in her country, Iceland, from investors, who she suspects, will exploit the financial crisis in Reykjavik. For a long time I have been following the development going on in Iceland, and I am convinced that if it goes the right way and the population uses the resources at its disposal, something quite unique will emerge from which other countries can learn a lot. It is extraordinary that in such a small country as Iceland, where we live consciously next to our neighbours, elves, trolls and lives from the inner dimensions, and where more than half of the population is innovative and creative, that exactly there the biggest catastrophe happens, that the whole country collapses and that the possibility to create something new materialises. It will be exciting to follow what happens in the near future. It is obvious that all Icelanders are forced to wake up and to act, and it is interesting that the artists are doing it first. They take responsibility for the country

because of their love for it, and because of the creative energy they live in. The creative energy has always been present everywhere in Iceland, and the link between nature, the nature elements and the human being has always been strong. For centuries we have cooperated with devas and elves, but now the time has come to think on a larger scale to influence the whole world, because what happens in Iceland has the attention of the whole world. It is my hope that the hard time my people are experiencing will contribute to creating something which will be of use to everybody, in small and in bigger ways anywhere in the world. Each time a human being strives towards the beautiful or the good, in the form of a painting, a sculpture, a song, a silence, politics, a thought, new ideas - or a wish - for oneself, one’s family, for one’s town, for one’s country, for Mother Earth or for the Universe, this human being becomes equal to the Angels of God’s Hand

war planets Pluto and Mars, transmits the 4th ray of harmony through conflict, the soul ray of humanity.

Uranus is the ruler of the sacral chakra and transmits the 7th ray of organisation, ritual and magic, which is a very powerful ray influence in America, as it is the exoteric ruler of Aquarius, which is the Ascendant in the soul chart of the United States, where the 7th ray will become the dominant ray during the next 2000 years (Destiny of the Nations, 69). Therefore it is the soul purpose of the United States to create a new civilisation, which will become the prevailing one during the age of Aquarius, where democracy, freedom, the international factory organisation, globalisation, space

travel, computer technology, youth culture and its music are new archetypes, originating in the USA, which have already reached most of the world. As the esoteric teacher and writer Kathleen Newburn has pointed out, it has been the task of France – which has Pisces as the Ascendant in its soul chart – to manifest the ideals and the culture which have been dominant in the age of Pisces, now drawing to a close. Jupiter, the planet for freedom, ethics and moral, law and politics, was as esoteric ruler of the Sun – and Ascendant sign Aquarius, an expression of the love and purpose of the soul. Therefore the movement or transit of the planet Jupiter through the Zodiac, which lasts 12 years, is of particular importance to the understanding of the manifestation of Abraham Lincoln’s unfolding soul purpose. Jupiter was in the 1st house in Pisces, the sign related to suppression, illusions, slavery and double standards, and it was conjunct Pluto , which as esoteric ruler in Pisces transmits the 1st ray, representing will, purpose and power. Jupiter rules the heart chakra and transmits the 2nd ray soul, of love and wisdom, of the USA – in all likelihood Abraham Lincoln’s personality ray. As Abraham Lincoln had the Sun in Aquarius, which is the Ascendant in the soul chart of the USA, and as his personality ray was the same as the soul ray of the nation, he was able to channel the soul purpose of the USA via his personality and, with skill in action, realize this successfully. He received the inspiration from the soul of the nation, which necessitated The American Civil War 1861-1865 and which led to the abolition of slavery and maintained USA as a national unity. Alice Bailey calls Abraham Lincoln and the German chancellor Otto Von Bismarck racial avatars, whose appearance is evoked by the genius and destiny of the race. These racial avatars often emerge at the founding of a nation. Bismarck and Lincoln are examples of the most powerful avatars which humanity itself has produced. “Such a man was Abraham Lincoln, coming forth from the very soul of a people, and introducing and transmitting racial quality – a quality to be

Life and Career When Abraham Lincoln was in his 20s, he was taller and stronger than most and had an ability to encourage and inspire others to find their own positive, friendly and loving sides by demonstrating an empathy which made others do their best. Lincoln was a bookworm who read many different things, but who was highly impressed by reading about George Washington’s life, particularly his big venture when crossing the Delaware River to take Trenton in December 1776. Lincoln became a lawyer and

politician at the same time, where he, in vain, tried to become elected into the legislative assembly in Illinois in 1830, when Uranus, the atmic planet of the chart, was conjunct Chiron in Aquarius in the 12th house. When Uranus was conjunct the Sun he finally got elected into the legislative assembly in Illinois in 1834, where he sat until 1841, when Uranus was conjunct Jupiter. In 1836, where he was re-elected for the Whig party and passed his law studies and became an advocate, Saturn was conjunct Uranus at the end of the year. Lincoln was a member of the Whig party until he became a member of the Republican Party in 1856, when Uranus entered Cancer and Jupiter transited Venus, ruler of the 9th house, in Aries. In 1839 Lincoln met Mary Todd at a ball in Springfield in Illinois, where Uranus was conjunct the Mercury/Pluto conjunction in Pisces and Jupiter with Mars in Libra. In many ways they were opposites; he was tall, thin and brooding, while she was round, small, extrovert and vivacious. He had a simple taste, she had an expensive one. With Mars in Libra in the 8th house he tried to

control his feelings, while she, with her explosive temper, gave hers free expression. They were both interested in poetry and politics and took an immediate liking to each other. But as their relationship was precarious and declining, Lincoln broke off with her in the beginning of 1841, when Uranus was conjunct Jupiter. After the break he slid into one of the worst depressions in his life, which incidentally was characterised by many mood changes and emotional ups and downs. After 18 months inner struggle he succeeded in conquering his demons, where after he returned to Mary during the summer of 1842. When Lincoln decided to stand for elections for the American Congress in the beginning of 1846, Uranus was conjunct Venus, and he was elected in November in the same year when Saturn was conjunct the Sun. In the 1830s and 40s Lincoln became involved in the issue of slavery and was against its expansion to the new Western territories, but was willing to let it continue in the South. He started discussing these questions in public in 1856, when Jupiter, the ruler of the

Ascendant and the esoteric ruler of the Sun sign, was conjunct Mercury, Pluto and Jupiter, in Pisces in the 1st house. In the spring of 1860 he was nominated as presidential candidate at the Republican Party convention in Chicago, when the Ascendant was opposing Uranus, and he won the elections in November at the time of the conjunction between Uranus and the IC. With the Republicans in power in Washington, the South where the majority supported the Democratic Party, began to withdraw from the Union of the United American States and organised their own formation of state, which they called the Confederation. Lincoln could have recognized the Confederation and avoided the war, but decided to keep the Union and subsequently war broke out between the Northern and Southern States on the 21st of April 1861. In the beginning it was difficult for Abraham Lincoln to get used to administering the high post, but during 1862 he grew into a very efficient war president. On the 1st of January 1863 a proclamation came into force, where all slaves were given their freedom in the slave states which rebelled against the United States

in the South; at that time Jupiter, the ruler of the Ascendant and the esoteric ruler of the Sun sign, was conjunct Mars and progressed MC was conjunct the Moon, the hierarchical ruler of the Sun sign.

When Jupiter was conjunct Uranus, Abraham Lincoln held one of his most famous speeches at the inauguration of the churchyard in Gettysburg in November 1863. At Gettysburg the most important battle of the civil war had taken place in July that year; the Northern states had lost 45.000 men and Robert E.Lee, the General of the Southern states, had lost 1/3 of his army. Here Lincoln was quoting from the American declaration of Independence that “all men are born equal” and made it clear that “all men” in reality meant all, regardless of skin colour.

enlightenment, a higher planetary consciousness and the people whose collective responsibility it is to attain this level require careful education. The rest of the book is devoted to an analysis of the kind of enlightenment that is required and the processes that nations may adopt, the issues to be considered in expressing the Soul of a nation as opposed to its external personality. Focusing largely on developing nations in Africa, Juwe makes much weather out of the spiritually disruptive impact of the colonial and neo-colonial exposure of these nations, and how they can begin to reflect the major “Rays” which govern the more developed nations. The mystical and ontological foundation of Juwe’s analysis is bound to be controversial. It does not quite address the practical questions: When is a nation? Or: why do nations fail, even supposedly developed nations? The God-argument is almost invariably a tricky deus ex machina. What really is the mind of God? But his analysis and prescriptions in Chapters Two to Fourteen, with special focus on Nigeria, are more earth-bound and therefore, less problematic.

Nation Building Review continued. After the Northern states had won the civil war in 1865, Lincoln and his wife Mary were at the theatre on the 14th of April, when a certain John Wilkes Booth suddenly jumped up and with a single shot hit Lincoln in the head, from behind. Lincoln never regained consciousness and died in a house opposite the theatre the following day at 10.15 PM. At the same time Saturn transited Scorpio and the 8th house, the domain of death in the chart, on its way to conjoin Mars, while Neptune was conjunct Venus, the ruler of the 8th house.

Conclusion When the atmic planet of the chart, Uranus, was conjunct the asteroid Chiron in 1830, Abraham Lincoln initiated his political career officially. When Uranus was conjunct the Sun in 1834, he was elected into the legislative assembly in Illinois, where he remained until 1841, when Uranus was conjunct Jupiter. When he stood for elections for the American Congress in 1846, Uranus was conjunct Venus, and when he was elected President of the United States in 1860, Uranus was conjunct IC. **************

The areas of intervention for nation-building, Juwe points out are as follows: Governance, education, eradication of poverty and hunger, agriculture, social infrastructure, services and population issues, building peace and security, rule of law and violence prevention, sustainable development and sustainable living, the Psychological rehabilitation of nations, and the role of the United Nations in Nation Building. The author places special accent on the United Nations, and indeed in the Appendix to the book, he reproduces a number of documents on international co-operation, but his primary concern it can be seen, is how nations, particularly Nigeria can achieve development goals for the benefit of the citizenry.

His analysis of the Nigerian condition is forthright. In each chapter, he provides very detailed recommendations on the possible ways forward. Juwe is an optimist and his passion for Nigeria is

unmistakable, but the issues that he raises are familiar. They are the stuff of a continuing assessment of Nigeria’s place in the world and the alienation between state and citizen in the country. But the central question in relation to this over-analysed subject remains this: How? How can religion be transformed into a positive value in Nigeria, into an approach to God, instead of a vehicle of violence and strife? How do we groom a new generation of enlightened leaders who will be committed to service, not privilege? Can it even be said that Nigerians are not aware of the Divine plan, given the number of churches and mosques in the land? The author recommends the “invocation of the soul of the nation” through meditation and prayers. Nigerians are forever praying. Where then does the problem lie? Is it that Nigerians do not know how to pray? Or that they do not pray enough? Or do they need to be taught how to pray? Is neighbouring Ghana now a better country because it is a nation that prays and meditates? Juwe also talks about the reign of evil. Can this be traced also to man’s basic instinct to dominate his environment, something that is also ontological? He describes the United Nations as ”the seed for the eventual emergence of one

humanity” and “a centre for harmonizing the action of nations” (p.214). The United Nations and its many institutions continue to be criticized for promoting inequities in the world and there is ample evidence in this regard. However, for the most part, Juwe deals with principles, philosophies and ideals, and in dreaming about a world of synthesis, in which “the power of light and goodwill” will permeate the world of men, he provides an inspirational basis for hope in a world of constant change and uncertainty. He is not dogmatic. He admits that “nation building is not an easy task”. (p. 210). And in response to the cynicism of the average Nigerian who has long concluded that “we are a wasted generation”, Juwe says “positive change is still possible, desirable, and imperative, what is needed is the collective will of the people and their leaders to tackle these rather elusive and pervasive problems, knowing that there are no other viable options for building a sustainable society and ensuring sustainable development of our nation for this and future generations. There is nowhere to run; as a people we must change our value system and our perception of life through better understanding and appreciation of the value of the individual

human being and the interrelatedness and interdependence of all people and all nations of the world.” The author’s message about the urgency of change is in order; his insistence that nations must aspire to greater heights on the evolutionary chain is unexceptionable. In the end, though, it would appear that the key to the Divine Plan lies in men themselves, in their ability to translate the more practical details of the author’s analysis into measurable development outcomes. And if religion is useful in nation building as he insists, the ultimate challenge would be in finding a special correspondence between private and public morality. It is a strange paradox, (isn’t it?,) that it is precisely in those African counties where religion is so popular, that evil reigns most supreme. In Nation Building: Working With the Divine Plan, Juwe confronts both citizens and leaders with the realities and the challenges of our lives; he provides useful reference materials for researchers, he links the spiritual to the practical, he defines God-man relations, and the oneness of Humanity. His book is a subtle reminder of the many questions of nation-building that should be addressed by developing nations in search of peace and progress. It is worth reading.

The WSI is an international network of Ageless Wisdom groups committed to developing intergroup contact, cooperation and synthetic, subjective work. The purpose of the WSI is to develop a worldwide body of esoteric groups that function as a unified field under Hierarchical impression from the Christ and the Ashram of Synthesis to provide an instrument for actively supporting the Reappearance and implementing the Living Plan in the world.

Members of the World Service Intergroup who are helping prepare for this reappearance are educational and meditation groups located around the world who study and honor all of the great spiritual teachings of the ages, especially the more modern presentations by H.P. Blavatsky, Alice Bailey, Helena Roerich, Lucille Cedercrans and other teachers of the Ageless Wisdom.
