ABOUT

Spacemaile by Kaynemaile mesh offers structural performance by using engineering grade polycarbonates, making it suitable for extremely high-wearing environments such as schools, airports, bars and public spaces; it has even been tested as a shark net.

MaterialSpacemaile is created with a traditional European chainmail assembly and produced via a continuous injection moulding process, forming a 3D impact-absorbing structure made up of solid rings with no joins or seams. The mesh is made from a recyclable self-extinguishing, fire resistant and UV stabilised high-spec polycarbonate making it virtually impossible to scratch or damage. It is easy to handle on site with no special protection required and will not rust in corrosive environments.

ManufacturingThe patented manufacturing process of Spacemaile offers unlimited sheet sizes/dimensions, using a wide range of UV stabilised colours, resulting in a clean monolithic look and a faster more affordable installation.

Quality materialsSpacemaile is created with stainless steel hardware and components, so it won’t corrode; won’t go brittle and gives a 20+ year expected durability, backed by a 10-year warranty. Environmentally considerate With only one eighth the embodied energy of equivalent metal meshes, Spacemaile is better for our environment. It is 100% recyclable with a nil-waste production method. Its lightweight and compact properties offer efficient cartage options.

SavingsSpacemaile is only 15% the weight of equivalent stainless steel mesh; so it requires less supporting structure and can make significant budget savings. Because it is highly flexible, achieving curves and organic forms is super easy, and won’t cost you more than a straight screen.

HANGING SCREENS

Spacemaile Hanging Screens are a simple ceiling-hung solution often used to divide interior spaces, create visual privacy or as a backdrop for signage or displays in retail and hospitality. They are perfect for wrapping internal columns and turning them into a feature.

FeaturesHanging Screens can add depth, a tactile texture and visual interest in front of a solid wall or glazing. The weight of the mesh is sufficient in most circumstances to hold the screen vertical and even. Unlike a traditional fabric curtain, the mesh is generally not affected by drafts, air conditioning or breezes.

Key features include:• Weight: At only 3kg m² (0.6lbs/ft2) the

hanging screens can be easily retrofitted to existing spaces, usually without additional structural support being required.

• Sizes: Unlimited in size.• Custom shapes: Curves are easily

accommodated without extra costs.• Hanging Screens are a non-movable

screen.

InstallationSpacemaile Hanging Screens include all hardware, accessories and mesh for a complete install. The installation process is similar to installing a traditional fabric curtain and can be carried out by a competent tradesperson with basic tools. Heavy lifting equipment is not normally required.

TENSION SCREENS

Spacemaile Tension Screens are a robust, hard-wearing, rigid system, designed to be tensioned between the floor and ceiling. Tension Screens are ideal to use as floor to ceiling balustrades, security screening, green walls, screening for stairwells, lift shafts and most safety-from-falling applications.

Features• Sizes: Unlimited in overall size, with no joins

or seams, spans floor to ceiling, no need for any additional posts, columns or structure.

• Custom shapes: Curves and organic shapes are easily accommodated.

• Durability: The mesh doesn’t show dirt or scratches like acrylic panels and because of its flexural impact absorbing nature it doesn’t dent on impact like steel meshes.

InstallationSpacemaile Tension Screens include all hardware, accessories and mesh. Installation can be carried out by a competent tradesperson with basic tools. Full installation instructions are provided. Unlike glass, metal mesh and other panel products, the final dimensions can be adjusted on site during installation.

FOLDING SCREENS

12

Spacemaile Folding Screens are an operable or moveable screen, which means they are ideal for creating functional separation of large halls, bars and clubs or even in open-plan offices where intermittent screening is required. The Folding Screen solution is a result of numerous requests for a traditional concertina or movable ‘curtain’ using our hardwearing seamless Architectural Mesh. With the addition of coloured lighting, it easily becomes an elegant long-lasting feature.

FeaturesFolding Screens come with a stainless steel folding hanger system making the screen easy to manoeuvre and handle by anyone.• Size: Unlimited in overall size, with no seams.• Operation: Smooth, effortless hand

operation, even screens over 6m high by 20+ metres in length can be deployed by one person.

• Stack ratio: Incredibly low stack ratio of 10:1.• Accessories: An optional dropper system

to suspend the roller track below uneven ceilings, beams or building services is available. Due to the behaviour of hanging mesh, traditional curtain track systems are not suitable. Folding screens are our premium product. Where a screen does not need to move, specify Spacemaile Hanging Screens.

InstallationSpacemaile Folding Screens include all sliding hardware, tracks, seamless mesh and a position locking handle. Installation can be done by any competent tradesperson using basic tools. Full installation instructions are provided.

FIXED-FRAME SCREENS

1616

Fixed-Frame Screens are suitable to fit into joinery, windows or wall openings where a more open look than Tension Screen is required.

Features• Appearance: The Fixed-Framed Screens

are the only standard solution that uses our mesh in ‘open state’. This state of the mesh gives an open look, with around 50% visual transparency compared to Spacemaile Screens which uses ‘closed state’ mesh at 20% visual transparency.

• Size: Maximum approximately 3m x 6m.• Suitable: For fitting onto accurate window

frames or door frames of bespoke furniture or joinery.

CUSTOM CEILINGS

Spacemaile creates seamless mesh suspended ceilings that maintain open access, whilst incorporating a visual barrier to overhead utilities. The Spacemaile custom ceiling solution maintains 86% airflow; therefore it will not impact on the functionality of building sprinkler systems.

Due to the airflow that it provides, custom ceilings is also safe for applications where this is important, such as laboratories, shopping malls, airports or offices. Maintenance is also easy with total access through the the custom ceiling cavity into the above utilities.

The Spacemaile custom ceiling solution is available in any colour from the Spacemaile colour collection, or custom colours can also be created to meet the needs of your project.

Well-positioned lighting is a successful and cost-effective way to add value to your mesh installation. A unique combination of reflection and refraction of light allows the mesh to take on a defused colour or reflect a point source light. The colour and position of lighting is important to the overall effect.

Colour/temperature• A cool blue lighting system is often used to

achieve a modern fresh look, as it emphasises the reflective glass-like qualities of the seamless mesh.

• A warm yellow lighting system will create a more subtle effect, as it decrease reflectivity and adds a warm yellow hue to the mesh.

• Full colour-controlled RGB LEDs gives a space an evolving mood lighting element, which is suited to hospitality and foyer applications.

• Water Clear screens can naturally allow the ambient light to tint the screen for you, as the mesh has subtle chameleon-like qualities.

Positioning• LED strip lighting running parallel to the

mesh surface is ideal when an edge halo of colour is desired.

• Directional halogen spots, set back from the mesh and casting across the surface, is an excellent way to boost that reflective glass-like quality of the mesh.

• Daylight is another lighting element that can work well for you. Unlike most fabrics our mesh can be used in windows and brightly lit environments.

The mesh also works very well as a projection screen, especially when a large-scale screen or surface is required or as an external projection screen. The mesh can be either rear projected or front projected.

Test Result

Flammability ISO 9705 Pass Result 1S. Flame-Resistant Polycarbonate (FRPC). Standard result – UL94 V-O at 3mm, rated ‘self-extinguishing’. FRPC seamless mesh has been tested to:

• AS 1530 pt2, achieving a Flammability Index result of (FI) = 6

• NFPA- 701 Test Method #2 – Pass

• DIN 4102.2 – Pass

• AS/NZS 1530.3-1999: Smoke Developed Index (SDI) = 1

Detailed test results and certificates available on the Austaron website.

Sunlight (UV) and exterior weathering

Independently lab tested by Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ). Results show minimal structural/tensile deterioration of the mesh after 2000 hours of continuous testing (equivalent to approximately 5+ years exterior exposure in New Zealand’s harshest UV conditions – some of the toughest in the world. All colours are light fastened, mineral-based pigments to maintain colour and recyclability.

Detailed test results and certificates available on the Austaron website.

Tensile strength and Impact resistance

Note: The accumulated strength of seamless mesh increases proportionately with the size of the panel. Astron burst testing with a point load area of approx. 32mm on small 140 x 140mm samples show a peak resistance of 279kg.

When drop testing on to a 1.5m x 2.4m mesh panel, it repetitively withstood a free-falling 80kg (175lb) weight from 2.5 metres. This equates to an impact force of 6500N (650kg).

Suitable for use as balustrade infill to New Zealand Building Code NZBC F4 safety from falling. Exceeds required strength loads prescribed in AS/NZS 1170.1 for balustrades including C5 Crowd loadings. Detailed test results available on the Austaron website.

Drag coefficient (used for calculating wind loadings)

Cd = 0.8, which is 40% less than an equivalent two-dimensional or woven mesh Full wind tunnel test results for all angles available.
