FY 2018 Awards

SBIR Awards: 304 Phase I and 145 Phase IISTTR Awards: 44 Phase I and 20 Phase II awards

FY 2019-2020:• Topics increasingly aligned to Exploration Campaign

technology focus areas• Competing centralized contract for discretionary technical

assistance vendor to provide business assistance to Phase II awardees.

• NASA will pilot, starting with STTR program, making Phase II sequential awards for technologies that need additional development funding at Phase II before they are ready for matching funding from potential customers.

• With extension to authority for use of 3% administrative funding, NASA will continue commercialization assistance programs:

• i-Corps training grants to Phase I awardees; • Civilian Commercialization Readiness Pilot Program

(CCRPP) provides additional SBIR/STTR matching funding for post Phase II technology development with significant customer pull).

Presentation Notes
Annual Solicitation Phase I awards Phase II proposed 6 months later for SBIR and 13 months for STTR Contract funded from tations for Phsources other than the SBIR/STTR programs and may be awarded without further competition. Made In Space successfully deployed its Zero-G Printer, the Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF), and became the first company to manufacture in zero gravity. Brine Processor Assembly (BPA)

• Paragon Space Development Corporation, a small business headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, is developing a system that will increase overall life support systems water recovery from astronaut urine aboard the International Space Station.

• An ISS technology demonstration is scheduled to launch in 2019. This experiment will verify that the BPA is capable of increasing ISS water recovery from ~80% to ~98%, a necessary milestone in order to enable long-duration space exploration beyond low earth orbit.

Scroll Compressor for MOXIE on Mars 2020

• MOXIE is an ISRU technology demonstrator that will extract O2 and CO from CO2, the main component in Martian air. It’s a 1:200 scale model of a unit that would generate propellant for a crewed Mars Ascent Vehicle.

• The first step in O2 generation is collection and compression of the atmosphere. Air Squared, a small business in Broomfield, CO, is supplying a scroll compressor for this purpose.

• This custom version of the P11H024A-BLDC-SH single-stage scroll vacuum pump will fly on Mars 2020.
