This year was a special one, the kind that doesn't occur very often, every 50 years to be exact. This year is the 50th year of the annual Salone Mobili, or as we all know it Milan fair. The scope and the level of creativity that emerged from the fair this year is nothing ordinary, in coordination with the fair itself the city underwent an evolution, and transformed itself entirely into a design city. The sensation is difficult to explain, I myself have attended the fair in 2009 and last year for a tour de force of the design scene in 2010, traveling around the northern part of Milan where all the manufacturers are (Brianza, Cantu, Como, Misinto, etc) and to find myself in a world of design / brand / business and to realize that all these years in the field and I am just at the tip of the iceberg. Italy’s sensation of soccer and design doesn’t come from just their nationality – but it is something that has been embedded in the way they live. Going to Milan for the entire duration of the fair would only make you feel like you’ve only climbed half the Himalayas (albeit a very satisfying one). I think it’s impossible to give our readers the whole ordeal of what exactly went on at the fair, but we can give you a decent run through of what we think is awesome. This whole issue is dedicated to the new products from the fair, and you will notice the effort and creativity that is necessary to bring so many products out for production.
