Visit Place: Kalptaru Krishi Mandal, Bhivdhanora- Gangapur

Bhivdhanora: Total population: 4000 Total Area under cultivation: 1094 Ha Total no of farmers: 1300-1400. Major Kharip Crops: Cotton, Sugarcane, Soybean. Major Rabbi Crops: Wheat, Gram. Irrigation facilities: Boar wells, Wells, Back water of Jaikwadi Dam. Method of irrigation: flood, rain fed irrigation. Drip and Sprinkler irrigation: 1-2% of total area. Reasons: Salty water, investment cost of drip/sprinkler is higher and thus

it increases overall production cost and farmers don’t have access of credit facilities for the same.

MACP, Aurangabad identified this place (catchment of Lasur Station-APMC) for Soybean demonstrations. Farmers’ meeting was held and concept of the project and demonstrations were explained.

Concept of group formation was explained and promoted through initial training.

Farmers were selected in such a way that selection would benefit to socially backward classes.

Technology demonstrated is explained later in the report. Concept of Agri Business Promotion Facility (ABPF) under component ‘B’

was explained to farmers by MART officers and farmers groups have taken a leased land from Grampanchayat for formation of Farmers Common Service Center.

Total No of Demonstrations: 91 Acres Total expenditure: Rs.2.73 Lakhs. Total No of beneficiaries : 91 Critical Inputs: Improved variety, fertilizers etc. (Kit attached with

this report) Variety: Market driven variety: JS-335(Foundation Seed- MAHABEEJ)

1 Selection of Farmers Promoted group farming approach and groups were registered under ATMA agency

2 Farmers Training (Before Sowing)

Yes. Date of training: 3/07/2012

3 Seed Treatment Specially prepared liquid seed treatment material Rizophos was used.

4 Sowing Date 10-20 July 2012.Block level officers and Agri Marketing Expert remained present on some plots for guiding farmers on sowing activity. It was insured that sowing on right time, right spacing. Tractor driven seed drill was used in 50% of the plots.

5 Critical Inputs Seed, Fertilizers-SSP, VSI Multi-micronutrient Spray, Seed treatment material, Quinolphos,

6 INM/IPM Approach Yes. Use of effective seed treatment material has saved fertilizers and crop condition was found better even in draught conditions. Also liquid micronutrient was sprayed to ensure better quality of produce.Bird perches were also erected and Maize was used as a trap crop.

7 Field Day 09 Oct 2012.8 Market Linkages Farmers aggregated their produce and sold

it to local trader after they received an advice on when to sell from MACP Aurangabad. They received Rs 900/- more per quintal.

Impact of INM/IPM Approach:

Use of Seed Treatment Material: A Liquid Rizophospho (bio-fertilizer) was used for seed treatment (snap 2). It helps plants to uptake more amount of nitrogen and also it increases the root nodules of plant and fixes atmospheric nitrogen (up to 25%) to make available to the plants. The phosphobacteria converts the non-available form of phosphorus in the soil into available form to the plants (25%). All the farmers observed that due to use of seed treatment material they saved extra fertilizer application and also they found plant health better than its control plot even in draught condition.

Use of Multi-micronutrient (liquid): A liquid micronutrient (5 Liter) was distributed as a part of INM demonstration. This helped farmers to increase their yield with least chemical residual impact on soil. Liquid micronutrient was sprayed on leaves, which ultimately had very low residual effects on soil. Many farmers observed that color of soybean leaves (demonstration plot) was lust green when compared with control plots. This indicates that use of multi micronutrient has a significant impact on Soybean crop (snap 6 & 7). Also there was increase in yield of Soybean demonstration plot. Following are contents of multi micronutrient:

Iron Manganese Zinc Copper Molybdenum Boron2.5% 1.0% 3.0% 1.0% 0.1% 0.5%

Integrated Pest Management: Use of disease tolerant varieties: A disease tolerant variety JS-335 was used

for demonstration purpose. Use of intercrop: Packets of Maize seed were distributed among the farmers.

This maize crop played a vital role of Trap Crop in Soybean. Use of Bird Perches: Bird perches are resting places for predatory birds to

rest and to look for preys; such as insect pests of soybean. Predatory birds prefer to look for prey in field crops where they have places to rest. It is one of the economical and environment friendly approaches to control pests. MACP, Aurangabad introduced this concept in this village. Impact observed was demonstration plot was least affected by pests (snap 8, 9 & 10).
