Soweto development contextSoweto development contextToday, Soweto faces many development pressures. The

landscape of Soweto is being altered by large commercial developments. Whilst the historic landscape is being lost to new development, new landmarks associated with the Soweto Uprisings are being developed. Currently, the Johannesburg Roads Agency is undertaking a project to formalise the township’s roads and sidewalks. Part of this process is the paving of the proposed student routes taken on that fateful day, June 16 1976.
