TheHignellCompanieslocatedinNorthernCaliforniahastakenovercontrolmanagingtheSouthsideOrovilleCommunityCenter,previouslymanagedbyButteCounty.Apublicfacilitybeingtakenoverbyaprivatebusinessisamovethatisforeseentobeawin-winforbothpartiesinvolvedbysavingthecountymoneyandprovidingrevenueforthepropertymanagementcompany.

Chico,CA-March31,2012(PRSolutions)--TheHignellCompaniesannouncedithasbeenselectedbytheButteCountyBoardofSupervisorsasthemanagementcompanytotakeovertheSouthsideOrovilleCommunityCentereffectiveMarch1,2012.

"Thepartnershipbetweenagovernmentagencyandaprivatebusinesstokeepacommunityfacilityopencouldsetaprecedent,"saidPhilipLarios,ChiefExecutiveOfficerofTheHignellCompanies."TheButteCountySupervisorstookaboldstandtomakethishappen."

TheHignellCompanies'goalistomakethecenterself-sufficientandself-funding.WiththerecentdangeroffacilitiesandparkslikeBidwellMansionclosing,thehopeisthatprivatebusinesseslikeTheHignellCompanies(http://www.hignell.com)canmanagepublicfacilitiesmoreefficiently.TheHignellCompaniesandtheCountyagreedthatthecenterwouldhavenoimpactoncountyfunds.

TurningovermanagementtoTheHignellCompanieswillsavethecounty$200,000ayear,accordingtoButteCountySupervisorBillConnelly.Thefirstyear,thecountywillpaythecompany$22,000formanagementandthereafterthecenterisexpectedtobeself-sufficientthroughitsfacilityrentals.

TheCenterwillbeoperatedonsitebyDeborahandKevinThompson,whowillbeinchargeofrentingthepublicfacilitiesandcommonareas,suchasthekitchen,multi-purposeroomandconferenceroom,aswellasdailymaintenanceandjanitorial.JohnIler,commercialpropertymanagerforTheHignellCompanieswilloverseetheonsiteteamandmanagecommercialrentals(http://hignell.com/property-management/commercial).GregWietbrock,vicepresidentofpropertymanagementforTheHignellCompanies,willhaveoversightoftheentireproject.
