SOUTHERN AFRICAN JUNIOR MATHEMATICS OLYMPIADS
FEMSISA MATHEMATICS OLYMPIADS
A. ROUND ONE
INFORMATION AND PROCEDURE
1. These Olympiads are for Grades 8-11learners.
2. Round One is free for all learners. This paper must be written by
all learners.
Round One will comprise 20 multiple questions.
3. Each school will receive one copy for each grade. Run out for all
learners.
4. Supply each learner with writing paper.
5. The correct answer must be ringed.
6. Learners must be encouraged to do working in the rough paper .
7. The duration of each paper is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
8. Papers must be marked at the school. The first 15 questions carry
one mark each.
The last 5 questions carry two marks each.
Learners who obtain 7 marks proceed to the final round.
If no learners qualify then the best two learners in each grade
proceed to the next round.
9. The school is encouraged to do an analysis for each grade. This
analysis is for your ‘consumption’.
10. Complete the entry form for the final round qualifiers. An entry
fee of R10 must be paid for each second round qualifier.

B.FINAL ROUND
1. Comprise 20 questions.
2. Non-multiple choice questions.
3. First 15 – 1 mark each. Next 5 – 2 marks each.
4. Papers written at school.
5. Written on 21 August 2014.
6. Papers marked in September.
7. Awards Function in October/November.
8. Medals; certificates and trophies.
9. Certificates awarded as follows:-
Gold: 17+
Silver: 12-16
Bronze: 8-11
Participation: 0-7
10. Duration: Grades 8-11 – 2 hours
