Mayor's Welcome

DEAR FELLOW SOUTH JORDAN NEIGHBORS:
For generations our community has gathered for the annual Country Fest Celebration, with festivities planned for
Thursday, June 5th, Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th. Please, take a moment to browse through this guide for an event(s) that suits you and your family. Let me take a minute to share with you what I love about our City and about Country Fest.
Even though we’ve grown, South Jordan still maintains that small town feel – where neighbors sit o n porches and chat, and friends stop by to help when there is
a need. It’s the people that make South Jordan a great place to live. It’s the volunteer coaches and crossing guards; it’s the friendly folks at the store, and the kids playing at the park that makes this home feel a little more timeless.
South Jordan’s people will always be our greatest asset. Country Fest started as a celebration of the harvest heritage of this area. It was a chance to remember the
good old days of yesteryear and to give thanks for all we enjoy. As neighbors we have much to be thankful for. From the police and firefighters who keep use safe, to the road crews who work in heat and snow to help us get around, to the folks who clean our parks. This is why we have Country Fest – to celebrate the neighbors and friends who make South Jordan a little better every day.
Thanks to all who call South Jordan home and make our community special. Please join in the celebration and let’s celebrate all the good that is South Jordan.
Whether you were born and raised here in South Jordan or are just joining us for a few hours, I welcome you to this year’s Country Fest Where Summer Begins!
Sincerely,
David L. AlvordMayor

ParadeSaturday, June 79:00 AM2200 W thru City Park to Towne Center
Join us on beautiful Towne Center Drive, for the traditional Country Fest Parade. The parade staging area will be located in the Salt Lake County
Equestrian dirt lot. The route will begin on 2200 W and Park Road (the North West entrance to City Park) and run down Park Road, around the Softball fields, to the South along the Skate Park and then turn North on Redwood Road, ending with a final turn onto Towne Center Drive. Everyone is invited, so bring your camp chairs and honor our American Flag, watch the amazingly crafted floats, talented bands and collect candy from the emergency vehicles. You can, also, enjoy a tasty Village Inn Breakfast being served from Fire Station # 61 right on Redwood Road.
Grand Marshalls: Hal and LaRae Naylor
Hal Naylor grew up in South Jordan and LaRae grew up in Magna. They met when Hal’s
parents moved to Magna. They married in 1955 and lived in Magna for two and a half years. They moved to South Jordan where they have lived for 56 years. They have 3 children, Lisa Jensen, Connie Hammer and Tom Naylor. They have 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In 2006 the Historical Society asked Hal if he would help George Thomas put out the flag’s on the Veterans graves due to George’s failing health. George had done this for over 60 years. He asked Hal at that time if he would take over for him. We feel it an honor and privilege to do this for the Veterans who have done so much for us over the years. We know we will not be able to do this for 60 years, but we will as long as we can.
