Population!

● The capitol of South Dakota is Pierre.

● It is in north-central United

States, it is considered in the

Midwest region of the country.

● As of 2013 the population

count was 844,877 people

living in the state.

History● Exploration of this state began in 1743, when

Louis-Joseph and François Verendrye came over from France. They were looking for a new route to the Pacific.

● The U.S. acquired the region as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.

● Fort Pierre, the first permanent settlement, it was established in 1817.

● Tourism is the second largest industry in South

Dakota. In 2006, travelers spent nearly $865

winds, and occasional droughts.
