As she glided to her seat, she made it clear that the cane and chair were not to be a distraction, stating, “It is what it is!” She took her seat, opened to the word from Luke 4:18-20, “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me… to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And He (Jesus) closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and He sat down.” Interesting enough, Jesus didn’t stop speaking after he sat down and neither did Mother McGrew. She opened the words of understanding to all gathered, while sitting at her table, then came down from the pulpit to join Bishop Harper and the men of God, as they anointed all who came forth for their fresh oil anointing. He took us down into Lodebar with King David in his search to find “any of the house of Saul,” so the King could “shew kindness for Jonathan’s sake.” There King David found Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, Saul’s grandson. An Abbreviated Women’s Convention Produced Multiplied Blessings

“Poised to Receive God’s Fresh Anointing,” was the announced themefor the 37th Annual Central Georgia Jurisdictional Women’sConvention and the First Annual South Central Georgia JurisdictionalWomen’s Convention, and so the saints gathered. This announcementalso came with a disclaimer, that this would be an abbreviatedconvention. With this knowledge, we arrived with an expectation toreceive God’s fresh oil anointing, but within a two day convention.

“Fresh,” indicates that something is recently made, new, brisk, bold, lively, cool and refreshing and not tired. How could Webster’sDictionary define the essence of our convention so many years ago with

such true and dynamic descriptions of what took place? I say it had to be a “God idea.” Freshoil anointing, then, denotes the flowing of God’s blessings upon his people. You had to be thereto give the testimony of God’s spectacular grace bestowed during two nights of true praise andworship.

Since this was the “first” women’s convention under the leadership of Bishop Norman O.Harper, a licensing ceremony was held to recertify 235 Evangelist Missionaries and 10Deaconess Missionaries in the new South Central Georgia Jurisdiction. This was not a goodnight for the enemy, but an awesome feat for the Kingdom of God.

Then to drive home the point, Supervisor Edith L. McGrew, set a precedent and presented a realmessage from a “Mother.” A table and chair had been prepared so Mother could sit during hermessage. The Historical Central Georgia Jurisdiction

Though Mephibosheth was lame in his feet, exiled to a place called Lodebar, which meansno pasture or no communication; in other words a place without hope or promise, Godknew where he was all the time, and sent King David to rescue him and give him all theblessings that had be reserved just for him. Bishop Harper declared to us that, “Godknows where you are.” Though we may feel like we are there now or may be headed toLodebar, lost forgotten, or forsaken, God knows each of us by name and is willing andready to deliver us out of all our distresses. What a promise! “Mephibosheth dwelt inJerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table: and was lame in his feet.” WhenGod is for you, there are no limitations that will prevent you from receiving God’s FreshOil Anointing.

Though we furled our banner on Friday night, we were not ready to move on. Saturdaywas the gathering of mothers, daughters, granddaughters and sister-friends for our FirstAnnual Mother Daughter Luncheon. Tickets sold out early leaving some women wanting. Those bless to be in attendance were treated to a day of pure joy. There were prayers, praise medleys, presentations on women’s issues along with great fellowship, door prizes,

and delicious food. One topic was “Mama said there’ll bedays like this, but God…” I think it’s safe to say thatMama couldn’t imagine a convention like we experienced;an abbreviated convention with multiple blessings.” Nowwe can furl our banners until next year. We have taken adeep breath, and will show ourselves strong for our nextventure, the International Women’s Convention Crusade. The oil still flows!
