Day 1You will be welcomed aboard from your centrally located Adelaide accommodation or the Central Bus Station, between 7.30am and 8am.

As we depart Adelaide, you will be introduced to the aboriginal history and European settlement of this beautiful city. Heading north along the eastern side of the Gulf St Vincent, you will be entertained with stories about our early explorers including Matthew Flinders and Nicolas Baudin.

Rounding the tip of the Gulf, our tour takes us past the Hummock Ranges, ancient remains of a great mountain range that once dominated the outback. Travelling south down the western side of the Gulf you will find incredible diversity; from coastal mangroves to one of the richest farming areas in Australia.

Stop at the Ardrossan Country Bakery - famous for its delicious homemade goodies. Take it from us, you won’t be disappointed!

For the next part of our trip we will be joined by a local Aboriginal Traditional Owner. You will be taken on a 2 hour journey of enlightenment; learning about Aboriginal culture, sharing their knowledge and listening to Dreaming stories. Enjoy a walk along a coastal pathway to the Ochre Cliffs and discover coloured clays that have been used in Aboriginal ceremonies for thousands of years. As part of this very special cultural experience, you will be shown things that not many people even know about, including such treasures as an ancient man-made fish trap made of heavy rocks that the Adjahdura people used for thousands of years.

Saying farewell to our Aboriginal friends, we head down the Eastern side of Yorke Peninsula, through one of the best barley growing areas in Australia, an essential component of our outstanding local beers. Enjoy a picnic lunch which offers great coastal views before making our way to the clear blue waters of Spencer Gulf.

Heading south we meander along beautiful coastal tracks and explore a number of small fishing villages. As we near the bottom of the peninsula, we drop our bags at our overnight accommodation and then head off to view some of the most spectacular coastal scenery the world has to offer. White sandy beaches that stretch forever, rolling surf where pods of dolphins can be filmed frolicking amongst the waves, and rugged cliffs that protect the unspoiled beauty of this pristine environment. Back at our lodgings you will be served a wholesome meal and have an opportunity to sample some our fabulous local seafood.

Day 2Enjoy a full day exploring the beauty of Innes National Park - The spectacular and wild coastline of Southern Yorke Peninsula. With its soaring cliffs and magnificent views over Kangaroo Island this National Park is a photographers dream! Walk, swim and explore un-trodden beaches and come face-to-face with the abundant wildlife.

Visit the historic Inneston village and explore the ruins of an abandoned gypsum town along the Inneston Historic Walk. Once home to around 200 people, Inneston was completely self-sufficient, having its own school, post office, bakery, general store.

Over 26 shipwrecks lay off the coast of Innes National Park and the Southern Yorke Peninsula. An interpretive maritime trail along the coastline recounts tales of tragedy, bravery and the final agonizing moments before these ships sank beneath the waves. Visit the rusted relics of the park’s most famous wreck, The Ethel, that came to grief in 1904 when it ran aground near the beach during a severe storm.

Take a short walk to admire the operating lighthouses at Cape Spencer and West Cape. On the horizon is another lighthouse that operates on Althorpe Islands Conservation Park. These lighthouses not only provide safe passage for vessels today, but offer an insight into the area’s maritime heritage.

Innes National Park is one of only a few places in the world where living stromatolites are known to exist. Stromatolites consist of layers of blue-green algae (or cyanobacteria). New layers develop on top, closest to the light, trapping whatever silt may be present. Old layers underneath are impregnated with calcium carbonate and

become fossilised. In this park, the dome-shaped structures occur around the edges of the salt lakes. Carbon dating has indicated some of the stromatolites to be around 3,000 years old.

At the end of the day capture a magical South Aussie sunset as it sets over the ocean.

Day 3No need to hurry. Enjoy a stroll along the spectacular coastline of Spencer Gulf, look for dolphins in the surf or the rare Hooded Plover. Grab a fishing rod (provided) and try the great Australian experience of beach fishing for the sought after King George Whiting or as an optional extra, join our local expert instructor for a surf lesson.

Southern Yorke Peninsula - 3 Day Coastal Wilderness Adventure Small Group Eco Tour - Maximum 16 PassengersComfortable off road vehicle!

In the winter months this coastline is often visited by Southern Right whales and they can be seen from a number of vantage points that we will take you to.

After an exciting morning we will head off and visit the Barley Stacks Winery to enjoy the local drop.

Barley Stacks Winery is the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established on the traditional barley belt of Yorke Peninsula, which is traditionally renowned for growing the world’s best malting barley.

The vineyard was established in 1996 with planting of Shiraz grapes. It then grew as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay were planted in 2000 and finally Viognier grapes planted in 2001.

The rich grey soil over limestone, which produces the famous barley, has also contributed to the production of premium quality fruit.

All wine produced at Barley Stacks Wines is made from grapes grown in their own vineyards, where it is also crushed, fermented, stored, bottled and distributed.

Taste and enjoy the local produce before heading back to the top of the peninsula, passing the ancient Hummock Ranges before a short relaxing trip back to Adelaide, arriving approx. 5pm.
