INSTALLATIONANDREMOVALINSTRUCTIONS:

HDAUDIOINSTALLATIONPRE-REQUIREMENTS

IfyouhaveanHDAudiocodecyouneedtoinstallaQFEtoallowtheSoundMAXaudiodriverinstallationtohappen.ThisQFEismadeavailablebyMicrosoft,anditisrequiredtoupdateOperatingSystemcomponentsbeforeinstallingtheaudiodriver.TheQFEcontainstherequiredfilesandareadmewhichoutlinesinstallationprocedure.ThisQFEandthesefilesaredistributedbyMicrosoftonly,pleasecontactthemdirectlyifyouneedtogetthem.

InstallationorUpdateofAnalogDevicesSoundMAXAudioDriver

NOTE:Removeanypreviouslyinstalleddriverusingtheinstructionsinthenextsection.

1.Fromthetaskbar,clickonStart->Run.

2.IntheRundialogbox,typeX:\path\setup,whereX:\pathisthefullpathtotherootoftheinstallationmedia.

3.Wheninstalling,theSoundMAXInstalldialogboxappears.Inthedialogbox,pressNext.Whenupgradingorreinstalling,"SetupType"dialogboxappears.Inthedialogbox,select"ReinstallorUpgrade"radiobutton,thenpressNext.

4.ClickontheNextandOKpromptsastheyappear.

5.Rebootthesystemtocompletetheinstallation.

RemovalofAnalogDevicesSoundMAXAudioDriver

1.Fromthetaskbar,clickonStart->Settings->ControlPanel,orforWindowsXP,clickonStart->ControlPanel.

2.Double-clickontheAdd/Removeprogramsicon.

3.Double-clickonSoundMAXInstall.(Adialogboxappears.)

4.SelectRemoveandthenpressNext.

5.Rebootthesystemtofullyuninstallthedrivers.

2.OpenControlPanelusingtheStartMenu->Settings->ControlPanelanddoubleclicktheSystemicon.

a.IfMultimediadeviceis"Intel(r)82801BA/BAMAC'97AudioController"(default),removedeviceandrenamecorrespondinginffileC:\WINDOWS\Inf\wdma_int.infintoC:\WINDOWS\Inf\wdma_int.

b.Select"ScanForTheHardwareChanges".

c.Inthe"AddNewHardwareWizard"dialogbox,select"Installfromthelistofspecificlocations"radiobuttonandclickNext.

d.SelectlocationofthedriverfilesnotedaboveandclickNexttoinstalldriver.IfMultimediaAudioDeviceisolderversion,followdriverupdateproceduredescribedbelowforotheroperatingsystems.

NOTE:DifferentactionsarenecessarydependingonwhetheraMultimediaSoundDeviceispresent.

*IfaMultimediaSoundDeviceispresent(like"SoundMAX

IntegratedDigitalAudio"orageneric(ornative)sounddriver),completethefollowingsteps.a.Double-clickonthedevice.

b.SelectDrivertab.

c.ClickUpdateDriver.

d.SelectSearchforabetterdriver.

e.Whenpromptedforalocation,selectaspecificlocationandentertheonenotedabove.

*IfaMultimediaSoundDeviceisNOTpresent,completethefollowingsteps.

a.Clickrefresh.

NOTE:Amultimediadevicewillbefound.

b.SelectSearchforabetterdriver.

c.Whenpromptedforalocation,selectaspecificlocationandentertheonenotedabove.

TOUNINSTALLWHENUSINGINFFILE:

1.OpenSystemPropertiesusingtheStartMenu->Settings->ControlPanel.

2.SelecttheHardwaretab,andclicktheDeviceManagerbutton.

4.SelectSound,VideoandGameControllers->SoundMAXintegratedDigitalAudiodevice.

5.RightclickandselectuninstallorclicktheUninstalliconwiththeredX.

6.Followinganuninstall,thesystemmustberestartedbeforeanotherinstallcanberun.

TheWindowsPlugandPlaySystemmaintainsabackupcopyofthedriverandwillre-installitautomaticallyuponrebootunlessanotherdriverreplacesit.Ifyouwishthedrivertobecompletelyremovedfromthe

system,completethefollowingsteps:

UsingWindowsExplorer,deletethefollowingfromtheWINDOWSdirectory(WINNTforWindows2000):

a.ForWindows2000/WindowsXP:C:\WINNT\inf\OEMn.inf,orC:\WINDOWS\inf\OEMn.infforWindowsXP,(wherenisaninteger)OnlydeletethosefilesthatarecopiesofSmwdm.inf(theywillbenamedOEMn.inf[wherenisaninteger]).Also,deletethecorresponding.pnffiles.

b.C:\Windows\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys
