Souk Kimono Cristina Mershon

A classic kimono shaped sweater, that features the texture and the colors of fall with the beautiful SOUK yarn. An easy to cus-tomize garment, and very flattering for all shapes. The wide ridge chevrons add a modern touch to a classic shape.

Yarn: Cascade Yarns Souk (55% silk, 45% wool). 100 g/220 yard skeins. Color: 14-Modern, 8 skeins for size Small/Medium (10 skeins for sizes Large and up).

Hook: Size D-3.25 mm. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notes: The sweater is constructed out of two different rectan-gles. The first one would be the waist band, and the second, the body of the sweater, that includes front, bank and sleeves all in one piece.

Feel free to customize this kimono style sweater as you wish. The best and easiest way to do it will be to cre-ate the waist band to the measurements below, and then work on the body piece. The body piece is THE SAME FOR ALL SIZES. As a generic rule, here are waist measurements for specific sizes, make the waist band length to the desired size:

XS (size 0-2), make the waist band length 26 inches

S (size 4-6), make the waist band length 28 inches

M (size 8-10), make the waist band length 30 inches

L (size 12-14), make the waist band length 32 inches

XL (size 16-18), make the waist band length 36 inches

0X (size 16W), make the waist band length 38 inches

1X (size 18W-20W), make the waist band length 40 inches

2X (size 22W-24W), make the waist band length 44 inches

3X (size 26W-28W), make the waist band length 48 inches

WAIST BAND. First we will create the waist band. This instructions are for a size Medium, for other sizes, please see size chart under NOTES. The waist band in worked as a continuos piece of fabric that we close to form a tube, so we have to turn it sideways. The lines of the stitches should look vertical.

BODY. To create the body of the kimono style sweater, we will crochet it all in one piece: front, back and sleeves. To do that, keep in mind that the pattern works as multiples of 14 +4.

Row 25: Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), turn. Working on FRONT LOOPS ONLY, dc in first 6 dc, decrease, dc in next 5 dc, *[dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch-1 space, dc in next 5 dc, decrease, dc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * across to last dc before the 56 ch group, then *[dc, ch 1, dc] in next ch, dc in next 5 ch, decrease, dc in next 5 ch; repeat from * across to last ch. Then repeat from * across to last dc, 2 dc in last dc.

Row 26-46: Repeat row 2 and 3, at the end of row 46 fasten off.

Fold the rectangle in half, so the neck opening sits in the middle. Now it’s time to attach the body to the waist band to finish the kimono sweater. The body section will show all the stitches horizontally in contrast with the waist band that goes vertically. Once folded in half, place it close to the waist band making sure the center opening on the neck is aligned with the center of the waist band tube. Then, attached together (sew or crochet) the front of the body to the waist band to the waist band, then the back. After that, you will attach together (sew or crochet) the bottom of both sleeves to close them. See attach visuals.
