    Ameesha- All Alone...

Ameesha was only 6 hours old when she came to the SOS

ChildrensVillage at Bawana, Delhi. Her SOS mother Kumudini,

was concerned regarding her ability to bring up such a frail child,

who also had a deformity in her foot. She says I was so much

worried about Ameesha that I would suddenly get up in the middle

of the night and start massagingAmeeshasfeet, praying that she

should grow up to stand on her tiny feet. She said with tears in her

eyes Itmade me feel so sad to think that Ameesha might not be

able to dance, run around and play like other children.

With guidance from a doctor at AIIMS, Kumudini learnt the art ofmolding childrensbones and regularly treated Ameesha. Today

Ameesha stands tall, wants to pursue a career in dance and

also plays football as a defender.

The Four Principles of SOS Childrens Village1. The Mother- Each and every child has a caring parent.

    2. Brothers and Sisters- The children have family ties and

they grow up with a sense of responsibility and a spirit

of sharing; family ties therefore grown naturally

    3. A House- A place where the child feels secure, and has a

sense of belonging; each family creates their home

Some facts In India, there are approximately 20 million children who do not receive adequate

parental care support as they do not have either of their parents. This is estimated to riseto 24.35 million by the year 2021.

In 2001 maternal orphan children were estimated at were 5.1

million and by 2021 this would be 5.96 million.

The total number of double orphans was 1.27million, which would be1.49 million by the year 2021.

The problem of needy children in India is only growing. SOS India is reaching out to

22,000 childrenout of this population. With the help and support of sponsors, friends and well wishers, and careful planning SOS Childrens

Villages of India is striving hard to realize many dreams. We want to reach 100,000children by 2016.

The family based approach which provides the most important quotient of life to a child is LOVE,

which is provided in SOS. It truly is a LOVING HOME.
