The Austofix F1 Proximal Femoral Nail is a simple and effective intramedullary device for stable fixation of trochanteric fractures.

The smaller diameter means minimal reaming is required for percutaneous insertion.

With three proximal screw angles and two lengths, the 130o implant is suitable for 90% of pertrochanteric fracture cases. The 120o and 125o implant is available for very narrow or varus femoral necks.

Simplified End Cap and Set Screw system improves surgical technique and operating efficiency.

The first 75% of the Distal Locking Screw thread is shallow to facilitate insertion. The final 25% expands to grip the lateral cortex preventing backout. Static or Dynamic distal screw locking options are available.

Tip and Flute designed to reduce pressure stress at the distal end of the Nail.

The Austofix Femoral Nail F3 is the lateral-entry successor to the Austofix F2 Femoral Nail. Utilising common instrumentation and the same “Recon” or Standard locking design, the F3 is manufactured from titanium and allows nail insertion from the Greater Trochanter.

Hip Screw angles of 120°, 125° and 130° are available with the 125° angle suitable for most clinical situations.

The Austofix Supracondylar Nail S2 Stainless Steel and Titanium aim to provide stable fixation of the most distal of supracondylar fractures, even in the presence of osteoporosis.

Nail Features: The S2 Nail features crossed oblique scews enabling both screws to be within 21mm of the end of the nail, with each screw engaging the posterior condyles where the bone is of better quality.

An anti-backout mechanism has been added with the condylar screw threads having an interference fit in tapped holes in the nail.

The nails are tapered from 13mm at the distal through to 11mm at the proximal end to facilitate insertion and provide maximum strength.

All nails are cannulated and do not require guidewire exchange after reaming.

Additional transverse crosslocking holes are available for retrograde nailing of femoral shaft fractures and antero-posterior holes are provided in the proximal ends of nails for extra fixation options, including locking next to plates.

A special “Fixed Targeting” nail, 300mm long, is available. It enables proximal locking with pre-set jigs for fractures up to 140mm from the distal end of the femur. An intermediate cross-locking screw hole is located 150mm from the distal end, enabling insertion of a proximal screw without xray targeting.

The Austofix Ezy-Aim Electronic Distal Targeting System provides surgeons a simple method of distal targeting without the need for fluoroscopy and concomitant exposure to radiation.

The Austofix Ezy-Aim is simple to use with no x-ray required.

The graphic display simulates the aiming position of the drill guide.

The Austofix Lower Limb Tray for use with the Austofix Lower Limb Nails, revolutionises the traditional instrument set by incorporating the 3 Lower Limb Instrument Sets into ONE Instrument Set. This New Triple Layer Instrument Set reduces inventory cost and space, improves handling and inventory efficiencies.

The Austofix Instrument System offers the surgeon all the necessary options for successful procedures and optimal patient health outcomes. If you need additional equipment, Austofix can manufacture and supply instrumentation designed to your specific needs.


Austofix screws, like our nails have been designed to provide optimal strength and fixation. With over 15 years experience manufacturing screws for IM nails we have refined the qualities required for peak screw performance.

The original Austofix locking screws designed in the early 1990s were partially threaded to give the highest possible bending strength in a small diameter. At the time, other emerging small diameter “unreamed” nailing systems were reporting screw failure rates as high as 40%.

The Austofix nails pioneered the limits of implant performance by encouraging early weight bearing on small, easy to insert nails. As demonstrated by a 150 patient trial, the Austofix designs were overwhelmingly successful with implant breakage negligible.

However, partially threaded screws were found to be more difficult to insert and more prone to backout. Austofix responded to this with a unique and innovative screw design that improves insertion and prevents backout while at the same time maximising bending strength. The screws are fully threaded for ease of insertion with the first 75% of the thread shallow to maintain bending strength. The last 25% of the screw does not pass through the nail and is larger to grip the cortex and prevent backout. Austofix stainless steel screws are still made from the original super-strength alloy guaranteering peace of mind and ensuring early weight bearing.
