ThevariableNDisusefulifyouwanttomaintainaconsistentfstop(IRIS)invariablelightconditions.Itisasimplewaytoadjustexposurewithoutaffectingdepthoffield.

ManualShutterControlPresstheSHUTTERbuttontotogglebetweenmanualandautoshutter.Inmanual,movetheSEL/SETwheeltoadjustshutterspeed andthenpresstheSEL/SETwheeltomaintainthatspeed.
Iftheshutterspeedfallsbelowtwicetheframerate,youwillhavemotionblur.Thefastertheshutterspeedthemorestaccatothemotion.
Don’tadjustshutterunlessyouwantamotioneffect.Keepitattwicetheframerate.
PictureProfiles• PictureProfilesdeterminethelookoftheimage:theyarepresetsthatdetermineimagecontrast,coloranddynamicrange.TheyaresimilartoPictureStylesinaCanonDSLRcamera,butmorecomplex.• ThePictureProfilesmaybeOFF.Youdonothavetochooseone.However,itisrecommended.• PictureProfilesalsodeterminewhetheryouareshootinginHD(Rec.709gamut)orSLOG(HighDynamicRange).• Thereareninetochoosefrom.• ThereisabuttononthecamerathattakesyoudirectlytothePictureProfilechoices.

WhyHighDynamicRange?
• ShootinginHighDynamicrangesolvesonepersistentdifficultyofvideoimagingsinceit’screation:howtomaintainimagedetailintheshadowsandhighlightssimultaneously.• Althoughitcanbemorecomplicatedtoexposecorrectly,HighDynamicRangevideoisusefulforsituationsofhighcontrast.• HighDynamicrangevideouseslogorithmic sampling.Sonycallstheirversionofthis:SLog.

Linearsamplingdoesnotprovideenoughdetailtoreproducetheluminancerangethattheeyecanperceive.
Soitdiscardshighlightinformation.

• Imagenoiseoccurswhentherearenotenoughsamplestoaccuratelyreproducethevariationsoflightandcolor.• Wegetnoiseintheshadowareasoftheimagewhenshootingbecausereproducinglowlightrequiresahighsamplingrate.• Onesolutiontoeliminatenoiseistoeliminatethisshadowareafromoursamplerange.• Pushtheimageinformationupintothelowermids andhighlightsinthehistogramwherethesamplingrateismoresufficientforagreateramountoflight.
SLOGexposure
• Keepyourpictureinformationinthemidandhighlightarea.• Youneverwanttobeinthesituationofhavingtoraiseyourshadowareasinpostproduction- thiscreatesnoise.• Youalwayswanttolowerthemids andhighlightsinpostproductionwhen“normalizing”theshot(makingthecontrastseemcorrectonacomputerdisplay).
