The idea of sexual desire is grappled all along the poem. For example, in the second line
we find “lust in action”, meaning the consummation of the sexual act. But in the
following lines, he describes the previous stages of lust (before the sexual act) as
“perured, murd!rous, blood", full of blame, savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust.”

chances of having experienced each stage of lust, and, b" conse%uence, he is able to
articulate the disgrace he now feels regarding his past.
