There is a need to design a new signage typeface for an Indian technical institute that reflects the traits of both Indian-ness and technical-ness in it.The design mainly focuses on the methodology of assimilation of visual clues of Indian-ness and technical-ness in a typeface. .

Mood board

A case study of existing typefaces being used by Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. It was observed that there were significant variations in the selection of typefaces used in various contexts throughout the Institute- signages, letter heads, posters, the official websites and other paraphernalia like cups and T-shirts. The lack of a unique typeface reflected in the identity of the Institute besides affecting the stylistic coherence of its visual representations across content as well as medium.

Different Typestyles generated after embibing those visual clues on a single glyph A.

User testing of all the Type styles are done with different users. According to the result of user testing, some styles are selected and iterations are done on the same type styles. A user study of 7 participants was virtually held on a single glyph of every type style on selected parameters of evaluation. The visual characteristics of the selected glyph were then imbibed on to other letter forms.

Added Typographic illusions to the fonts and again re-test it for legibility and readibility.

Dark Rush was a 24 hours design and development effort as a part of 2013 edition HackU, University Hack event organised by Yahoo India. The main purpose behind this application isto provide a common entertainment platform to normal and visually challenged kids.

Gyroscopic-enabled virtual realityUses features like vibration, touch, tap, slide and shake to play the game

Concept : Gameplay is in the form of story of a boy lost in the dark forest.

Collect apples and pass the hurdles

Mobile application is developed using Android technology on Eclipse as an IDE. We have used gesture recogniition API to trace the phone movements. Also the audio and the user movementsare coordinated by using tagging feature through code.

Our key innovation is providing the people living in rural areas with a new air cooler that is easy for them to realize in terms of cost and in terms of material as well. We aim at using the cheapest available cooling techniques for making the air cooler by using locally available material and which is reusable as well in a compact package keeping in mind all the factors.

Concept Sketches

The final concept selected was based on the method of “Evaporative Air Cooling” as it is the best and cheapest technology available till date. It is well suited for people living in rural areas because of its low costtechnology and flexibility to experiment with different materials.

The major constituting components of an evaporative air cooler that are currently used are body, padding, water pump, fanand motor. It is easily possible to use theconcept of evaporation while reducing these components and material with effective and powerful cooling.

Less portability,Inefficient Cooling

The final solution is based on Evaporative Cooling technique. Cost of the system is reduced by using bamboo, husk and pottery as manufacturing materials. These arereadily available in rural areas freeof cost. The system is modular and can be assembled locally as well.

Modified the conventional squarestructure to semi cylindrical as it requires less living space, easy to change husk pads and uses itscomplete surface area for cooling

Husk and bambooas manufacturing materials

The water reservoir can be replaced by a pit dug in the mud ground and then mountingthe complete structure over it.

The water reservoir can be made of pottery for more efficient cooling

Lid provided to fill water and change husk pads.Pipe to keep pads wet isplaced at the upper part

To make it more cost effective can remove pump and can have a reservoir on the top of the lid

3D model OF Glyph R

Developed a 3D model of R. The material used to make R is yellow tape, aluminum and copper wire . Aluminum wire is used to provide strength to the model to make it stand. Yellow tape and copper wire is used as an outer layer of the model. Both are in contrast to make model more aesthetically appealing.
