HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING

C Wesley & F Medelssohn

1. Hark! the herald angels sing:

‘Glory to the newborn king’

Peace on earth, and mercy mild

God and sinners reconciled.

Joyful all ye nations rise,

Join the triumph of the skies;

With th’angelic host proclaim,

‘Christ is born in Bethlehem’.

Hark! the herald angels sing:

Glory to the newborn King.

2. Christ, by highest Heav’n adored,

Christ, the everlasting Lord.

Late in time behold him come

Offspring of a virgin’s womb.

Veiled in flesh, the God-head see;

Hail the incarnate Deity!

Pleased as man with men to dwell,

Jesus, our Immanuel

Hark! the herald angels sing:

Glory to the newborn King.

IT CAME UPON THE MIDNIGHT CLEARE Sears

1. It came upon the midnight clear,

That glorious song of old,

From angels bending near the earth

To touch their harps of gold;

Peace on the earth, goodwill to men,

From Heav’n’s all gracious King!

The world in solemn stillness lay

To hear the angels sing.

2. But with the woes of sin and strife

The world hath suffered long;

Beneath the angel-strain have rolled

Two thousand years of wrong.

And man, at war with man, hears not

The love song which they bring:

O hush the noise, ye men of strife,

And hear the angels sing.

3. For lo! the days are hast’ning on,

By prophet bards foretold,

When, with the ever-circling years,

Comes round the age of gold,

When peace shall over all the earth

Its ancient splendours fling,

And the whole world give back the song

Which now the angels sing.

JOY TO THE WORLD I Watts & G F Handel

1. Joy to the world! the Lord has come!Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,

And heav’n and nature sing,

And heav’n and nature sing,

And heav’n, and heav’n, and nature sing.

2. Joy to the world! the Savior reigns:

Let men their songs employ,

While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

3. No more let sin and sorrow grow,

Nor thorns infest the ground;

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found,

Far as the curse is found,

Far as, far as, the curse is found.

4. He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nation prove

The glories of His righteousness,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders of His love,

And wonders, wonders, of His love.

AWAY IN A MANGER M Luther, J T McFarland & W J Kirkpatrick

1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.

The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,

The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

2. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,

But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes;

I love Thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky

And stay by my side until morning is nigh.

3. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever, and love me, I pray.

Bless all the dear children in thy tender care,

And fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there.

MARY’S BOY CHILD J Hairston

1. Long time ago in Bethlehem,So the Holy Bible say,

Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ,Was born on Christmas day,

Hark now hear the angels sing,New King’s born today,

And man will live forevermore,Because of Christmas day.

2. While shepherds watched their flocks by night,They saw a bright, new, shining star,And heard a choir from heaven sing,

The music came from afar.Hark now hear the angels sing,

New King’s born today,And man will live forevermore,

Because of Christmas day.

3. Now, Joseph and his wife, Mary,Come to Bethlehem that night,

They found no place to bear her child,Not a single room was in sight.

4. By and by, they found a little nook,In a stable all forlorn,

And in a manger cold and dark,Mary’s little boy child was born.

Hark, now hear the angels sing,New King’s born today,

And man will live forevermore,Because of Christmas day.

Trumpets sound and angels sing,Listen to what they say,

That man will live forevermore,Because of Christmas day.

ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH H F Hemy, J Chadwick & E S Barnes

1. Angels we have heard on high,

Sweetly singing o’er the plains,

And the mountains in reply

Echoing their joyous strains:

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

2. Shepherds, why this jubilee?

Why these joyous strains prolong?

What the gladsome tidings be

Which inspire your heav’nly song?

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

3. See Him in a manger laid,

Whom the choirs of angels praise;

Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,

While our hearts in love we raise.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

Gloria, in excelsis Deo

1. Dashing through the snowOn a one horse open sleigh

O’er the fields we go

Laughing all the way (ha, ha, ha)

Bells on bobtail ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to ride and sing

A sleighing song tonight.

Oh, Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh, hey!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh.

ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY C F Alexander & H J Gauntlett

1. Once in royal David’s city

Stood a lowly cattle shed,

Where a mother laid her baby

In a manger for his bed:

Mary was that mother mild,

Jesus Christ her little child.

2. He came down to earth from Heaven,

Who is God and Lord of all,

And His shelter was a stable,

And His cradle was a stall;

With the poor, and mean, and lowly,

Lived on earth our Saviour holy.

3. And our eyes at last shall see Him,

Through His own redeeming love;

For that Child so dear and gentle

Is our Lord in Heav’n above;

And He leads His children on

To the place where He is gone.
