ne ighborhood s t ree t , go ing a b i t too fas t in h i s new Jaguar.
He was watch ing for k ids dar t ing out f rom between parked cars
and s lowed down whenhe thought he saw someth ing .
As h i s car passed , no ch i ldren appeared .
Ins tead , a br i ck smashedinto the s ide o f h i s car.
He s lammed on the brakes and backed up the car to the spot where the br ick
had been thrown.
The angry dr iver then jumped out o f the car, grabbed the
neares t k id and pushed h im up aga ins t a parked car shout ing ,
“What was that a l l about and Who are you? Jus t whatthe heck are you do ing?
That ' s a new car and that br i ck you threwis go ing to cos t a lo to f money. Why d id
you do i t?”
The young boy was apo loge t i c . “P lease , mis ter. . .p l ease ,
I 'm sorry but I d idn ' tknow what e l se to do .”
He P leaded .
“I threw the br ick because no one e l se
would s top…”
With tears dr ipp ing down h i s face and
o f f h i s ch in , the youthpo inted to a spot
around a parked car.
“I t ' s my bro ther, he sa id . He ro l l ed o f f the curb
and fe l l out o f h i swhee lcha ir and I can ' t
l i f t h im up .”
Now sobbing , the boy asked the s tunned execut ive ,
“would you he lp me ge t h im backinto h i s whee lcha ir?
He' s hurt and too heavyfor me .”
Moved beyond words , the dr iver t r i ed to
swal low the rap id ly swe l l ing lump in h i s
throat .
He hurr ied ly l i f t ed the handicapped boy back in to
the whee lcha ir, then took out a l inen handkerchie f
and dabbed a t the f re shscrapes and cuts .
A quick look to ld h im everyth ing was go ing
to be okay.
“Thank you and may God b les s you ,”
the grate fu l ch i ld to ld the s tranger.
Too shook up for words , the man s imply watched
the boy push h i swhee lcha ir-bound brother
down the s idewalktoward the ir home.
I t was a long , s l ow walk back to h i s Jaguar.
The damage was very not i ceab le , but the dr iver never bo thered to repa ir the dented s ide door.
He kept the dent there to remind h im of th i s
message . “Don' t gothrough l i f e so fa s tthat someone has tothrow a br i ck to ge t
your a t tent ion!”
