Louisiana that’s as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie. In the haven of Truvy’s beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a little

neighborly gossip for good measure. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings to happy endings, they weather every event in their lives en masse with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy’s salon where they seek the solace and support that carries them through.

f u t u r e B y d e s i g nFuture by Design is a documentary film by Academy Award® nominated film maker William Gazecki, sharing the life and far-reaching vision of Jacque Fresco, a modern day Da Vinci. The film explores Fresco’s world of the future, where scientific method, not politics, rules world operations, and

all human activities and efforts are directed towards achieving dynamic equilibrium between man and nature.

t e n Q u e s t i o n s f o r t h e d a l a i l a m aWhy do the poor often seem happier than the rich? Must a society lose its traditions in order to move into the future? How do you reconcile a commitment to non-violence when faced with violence? These are some of the questions posed to his holiness the Dalai Lama by filmmaker and explorer Rick Ray. Ray examines some of the fundamental questions of our time by weaving together observations from his own journeys throughout India and the Middle East and the wisdom of an extraordinary spiritual leader.

s c h o o l p r o g r a m sThe arts provide limitless opportunities for learning, seeing the world in new ways and experiencing new ideas. Exposure to the arts allows students to appreciate and understand human history and cultures, develop advanced thinking skills, express their own creativity and develop life-long appreciation of the arts. At the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center we aim to make a live performance a part of young people’s educations and lives.

Our Theatre for Young Audiences school matinees (weekday morning performances for school groups) are supplemented by study guides for teachers and complimentary library displays which will help

students delve deeper into the world of the productions. Study guides include background on the plays, suggested activities that tie into the California State Visual and Performing Arts Standards and provide connections between the arts and other core subjects in the curriculum. The library provides additional materials based on themes or concepts explored in the plays. For more information on school bookings call the Box Office at 909.477.2752, ext. 3704
