Platforms

PlatformsThese topics describe changes in platform support for this solution release.

Requirements

PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00 requires PATROL Console Server 7.5.00, and will not work with earlier releases of Console Server.

Support for existing PATROL Central Consoles

Any of the 7.1.x or 7.2.x PATROL Central Operator Consoles will work with PATROL Console Server 7.5.00. However, these consoles do not allow full access to the new features in this release. You must use PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00 to be able to access and use all the new features.

Dropped platform support

PATROL Console Server 7.5.00 does not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (Intel) 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3.

The following components do not support Microsoft Windows NT 4 (Intel) Server Enterprise Edition and Terminal Server:

■ PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00■ PATROL Console Server 7.5.00■ PATROL Console for Microsoft Windows 3.5.60■ RTserver 6.6.00■ PATROL Infrastructure Monitor 7.5.00■ PATROL Configuration Manager 1.6.00

Expanded platform support

The PATROL Central Console expands support for some components to include AIX 5.3 and Sun Solaris 10. See Table 2 on page 6, Table 3 on page 8, and Table 4 on page 10 for a complete list of supported platforms.

You can install the Distribution Server version 7.1.15 and 7.1.20 on the same computer as the PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00 under the following conditions:

■ Install the Distribution Server before the PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition product.

■ Both products must have the same security level.■ Consider the following provisions when assigning the RTSERVERS environment

variable:— The PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition product supports

multiple RTservers within a single RT locator string, but the Distribution Server does not.

— Both products can share the same RTSERVERS string, but the Distribution Server cannot failover from one RTserver to another in the case of an RTserver failure.

If you want both products installed on a single computer and have them use one RTserver, then both applications can share the same RTSERVERS environment setting.

To support multiple RTservers for PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition, but only one for the Distribution Server, use one of the following techniques:

■ Configure the PATROL Central RTserver selection icon in the PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00 configuration task pad.

■ Ensure that the first string contains RTServer that the Distribution Server will use.

For example, tcp:localhost:2059,tcp:111.111.11.111:2059

Coexistence of the Distribution Server and the PATROL Central Operator – Web Edition product

Coexistence of the Distribution Server and the PATROL Central Operator – Web Edition product

Installing the Distribution Server version 7.1.20 on the same computer as the PATROL Central Operator – Web Edition causes file incompatibilities. Do not install these two products on the same computer.

Installing and uninstalling multiple products or components on the same computer

If you have installed any of the products or components identified below on a single computer, then BMC Software recommends that you upgrade to newer versions of the product or component versus uninstalling the product or component.

If you are going to install any of the products or components identified below on the same computer, install the PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.5.00 product and the PATROL Console Server 7.5.00 component last. If you choose to uninstall any of these products or components, which you had installed on a single computer, use the following process:

1 Back up the existing product directories for the products you want to continue using.

For more information about backing up and restoring product directories, see the relevant product documentation.

2 Uninstall all of the products and components on that computer.

3 Reinstall the products and components that you want to continue using.

4 Restore the product directories backed up in step 1.
