WILDCATS OVER POWER SOLON Solon’s 2020 playoff run was cut short at the hands of the St. Ignatius Wild-cats last Friday night at The George Finnie Stadium at Baldwin Wallace University. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, but Solon began to slow the game down in the second quarter. The Com-ets put together a long drive and scored when Pat McQuaide found Caesar Salerno from five yards out for a touchdown catch with 4:28 to go in the first half. Evan Funderburg’s extra point was successful and the Comets were within 14 at the half. Solon’s defense put up a great effort when the second half started but the St. Ignatius rushing attack extend-ed their lead. Solon answered early in the fourth quarter on a one yard Khalil Eichelberger rush and Justin Covey extra point, but St. Ignatius squashed any hope Solon had of coming back as they found the end zone twice. For Solon, Salerno lead the receiving corps with 6 catches for 43 yards and Najee Story led the defense with 14 tackles. Running Back Khalil Eichelberger post-ed his first 100 yard game of the sea-son and Quarterback Pat McQuaide threw for 142 yards, a season high. St. Ignatius advances in the playoffs and will visit Euclid on Friday night.

2020 SCHEDULE Per the regulations issued by the OHSAA in August, teams that are elimi-nated from the playoffs are able to continue to schedule games. Solon will attempt to secure opponents for the remaining weeks of the regular season. Stay tuned for more information.

In his eighteenth year as head football coach at Solon High School, Jim McQuaide has posted a stellar record of 141-57. McQuaide began his career as an assistant coach at Warren John F. Kennedy High School, Mayfield High School, and St. Edward High School. His head coaching career began in 1989 in Louisville, Ohio at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. The 1990 season started Coach McQuaide’s tenure at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. McQuaide traveled to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999 to become the head coach of the LaSalle Lancers through the 2002 season. In 2003, Jim McQuaide was named head football coach at Solon High School. To date, McQuaide has led the Comets to 8 league titles and 13 playoff appearances. Under McQuaide, the Comets have protected their home turf by accomplishing a 77-17 record at Stewart Field. McQuaide has been named Western Reserve Conference Coach of the Year three times. He was named to the staff of the 2004 Ohio Big 33 All-Star squad and has received the Cleveland Browns Coach of the Week honors four times throughout his tenure at Solon. He was featured in Cleveland Magazine in 1994 as one of Northeast Ohio’s Top Coaches. His teams have been featured as Team of the Week many times throughout his career. The Ohio High School Athletic Association honored Coach McQuaide in 2009 with their Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award. 2009, 2010, and 2011 saw McQuaide as NOC Valley Division Coach of the Year. In September of 2012, Coach McQuaide was inducted into the Warren, Ohio Sports Hall of Fame. Also in 2012, he was selected for induc-tion into the John F. Kennedy High School Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2015, Jim was named Greater Cleveland Confer-ence Coach of the Year and Cuyahoga County Coaches Association Coach of the Year, which is an honor he was also given in 2005.
