The UK Government has announced the introduction of feed-in tariffs (FITs) - the Clean Energy

Cashback scheme as from 1st April 2010. The scheme incentivises small scale, low carbon electricity generation by household-

ers, communities and businesses - the generators - and works alongside the Renewables Obligation (RO) and the Renewable

Heat Incentive (RHI) for the generation of heat from renewable sources, which is applicable as from April 2011. The scheme is

expected to trigger a small scale electricity revolution, supporting over 750,000 small scale low carbon electricity installations by

2020 and will have saved 7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Introduction of an electricity Feed-in Tariff in the UK

With this in mind Britmet Tilefrom Ltd Have introduced

their new integral Solar Roof tile, utilising the panel

system and eave to ridge systems, backed By the BBA

    as low as 5

Britmet Tileform Ltd can offer a full roofing solution and

site survey incorporating the topography of the site

    involved and best solution practice.

The Government has set the Tariffs through consideration of technology costs and electricity generation expectations at different

scales to deliver an approximate rate of return of 5 - 8%, or approximately 7 10% if indexing is taken into account, for well sited

installations. Accordingly, the tariffs that are available for new installations will degress each year (only for new installations from

that point forward) to reflect predicted technology cost reductions. However, any individual installation, once starting to receive a

tariff at a certain level, will continue to receive the same generation tariff level throughout its entire support period of 25 years un-

der the FIT scheme for Solar PV (and 20 years for anaerobic digestion, hydro and wind generators). The scheme will be reas-

sessed and subject to review in the future.

The FIT tariff details for Solar PV are:

By way of illustration, a 4kW installation of SolarEmpower polycrystalline panels would produce Clean Energy Cashback schemerevenues and savings of around 1,520 p.a.(assuming that half of the electricity generated is consumed onsite and half exported). This represents a return of over 8% on the typical cost of a SolarEmpower PV installation, without even considering the addit ionalbenefit of the rates being linked to the RPI over the term of the 25 year contract and the fact that these revenues are free of in-come tax as regards domestic properties generating electricity mainly for their own use.

The calculations substantiate the design of support members and fixings for BritmetTileform Ltd profiles in respect of their capacity to carry PV solar panels.

Wind loading on the mounted PV panels is calculated on accordance with BRE digest489 wind loads on roof based photovoltaic-systems Calculations are provided for thecontinuous Z support sections to each edge and also the shear strength of the sheetingnails subject to uplift. Downwards loads along the bottom edge fixings are transferreddirectly into the timber battens below.
