How It WorksSenergy’s Solar Tracker starts out

the day facing west - - - from theevening before.  As the sun rises in theeast, it heats the unshaded west-sidecanister on the Tracker, forcing liquidR22 HCFC refrigerant into the shadedeast-side canister.  As liquid movesthrough the sealed copper tube to theeast-side canister, the balance changes,rotating the Tracker to face the east.

Heating of the Tracker’s liquid iscontrolled by aluminum shadow platespositioned as "wings" on the outsideedges of the tracker.  When one canisteris exposed to the sun more than theother, vapor pressure increases. Thisforces liquid to the cooler, shaded sideof the Tracker.  The shifting weight ofthe liquid causes the rack to rotate untilthe canisters are equally shaded.  Thiskeeps the Tracker focused on the sun,as it continually keeps the weight withinthe canisters as equal as possible.

As the sun moves across the sky,the rack follows (at approximately 15degrees per hour), always seekingequilibrium as liquid moves from oneside of the Tracker to the other to keepit facing the direct rays of the sun.
